🌟 #Victory80: During the battle of Berlin on April 30, 1945, Red Army soldier Nikolay Masalov rescued a German little girl — by risking his life, Masalov took the kid to safety from the zone that was under heavy Nazi fire.
This brave and honourable deed by Nikolay Masalov was immortalised in the worldwide famous 'Liberator Soldier' monument in Berlin. It was unveiled back in 1949 in Treptower Park, where over 7,000 Red Army soldiers, who perished in the Battle of Berlin, are entombed. The centrepiece of that famous memorial complex, the figure of a Soviet soldier holding a German girl, has become a symbol of the noble mission of the Red Army, which saved Europe from the 'Nazi plague', and of the Great Victory of the Soviet people over Nazi Germany.
***
In the morning of April 30, 1945, before the Red Army attack on a Nazi defence outpost, the Tempelhof Airport, Nikolay Masalov heard a child crying. Marshall Vassily Chuikov recalled in his memoirs: “The kid’s voice sounded as if it came from under the ground, calling out again and again a word that is understandable to everyone, ‘Mutter, Mutter’.”
Nikolay Masalov hurried to rescue the kid. Risking his life, the soldier crawled across a bridge over the Landwehr Canal, which was under enemy fire, and saved a three-year-old girl. He found her near the body of her mother, who had been killed by the Nazis during the shelling.
Masalov took the girl and moved back to the Soviet positions, which the enemy kept under heavy machine-gun fire. In return, the Soviet forces had to opened artillery fire on the Nazi positions.
“Thousands of artillery guns and mortars opened fire at the enemy. Thousands of shells and mines covered the return of the
Soviet soldier rescuing a three-year-old German girl from the death zone,” — this is how Marshall Chuikov wrote later in his memoirs about Masalov’s heroic feat.
People all around the world knew about Nikolay Masalov, a humble Soviet soldier and a legendary #WWII veteran. But he never considered his heroism as something extraordinary. He did not like speaking about it, and when he did, he did not talk much:
💬 “I am a Russian soldier. Anyone would do the same in my place.”
Synopsis: The documentary pays tribute to those who defended the USSR against fascist invaders during World War II.
The film tells the stories of some of the last surviving veterans of the Great Patriotic War, ordinary Soviet citizens, who became heroes in the fight against Nazism.
Among them:
🏅 103-year-old Valentina Minaeva, a surgical nurse who served in three wars and saved hundreds of lives;
🏅 100-year-old Vitaly Kolesov, an artillery commander who survived the horrors of the war, including the Battle of Stalingrad;
🏅 98-year-old Nikolay Teplotanskikh, a volunteer tank driver who repeatedly rescued wounded comrades and miraculously survived himself.
With each passing year, the number of veterans diminishes, with many now over 100 years old. Yet, their memories of wartime trials remain vivid.
Witness the poignant recollections of those who lived through the horrors of war.
"Soviet Union & South Africa: Allies in World War II"
✍️ Article by Roman Ambarov, Russia's Ambassador to South Africa
💬 May 9th 2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945, the most important and dramatic part of #WWII, a triumph that came at an immense human cost and shaped the course of modern history.
These days, we are celebrating the decisive contribution of the Soviet Union to the Victory over Hitler’s Germany and the liberation of Europe from Nazism. #LestWeForget that nearly 90% of all Nazi military casualties occurred on the Eastern Front, and it was the Red Army that stormed and single-handedly captured Berlin.
Nearly 27 million lives were lost in the Soviet Union alone – one in every seven citizens. <...> Practically everyone has some kind of personal connection to that era of righteous struggle and sacrifice. <...>
My own grandfather... was one of the principal designers of the T-34, a legendary Soviet-made battle tank.
We will always remember that during World War II South Africa was our ally and an important member of the Anti-Hitler Coalition.
South African waters were of strategic importance during the period when the supply route through the Dardanelles was closed. Cape Town, for example, played a crucial role in the Lend-Lease freight. Around 3,000 South African seamen served in the Royal Navy... carrying valuable supplies to our northern ports of Murmansk and Arkhangelsk to relieve the besieged Leningrad.
<...> A South African aircrew found themselves in the liberated Crimea to witness the historic Yalta Conference of Joseph Stalin, Franklin Roosevelt, and Winston Churchill. <...>

Moscow and Pretoria re-established diplomatic relations on 21 February 1942, just weeks after Hitler had failed to capture Russia’s capital city.
Between 1942 and 1945, South African charities such as the Medial Aid for Russia and the Friends of the Soviet Union, raised about £1m (approximately R 1.2b today) to purchase and donate to the Soviet Red Cross much needed medications, surgical equipment, food, clothes, footwear, and other essential goods. <...>
In our Embassy in Pretoria, we keep a stack of copies of declassified diplomatic correspondence dating those years. Looking through these faded typewritten pages gives me a peculiar moving feeling. Among the reports of Soviet Consul General’s encounters with top officials of the Union of South Africa like Prime Minister J.C.Smuts and Secretary of External Affairs D.D.Forsyth, there are numerous records regarding public diplomacy and fundraising events organized by pro-Soviet groups all around South Africa.
In July 1944, the University of the Witwatersrand hosted the two-day African-Soviet friendship congress. In November 1944 the Friends of the Soviet Union launched the Soviet Pavilion. Up to 250,000 people visited it. <...>
Dmitri Shostakovich’s Seventh “Leningrad” Symphony, a work that became a musical manifesto of resistance to Nazism, was premiered on 9 July 1944 in Joburg and, two month later, in Cape Town.
***
Today, it is frustrating to see that some people begin to perceive Nazism as some sort of abstract evil of the past. In fact, the ideology of Nazism has always been rooted in particular concepts of racial superiority and European colonialism, things that South Africans may understand better than anyone else.
Given this vile nature of Nazism, its ultimate defeat in 1945 laid the foundations of the world as we used to know it. The UN Charter, the era of decolonization and independence in Africa and Asia, the fall of apartheid, and the rise of the Global South – none of these, indeed, would be possible without our Victory in the Great Patriotic War 80 years ago.
🇷🇺🇧🇾 The Presidents of Russia and Belarus took part in the plenary meeting of the Great Heritage, Common Future International Forum of the Union State(April 29, 2025)
💬 Vladimir Putin: Esteemed Alexander Grigoryevich, friends.
I would like to greet you on this heroic and sacredland. This land is sacred for all the people of Russia, and for all the people of the former Soviet Union, too. It is here that the Great Heritage, Common Future International Forum is taking place.
Organised by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, the event brings together speakers of parliaments, chairs of parliamentary committees, civil activists, researchers and experts from about 20 countries. It is important that foreign participants come from former Soviet republics, as we have just heard, and also from Southeast Asia, Europe and Latin America.
It is symbolic that this forum is taking place in the Hero City where the fate of the entire world was once decided. <...> The fortitude and courage shown by the Red Army soldiers, the unity of the entire multiethnic nation became a formidable force. The enemy was halted and routed on the banks of the Volga. A decisive blow was dealt to the Nazi war machine, turning the tide of the war and clearing the path to the West, to Berlin, to the Great Victory, the 80th anniversary of which we will be celebrating very soon, on May 9.
🌟 #VictoryDay is one of the most significant holidays, held sacred in Russia as well as in most former Soviet republics. During the war, our nations went through the most bitter trials together, but they defended their independence and future. The defeat of Nazism is our shared legacy.
We are expecting the leaders of a number of states at the celebrations in Moscow. We highly appreciated many countries’ decisions to send military crews to march shoulder to shoulder with Russian soldiers at the Victory Parade on Red Square. <...>
Many participants of the current forum actively collaborate with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation. We are grateful to all who contribute to the legislative support of constructive partnerships among CSTO Member States. <...>
☝️ 2025 was declared the Year of Peace and Unity in the Fight Against Nazism in the #CIS. Many countries are holding memorial, social, cultural and educational events, such as the Immortal Regiment march, which has become nationwide. This is our tribute to the memory of our servicemen who perished during the war and an expression of our deep gratitude to our veterans, the generation of winners
We are all aware of the unfathomable price our peoples paid for victory over Nazism, and immense sacrifices we made. There is no doubt that people in Russia, Belarus and other countries will never forget the lessons of that war.
The main of them is obvious: we must do everything in our power to fight against the revival of Nazism and the proliferation of destructive ideologies, namely, Russophobia, antisemitism, national and religious intolerance, as well as the so-called exceptionalism, which camouflage claims to global domination and attempts at pressure or interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states.
It is also important to work together to form a more just multipolar world order based on respect for the interests of each other and the right of every country to its own development pattern.
❗️ We firmly believe that the global community should join forces to create a new architecture of equal and indivisible security, which would safely protect all states without detriment to the interests of others. This is especially important for Eurasia. Our common continent must become a territory of peace and stability and an example of sustainable economic, social and humanitarian development.
This new architecture could be based on the existing multilateral cooperation formats, such as the Union State, the #CSTO, the CIS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, #BRICS, #ASEAN and other respected and influential organisations.
🇷🇺 On May 9, 2025, a solemn Victory Day reception was held at the Russian Embassy in Canada to mark the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.
🇷🇺 Diplomats from over 50 countries attended the event, including ambassadors from BRICS nations.
💬 In his remarks, Ambassador Oleg Stepanov highlighted the symbolic significance of the date:
Victory Day is the unifying foundation of our society. And equally it serves and must continue to serve the global community. For through the Great Victory, the Organization of the United Nations and its Charter were created, having formed the undisputed basis for the modern world order and establishing a system of international law and relations.
❗️ He added that Russia remains true to its historic duty:
Russia, as the heir to the glorious deeds of the Red Army, will continue to stand guard over truth and justice, protect history from distortion. Our duty is to prevent Nazism and militarism from being revived, and we will continue to fulfill this task.
🎼 Guests enjoyed a brief concert and a buffet of traditional Russian dishes.
✍️ Chair of the Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs, former State Secretary, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation (in 2005-2019) Grigory Karasin(May 17, 2025)
💬 Grigory Karasin: It is clear that Istanbul marked a crucial turning point.
Despite the camouflage sheen of certain Kiev negotiators and the traditionally cunning faces of the European masterminds constantly surrounding Zelensky, thetalks in Türkiye should be regarded as a serious milestone on the path towards resolving the crisis in Ukraine.
The first face-to-face meeting between the two delegations after the three years of fierce military confrontation — despite all the Western propaganda tricks — has nonetheless opened the door to contacts and solutions on specific, sensitive issues.
👉 Credit should be given to the calm and confident manner in which the Russian delegation conducted the dialogue.
The POWs exchange and the agreement to continue negotiations are significant outcomes of a difficult and complex process.
Russia’s objectives remain unchanged and were clearly stated by the President in June 2024. There is a growing sense that these goals are now being perceived with greater clarity, both by Kiev and its handlers.
❗️ The important thing is that the process has begun.
⚡️ Statement by the Head of Delegation of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky on the outcomes of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul (May 16, 2025)
💬 Dear colleagues,
The direct negotiations with the Ukrainian side, held on the initiative of the President of Russia, have just concluded.
In general, we are satisfied with the outcome and are ready to continue contacts.
This is what we agreed on:
1. In the coming days there will be a large-scale exchange of prisoners of war — 1,000 for 1,000.
2. The Ukrainian side has requested direct talks between the heads of state. We have taken notice of this request.
3. We agreed that each side would present its vision of a possible future ceasefire. This will be outlined in detail.
Once this vision has been presented, we believe it would be appropriate, as also agreed, to continue our negotiations.
✉️ President of the Republic of Uganda Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, sent a congratulatory message to President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War(May 8, 2025)

On behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Uganda, and on my own behalf, I extend to you, and through you to the People of the Russian Federation, my warm congratulations on the occasion of the 80th Anniversary of the historic defeat of Nazi Germany in the Second World War.
This milestone commemorates the triumph of courage and sacrifice over tyranny and oppression and serves as a solemn reminder of the enduring value of peace, unity, and international solidarity. The immense contribution of the Russian people to this victory will forever remain a significant chapter in the annals of global history.
Uganda and Russia have enjoyed longstanding relations rooted in friendship and mutual respect since the 1960s. As you mark this important Anniversary, I take this opportunity to reaffirm Uganda’s commitment to further strengthening our bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest for the benefit of our two nations and peoples.
Please accept, Your Excellency, my best wishes for your continued good health and for the peace and prosperity of the Russian Federation.
Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration.
Yoweri Kaguta Museveni President of the Republic of Uganda
Russian delegation takes part in the Russian-Ukrainian talks, convened on the initiative of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin, with the participation of the Turkish Side (at the initial stage)
Forum participants will discuss: 🔹challenges and opportunities of the platform economy; 🔹the ways new technologies affect the state of crime; 🔹digital justice tools; 🔹international cooperation in the field of human rights.
"Respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, equality of State sovereignty, fulfilment in good faith of all commitments undertaken and non-interference in internal affairs — all those fundamental principles and norms of international law adopted by the world community decades ago should continue to be imperative conditions for equal cooperation and balanced development of all humankind,"
noted Konstantin Chuychenko, Minister of Justice of the Russian Federation
📌More than 120 events are planned, organized into 10 thematic tracks. The programme includes sessions, presentations, lectures, business breakfasts, and meetings, which will become a platform for sharing experience and discussing topical legal issues.
"The SPILF 2025 business programme reflects the depth and scope of the legal challenges facing modern society. We have endeavoured to structure the agenda in such a way that it covers both fundamental issues of legal theory and practice and applied aspects related to digital technologies, international relations, culture and the transformation of the legal profession,"
said Anton Kobyakov, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation.
⚡️ Certain Telegram channels are deliberately circulating false information about the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s alleged support for the 30-day ceasefire proposed by Ukraine, Europe and the United States.
This fake news has been posted online by the Ukrainian propaganda resource Ukrinform, which has openly and unashamedly distorted the statement made by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lin Jian on China’s stance on the Ukrainian crisis during the May 12 briefing.
💬 Replying to a question by a Ukrainian journalist, Lin Jian said the following (this is a direct quote from the Chinese Foreign Ministry’s transcript):
As I said just now about China’s position on the Ukraine crisis, we support all efforts for peace, and hope that parties will continue working towards a fair and durable peace deal that is binding and accepted by all parties concerned through dialogue and negotiation, and ultimately achieve a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis.
China remains of the view that dialogue and negotiation is the only viable way out of the crisis. China will continue to, in light of the will of the parties to the conflict, work with the international community to play a constructive role in ultimately solving the crisis and achieving lasting peace.
This comment by the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson says nothing about the 30-day ceasefire or China’s support for that initiative.
China’s position, as put forth by the porte-parole is fully in line with the statement made by President Vladimir Putin on May 11, in which he pointed out the following:
We are set on serious negotiations with Ukraine. Their aim is to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and to achieve a long-term lasting peace for a historical perspective.
Ukrainian disinformers are using the same old MO (modus operandi), lying through their teeth and distorting facts to make their audiences believe in a fictional reality rooted in false notions and straight out fabrications.
This is obviously being done within the framework of information and psychological operations under the guidance of their Western handlers. It is not surprising that Anglo-Saxon and European news agencies and media readily take up these fake stories without bothering to check facts, and use them as the sources they can cite, therefore creating a vicious circle of lies.
❗️ We call upon all participants of the media environment and users to take a more responsible attitude towards information, trusting only official resources and cross-checking information with the original source.
As for this fake news, we can only say that yet another attempt to present defeat as victory has fallen through.
🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s address to participants of a grand ceremony for opening the 2nd BRICS Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum(May 15, 2025)
💬 Ladies and gentlemen,
Colleagues,
Friends,
Welcome to the grand opening ceremony marking the beginning of the 2nd BRICS Women’s Entrepreneurship Forum.
Without a doubt, today’s event represents a milestone for the BRICS countries’ business communities and our entire association, which increasingly plays a big part in global affairs.
We view BRICS as a focal point for coordinating interests of the World Majority’s leading countries, a key pillar of a multipolar world, and an important mechanism for advancing genuinely multilateral cooperation. I would like to emphasise that our joint work within the association is based on the principles of equality, mutual respect, and balance of interests of all participants.
The potential of BRICS has benefitted greatly from expansion. The BRICS countries represent nearly half of the world’s population, and their aggregate GDP makes up about 40 percent of global GDP in terms of purchasing power parity, more than that of the G7.
Considering this, it stands to reason that BRICS continues to attract the Global South and Global East countries that seek mutually beneficial partnerships and joint development.
Expanding comprehensive cooperation within the BRICS format is among our unconditional foreign policy priorities. We place special emphasis on supporting new ideas and pro-active approaches in the economy, ensuring financial stability, advancing digitalisation, and enhancing transport connectivity.
Women’s entrepreneurship is a key factor in achieving progress in these and other areas. Your determination, innovation-based approaches, and leadership create new prospects and open new horizons for expanding our respective economies and social spheres.
Today’s forum provides an excellent opportunity to exchange best practices, to establish and strengthen business contacts, and to coordinate specific practical cooperation projects.
The initiatives to be developed during the forum will be taken into account in preparations for the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7 and contribute to the collective efforts of our association.
I wish you engaging interactions, substantive discussions, and all the best. I am confident that, acting together, we can make our BRICS partnership even more effective.

🇷🇺🇲🇾 On May 14, President of Russia Vladimir Putin and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, who is on an official visit to Moscow, held talks in the Kremlin.
The Leaders had an in-depth discussion of key issues of bilateral political, trade and economic cooperation, outlined measures to further develop Russian-Malaysian interaction and exchanged views on current international and regional issues.
💬 President Putin's greetings at the start of the discussion: Mr Prime Minister, friends, Mr Prime Minister, friends,
I am delighted to welcome you to Moscow.
Malaysia is a long-time, trusted and important partner for Russia in the world and in Southeast Asia.
I know that Malaysia assumed the rotating ASEAN chairship on January 1, 2025. We hope that with your assistance our relations with that respected and reliable association will develop as steadily as relations between our countries, which are based on friendship and partnership.
📈 We maintain steady trade and economic ties. However, it is regrettable that our trade, which can overall be described as good, decreased last year. Our intergovernmental commission will address this issue, seeking to understand the reasons behind this decline and doing everything in its power to move our relations onto a positive development trajectory.
We have good relations in virtually all spheres. I believe that we have maintained diplomatic relations since 1967. We sincerely hope that your visit will be fruitful as well.
We remember and are grateful to you for attending the Eastern Economic Forum. I know that from Moscow you will travel to Kazan, where you will attend the Russia – Islamic World Forum, which we consider to be very important. I have no doubt that your visit will not only be substantive but will also be held at a high level and will promote the further development of relations between our countries.
🤝 We are developing our cultural relationship. One of its elements, tourism, has both economic and cultural aspects. Malaysia is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for Russian tourists. We are grateful to you for working hard to ensure the comfort and safety of our citizens in Malaysia.
We are delighted to host your visit. Mr Prime Minister, welcome to Russia.
🎙 Briefing by Russia's Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova(Moscow, May 6, 2025)
🔹 The decisive role of the Soviet Union and the Red Army in defeating Nazi Germany and lessons drawn from history 🔹 Celebrating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War in Russia and around the world 🔹 Ukraine crisis 🔹 Kiev regime crimes 🔹 On Stephane Dujarric’s comments 🔹 On Argentina’s authorities declassification of documents regarding Nazi presence in the country 🔹 NATO-Georgia command and staff exercise 🔹 Russia's EMERCOM assistance to friendly Iran in fighting the Shahid Rajaee Port fire
We will foreverremember the price we paid for Victory in the Great Patriotic War. Unlike countries of the Western Europe overpowered by Nazis, the Soviet Union did not succumb to Nazis who planned to exterminate us all. We faced a war of annihilation. For decades after Nuremberg, this was never questioned. Now, we are forced to prove that it was genocide.
The peoples of the Soviet Union not only defeated the Wehrmacht, but also brought life, liberation and salvation to the peoples of Eastern and Central Europe. The Red Army, the Soviet soldiers halted the Nazi extermination machine in its tracks and extinguished the Holocaust crematoria. Those who deny this are clearly supporting the resurgence of Nazism and the rise of neo-Nazism.
In a futile attempt, the embassies of the Kiev regime and its Western patrons are trying to propagate deep-rooted falsehoods that defy history. In their hatred, Ukrainian diplomats go so far as to equate the Soviet Union (homeland of their forefathers) with the Third Reich. <...>What they are doing causes nothing but indignation and disgust. Fathers and grandfathers of many of them, including the ringleader of the Kiev junta Zelensky, were front-line soldiers who fought for the common Soviet Motherland against Nazi invaders and criminals. What would their ancestors say, looking them in the eye, seeing their descendants who, for the sake of personal gain or a pat on the shoulder from their Western master, smear their own past and betray their own history?
#KievRegimeCrimes
The Kiev regime has really pushed the limits in its so-called de-communisation policy. It now advises Great Patriotic War veterans living in Ukraine – as unbelievable as this may sound – to conceal the war-time decorations they earned for winning the war, for the battles they fought and the feats they accomplished during the Great Patriotic War. They are being told to wear their decorations on the inside of their jackets so that they do not cause any misgivings to those around them who might somehow be disturbed. They referred to them as "sensitive people" without going as far as calling them Russia-haters, but there is no doubt that this is what they had in mind. How can this be? And how do we frame this posture? This is a deliberate effort to sneer at these people, mock and disparage them.
The Kiev regime now wants the real heroes not only to stay in the shadows, but to stage their self-annihilation of sorts so that they keep their heads underwater without even daring to show their decorations and medals. It is quite obvious that the Kiev regime views those who saved the world from Nazism with fear, hatred and resentfulness.
#UN #DoubleStandards
During his regular media briefing, Spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General Stephane Dujarric made yet another outrageous comment regarding the situation in Ukraine.
The UN Secretary-General, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, and some other UN agencies are not averse to seizing on even the most absurd accusations against our country.
#Georgia #NATO
The Alliance is continuing with its policy of drawing South Caucasus republics into its orbit.
It should be clear to everyone that NATO’s actions in the South Caucasus are not aimed at enhancing security but at creating a zone of instability and military-political tension in the region.
⚡️ The International Civil Aviation Organisation (#ICAO) issued a press release saying that on May 12, the organisation’s Council held a vote on the crash of the MH17 Malaysian Boeing aircraft in 2014. Australia and the Netherlands initiated this procedure back in March 2022.
Russia is not part of the ICAO Council. In its press release, this body alleges that the responsibility for downing this flight rests with the Russian Federation. However, the text of the ruling, including its reasoning part, is not available. Therefore, this amounted to a blind vote – it is quite obvious that this decision does not hold water.
❗️ Once again, the ICAO Council demonstrated its political bias. It takes its decision while guided by momentary considerations. This is not the way it must operate.
Russia withdrew from these proceedings last year, on June 17, 2024, in view of the multiple procedural violations by the Council and the ICAO Secretariat. <...>
That said, Moscow’s principled position remains relevant to this day – Russia was not involved in the MH17 crash, while all the claims to the contrary coming from Australia and the Netherlands are at odds with reality.
But before its withdrawal, Russia submitted exhaustive and convincing evidence and facts to the Council demonstrating that it was not involved in the crash. All member states in the Council received this information.
On several occasions, Russia suggested that the Council undertake a full, thorough and independent international investigation into the MH17 crash, as requested in UN Security Council Resolution 2166 (2014). However, guided by a political agenda and in violation of the corresponding procedure, the Council refused to carry out this investigation. Instead, it opted for giving credence to the claims by Australia and the Netherlands, as well as the outcomes produced by the Joint Investigative Team, formed by these two countries, Australia and the Netherlands, as well as Ukraine, i.e., countries with a direct interest in denigrating Russia.
<...>
Claims by the Netherlands and Australia about using satellite imagery as evidence are also false, since they never had any images of this kind at their disposal. <...>
The Council has completely ignored the fact that Ukraine had its Buk surface-to-air missile systems stationed near the crash site, as well as the markings on the missile fragments indicating that it came from Ukraine. This was not the first time that Ukraine downed a civilian aircraft – in 2001, its air defence forces downed a Russian Tu-154M aircraft over the Black Sea.
In addition to this, guided in its work by the countries of the so-called collective West and their satellites, the Council has also ignored the January 31, 2024, ruling by the UN’s International Court of Justice in the Ukraine v. Russia case. It rejected Kiev’s claims to hold Russia responsible for the MH17 crash.
<...>
Russia reaffirms its sympathy and compassion towards the families of MH17 crash victims.
However, we must make it clear that the Kiev regime is the main culprit in this tragedy.
🔻 It was Kiev which started an armed conflict in 2014 by launching a military operation against Donbass under the false pretext of combatting terrorism.
🔻 It was Kiev that shelled and bombed Donetsk, Lugansk and other cities in Donbass, killed civilians, including women and children.
🔻 It was Kiev that refused to close the air space over the combat zone.
Russia refuses to accept the Council’s decision. It is illegitimate, runs counter to the 1944 Convention on International Civil Aviation and its own rules of procedure.
☝️ Unlike the biased Council majority, Russia reaffirms its commitment to UN Security Council Resolution 2166 (2014) for the sake of establishing the true causes of the crash.
