I don't care about keeping humans in trivial employment. But the '4th Industrial Revolution' and transformation needs to be seen in the context of UBI and control of 'human cattle'.
Mass unemployment will inevitably lead to demands for a UBI, especially with runaway inflation and the cost of living. UBI means complete dependency upon the State and control of behaviour. The UK benefits system calls them 'sanctions' - when a recipient doesn't do something they're asked to do, their welfare payment is docked. These 'sanctions' will expand to include prohibitions on what someone can buy or say.

It's tempting to think that public employees are often useless, overpaid and ideologically 'woke', therefore they deserve to be held to account. But the truth is that Transhumanist Musk is doing this because he knows AI can replace much of the federal work being previously done by humans. Just like how Amazon replaced 100,000 jobs with 750,000 robots.
Trump/Elon look like they're 'draining the swamp', but they're actually bulldozing it to make way for an LLM data centre and robotics factory.

☝🏻This alone destroys the argument of the 'AI will liberate us' crowd. It's not that AI didn't have the potential to liberate man from mundane work and allow him to dwell in the arts; it's that the reality of 'progress' never lives up to the ideal.
Even if isolated individuals or small 'digital tribes' find ways to use an impartial AI to take care of the mundane so that they're freer to focus on art and community, and institute strictures which prevent its misuse, that doesn't change how AI is being used by society-at-large. Butlerians like myself are concerned with the species-wide impact of AI, so its proper use by a minority is of little consolation.

Dog ate my phone, so treated myself to a 'new' one. This is a Sony Ericsson W995 from 2009 - state of the art pocket technology for the time. A 'Walkman' phone. Some of you might remember it.
It's small, has a bright torch, decent battery life, is a great music player, has a pretty good camera, does not accept new apps, and has a pretty cool quasi-retro look. Mobile phones never needed to 'progress' beyond this.
