In Spain for a couple of weeks. Power gone everywhere.
At a petrol station near a beach town, pumps not working, lots of people stranded as it's a semi-holiday and many had travelled. Hardly anyone has cash. I took a small pile out of an ATM in Dublin just in case thankfully. Can't sent video, not sure why I have signal as no one else has any.
Shop only taking cash, all others have closed.
If ever you needed a lesson to keep your petrol half full and cash in your pocket, here you are. I'm sure things will be back on soon, but you never know.
I was in the shop and buying canned fish and as much water as possible. People looked at me for a minute thinking I was nuts but then two or three left the queue and started picking up more things.
For electricity to go out in two whole countries is strange. Government reminding people they need them? Exercise for something in future? Solar farms all over the South of Spain, so this is a bit strange if it lasts more than a day. I was in New York in 2003 I think it was, when the whole eastern seaboard went down, maybe ten states. So this has happened before.
Another example of why being out of the cities is best, with your own resources. There's a small bit of panic around but ok for now. No details from media. Very few people have phone signal. The fact I have some from an Irish network is very interesting. Is it the electricity or did they just shut everything off and forget to do the foreign networks? I'm sure thats not it but it's interesting nonetheless, as everything is supposed to be out.
