Did you know that the Real ID Act allows the DHS secretary to require I disclose my membership with pro-gun and anti-abortion groups before I can renew my driver’s license?
That’s right. Section 202 of the Real ID Act (which was written by the sponsor of the Patriot Act), gives unfettered discretion to the Secretary of Homeland Security to require ANYTHING as a condition for you to get a driver’s license.

Imagine if Kamala Harris won. She surely would have reappointed Mayorkas. He surely would have required you disclose your political affiliations, the church you attend, your biometric data, or any other thing you’d prefer to keep private.
He also would surely require the use of RFID which would give government agents with readers immediate access to all of that data about you, with or without a warrant.
Real ID does not keep us safe. It tramples on the 10th Amendment, and is a threat to the First and Fourth Amendments as it can chill speech, and expand mass surveillance.
Repeal Real ID!!
I also urge you NOT to comply with Real ID. If you are able to get a standard driver’s license, do so. And get a passport (or passport card), as either of those will allow you to fly and enter restricted federal buildings.

The final bill hasn’t been written yet. A framework passed that enables tax cuts without spending cuts. Some colleagues voted for this framework based on verbal promises from leadership that the final bill will include big spending cuts. If the final bill is good, I’ll vote yes.
