Saw this film "Warfare" with Morgan over the weekend.
I've been trying to digest and process what to say about it. For personal reasons and being a veteran, I can't say that I "enjoyed" it in the traditional sense of being entertained. It was more of an experience in revisiting an old life filled with laughs, anxiety and nightmares.
I don't think war movies should be made to be "entertaining" that you leave the theatre with feelings of joy, thrills or excitement. It's perhaps in contention for THE most serious subject matter and should be created respectfully in showcasing, as best you can with film, how cruel and difficult the experience can be. It's challenging for veterans to accurately relay what being in a situation of existential dread and horror is like, so I'm very grateful to the teams that re-create snapshots in time such as this that are both respectful and accurate.
No movie, video game or media can prepare someone for the real thing or give a truly comprehensive understanding - but as far as movies go - this one did as well as you can in displaying what a pretty below average Tuesday might look like for a soldier on operations in 2006.
It is very well made and realistic.
