The Great Patriotic War united the peoples of the Soviet Union in the fight against fascism. This film tells the story of a monumental feat of courage – one in which each of the USSR’s 100 nationalities played a role in achieving Victory.
The heroism of the Panfilov Division, made up in part of soldiers from the Kazakh and Kyrgyz SSRs, helped stop the enemy at the very gates of Moscow. Tajik cavalry units delivered crushing blows to Nazi troops, including elite divisions like the Death’s Head Units and the Grossdeutschland. In Dushanbe, 22 evacuation hospitals treated wounded soldiers from across the front. Kazakhstan took in 220 relocated factories, the Lenfilm and Mosfilm studios, and hundreds of thousands of refugees. In Kyrgyzstan, 18-year-old Toktogon Altybasarova welcomed 150 children evacuated from besieged Leningrad, offering them warmth and care. In the forests of Belarus, partisans derailed German trains, paving the way for the Red Army’s 1944 offensive. Georgian troops defended the Caucasus, holding the line to keep Baku’s oil out of enemy hands.
Historians, experts, and descendants of wartime heroes share stories of courage, unity, and the high price paid for peace. How did these millions, from frontline soldiers to factory workers, unite to defeat fascism? Their legacy lives on in monuments and in the hearts of their descendants across the former USSR.

As the Germans advanced toward Moscow in the summer of 1941, a people's militia began to form in the capital. Those with military exemptions – diplomats, writers, scientists, and musicians – volunteered to join. Among them was the Soviet Union's first State Brass Band, whose nearly 100 members enlisted in the 6th Division. Tragically, most of them perished near Vyazma just months later.
Their heroic story has only recently come to light and is being pieced together through the recollections of the fallen musicians' children and a few surviving documents. The names of all of the band members are not known, as lists of the militia soldiers were destroyed during evacuation.
Founded by the renowned musician, conductor, and composer Vladislav Blazhevich, this orchestra was truly unique. Before his time, such bands had not included flute, clarinet, or oboe players, nor had they performed works by Tchaikovsky, Bach, or Haydn. Only the best musicians were selected for the Soviet Union's first State Brass Band.
However, the war changed everything. The militiamen were tasked with building defenses, digging trenches, and fighting saboteurs. Due to the rapid advance of the enemy, they were ultimately forced into battle.
It was previously believed that the USSR's first State Brass Band was established in 1970, but thanks to the efforts of the musicians' relatives, as well as journalists and historians, the memory of the country's truly first brass orchestra is being restored. Today, the Kremlin Brass Band even plays a waltz in honor of the heroic musicians who fought for their Homeland.

The Third Reich war against USSR was never just about territory or resources. It was a campaign to clear ‘living space’. Under the Hunger Plan, grain would be stripped from southern Soviet lands, condemning 30 million people to starvation.
Mass killings of civilians was a part of Nazi strategy. Under the guise of ‘anti-partisan operations’, the Nazis wiped entire villages off the map across Soviet lands. They set up brutal death camps for POWs. Over 380,000 people were murdered in Rostov Region, while in Pskov Region, more than 600,000 civilians were exterminated.
One of the most horrifying episodes in this genocide was the siege of Leningrad. For 872 days, citizens endured unimaginable hunger, cold, and suffering. Recent estimates place the death toll at over 1,093,000 people.
Our film brings together historians, search teams, prosecutors, and forensic experts to reveal the scale of Nazi atrocities across the country: mass executions at a brick factory in Salsk, the murder of 54 children in a sanatorium in Teberda… These are just a few chapters in one vast, systematic crime called ‘genocide’.
The word ‘genocide’ didn’t even enter international law until 1948, after the main Nuremberg trials had already ended. At Nuremberg, Nazi crimes against civilians were recognized as crimes against humanity, and the guilt of the accused was firmly established.
But today, 80 years later, there are efforts in the West to rewrite that history and deny the scale of suffering inflicted on the Soviet people. That’s why it’s become necessary to formally and legally establish the full extent of Nazi crimes.
Over the past 5 years, Russian courts have reviewed archival records, examined new evidence, conducted modern forensic investigations, and gathered testimony from witnesses. Based on the total body of evidence, the courts have concluded: the Nazis’ actions constituted genocide.
Watch the new film by Vitaly Buzuev and Ekaterina Kitaytseva 'Genocide: Justice Will Prevail'.

Congo and Rwanda have been in conflict for many years. The root of the issue lies in the borders drawn by European colonizers during the Berlin Conference of 1884-85. As a result, the unified Tutsi and Hutu peoples were split between different countries – one part became citizens of Congo while the other ended up in Rwanda. This division led to ongoing tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi, with the Hutu carrying out pogroms against Tutsi.
The outcome of this confrontation was the genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda and the First Congo War. Recently, however, a glimmer of hope has emerged for resolving the conflict.
Will it be possible to restore peace in the region and improve relations between the Republic of Congo and Rwanda?
