The Washington Institute for Near East Policy compiled a genealogical tree of Ahmed Al-Sharaa (Abu Muhammad al-Julani):
🟡 Among his ancestors were merchants and landowners, many of whom took part in the uprising against the French Mandate authorities in the first half of the 20th century;
🟡 cousin Farouk al-Sharaa (born 1938) is a high-ranking official under Hafez and Bashar al-Assad, serving as foreign minister (1984-2006) and then vice president (2006-2014);
🟡 Father Hussein al-Sharaa (born 1944) - Arab nationalist and renowned economist;
🟡 brother Hazem al-Sharaa (born 1975) - General Manager and Deputy CEO of Al Hayat - Pesi Group ; by decision of the new president, he is acting director of the Syrian Investment Agency;
🟡 brother Maher al-Sharaa (b. 1974) — a doctor, until 2023 he worked as a gynecologist in Voronezh, held the position of Minister of Health in the Syrian transitional government, and has now been appointed head of the General Secretariat (presidential administration).

With Mike Robinson and Patrick Henningson at the UKC on location event. It was great to meet people in person and have lots of interesting conversations.
Unfortunately I am rubbish at remembering to get lots of photos. Am back home in Türkiye again and look forward to watching the livestream later because I didn't take notes and there was a lot to take in. Definitely recommend people try to attend live events if they can.
Building a community of in the flesh friends and colleagues strengthens bonds and creates new possibilities.

As predictable as this is, it’s still infuriating to see it. For decades, Bashar al-Assad protected minority religious communities in Syria, including the country’s large Christian population. No one in the United States was allowed to notice this, and anyone who did was immediately denounced by neocons as a dangerous extremist. Bari Weiss declared Tulsi Gabbard “monstrous” and an “Assad toady” for noticing. But it was true. Assad protected the Christians. The weaker Assad was, the more Christians died. During the years that neocons in the west backed the war against Assad, the percentage of Christians in Syria went from ten percent to two percent. Now that Assad has been driven from power, many of the remaining Syrian Christians are being slaughtered and their holy places desecrated. Bari Weiss and John Bolton haven’t said a word about it. But no one who’s paying attention can be surprised it’s happening. It really is a major issue. I think the financial system is being held together with glue and the mother of all crashes is coming. I've thought for a long time that they will pull the plug when CBDCs are ready
I think if everyone knew that pension companies were being bailed out, there would be panic. This is the Liz Truss LDI moment on steroids, and it's ongoing

What’s happening:
The BoE is bailing out pension funds and insurance companies at record speed via ST-OMO (Short-Term Open Market Operations).
These institutions are desperate for liquidity—likely due to exposure to long-dated gilts that have collapsed in value as interest rates rose.
This is 2022’s LDI crisis 2.0, but now it’s much bigger and fully opaque.
What this means:
UK pensions are being propped up with secret injections, not fixed.
The public isn’t being told who’s insolvent, because if they were, there would be panic.
The entire UK financial system is being duct-taped together through emergency central bank support.
This is exactly what @SteveBakerFRSA and the Austrian economists warned about:
Fiat systems break silently, until they collapse loudly.
This isn’t a warning anymore.
