"By thinking about the prison as war, we disabuse ourselves of the misconception that the prison system is broken and needs fixing. Rather, the war analytic helps us conceptualize carceral institutions as engines of disinformation, white supremacy, violence, and class antagonism, processes that stabilize a social order structured by inequality and exploitation. The framework of war also helps us orient our response.

The contradictions of the New York guard strike reveal that prisons are not only instruments for controlling those locked inside cages; they also control those guarding the cages. The prison has incarcerated the guard’s imagination such that the only way they can envision themselves moving up is by stepping on someone else’s neck."

’Marx’s satirical critique entitled “Saint Max” does not show a very profound understanding of Stirner’s enterprise. It rather gives the impression that the materialistic view of history does not have the wherewithal for understanding Stirner.

For example, where Stirner writes: “I am not nothing in the sense of a void but creative nothing, the nothing out of which I myself as creator create everything,” Marx turns the words around by saying: “The Holy Father [Stirner] could have expressed this as follows: I am everything in the void of nonsense but the null creator, the all from which I myself as creator create nothing.”

Stirner could well have responded to this as follows: “You have said something wise by mistake in saying that Stirner creates nothing from everything. My standpoint is exactly as you say, but its meaning is entirely different from what you think.”’

“A principle or theory of life and conduct under which society is conceived without government – harmony in such a society being obtained, not by submission to law, or by obedience to any authority, but by free agreements between the various groups, territorial and professional, freely constituted for the sake of production and consumption as also for the satisfaction of the infinite variety of needs and aspirations of a civilised being.”

— Peter Kropotkin, from the definition of anarchism written for the Encyclopaedia Britannica (1910)
"Providers are pushed to spend less time caring for each patient as health systems move to reduce costs and increase revenue under the technological principle of maximal efficiency and output. But medicine was never intended to be another industrial complex."

"Things we come to familiarize ourselves with like presidential elections, the police, banks, and wage-slavery are all social systems constructed to maintain order – an order maintained through coercion, disempowerment, and fear.

Together these things make up the governmental establishment which occupies and applies ownership to geographical locations. The maintaining of this occupation relies heavily on an apparatus that monopolizes violent force, as well as the subjugation of any persons residing in these locations. The subjugation of a population of people wouldn’t succeed without the normalized logic of submission and psychological warfare. In order to gain access to the monopolized resources needed to survive, the conquered population of people are forced to reproduce and maintain the establishment through wage-slavery: enslavement in exchange for a monetary wage. At the root of this social control is the domination of the individual – a domination which reinforces the logic of individual submission to the group."

'Inspired by a warped reading of the political philosopher Albert Hirschman, figures including Goff, Thiel and the investor and writer Balaji Srinivasan have been championing what they call “exit” – the principle that those with means have the right to walk away from the obligations of citizenship, especially taxes and burdensome regulation.

Retooling and rebranding the old ambitions and privileges of empires, they dream of splintering governments and carving up the world into hyper-capitalist, democracy-free havens under the sole control of the supremely wealthy, protected by private mercenaries, serviced by AI robots and financed by cryptocurrencies.'

'Some socialists wanted to work through government, political parties, and the state to seize power. Other socialists saw this as a corruptible reformist effort. Instead, they argued for building socialism from below through direct action, federations, and the expropriation of the means of production. The different sides agreed capitalism had to go and that the state itself was a looming threat, but struggled to find unity in their respective approaches.

This created the division we now know between statist socialism and libertarian socialism, which came to be known as Anarchism. [Note: "Libertarian" should not be confused with the modern-day appropriation of the term by right-wing laissez-faire capitalists who use the word libertar ian for their purposes.]

Libertarian had a different meaning and context then; to this day, some anarchists still hold onto the libertarian-socialist label. Furthermore, some participants of the International faced repression for using the term "anarchist" [Note: this term was first embraced by Pierre-Joseph Proudhon]. Self-identifying anarchists of this period began calling themselves such to set themselves apart from other socialists, but this did not mean that they were no longer socialists themselves. Understanding this history also helps clarify the origins of libertarian, or, anarchist communism.'

"Whether one likes it or not, the bourgeoisie, as a class, is condemned to take responsibility for all the barbarism of history, the tortures of the Middle Ages and the Inquisition, warmongering and the appeal to the raison d’Etat, racism and slavery, in short everything against which it protested in unforgettable terms at the time when, as the attacking class, it was the incarnation of human progress."
