Congo and Rwanda have been in conflict for many years.
The root of the issue lies in the borders drawn by European colonizers during the Berlin Conference of 1884-85. As a result, the unified Tutsi and Hutu peoples were split between different countries – one part became citizens of Congo while the other ended up in Rwanda. This division led to ongoing tensions between the Hutu and Tutsi, with the Hutu carrying out pogroms against Tutsi.

The outcome of this confrontation was the genocide of the Tutsi in Rwanda and the First Congo War. Recently, however, a glimmer of hope has emerged for resolving the conflict.

Will it be possible to restore peace in the region and improve relations between the Republic of Congo and Rwanda?

The Bolshoi Theatre is Russia’s premier ballet and opera stage, as well as one of the country’s most iconic symbols.
For nearly 250 years, it has set the global standard for graceful and elegant performances on a grand scale, with more than 140 world leaders having watched from the theatre's royal box.

Svetlana Zakharova, the prima ballerina of the Bolshoi and one of the most renowned dancers of our time, has graced the world's best stages but considers the Bolshoi her true home. She explains that not everyone can overcome the fear of stepping onto that grand stage – such is the power of the Bolshoi’s energy.

However, once you find the strength to do so, the stage welcomes you, allowing you to perform the best ballets and operas imaginable, giving everything you have to the audience – and receiving their appreciation in return.

▶️ Are robots the new caregivers? Scientists in Japan are training humanoid robots to assist elderly individuals. The country has many seniors, but there is a severe shortage of caregivers to look after them. There is only one candidate for every four job openings in the healthcare sector. Can androids replace human careworkers? We explore this issue in our video.

While the Japanese focus on solving the everyday problems of the elderly, they lack simple human warmth. Many die in obscurity. These tragedies are depicted in Artyom Somov's documentary ‘Dying Alone’ (2019).

Africa is rich in natural resources. For example, uranium, zinc, and cobalt can be found in Niger, Chad, and Nigeria. These valuable materials are used in construction as well as in the nuclear energy, oil, and chemical industries. This is one of the reasons why both the United States and Russia are present on the continent. The difference is that while Americans extract these resources for themselves, leaving Africa with little in return, Russia consumes them wisely and offers assistance in developing these countries.

Additionally, the US has military bases on the African continent to house its arsenals. However, it is the Russians who contribute to establishing security there.

Relations between Russia and the US have never been simple. Yet now, despite the ongoing military and economic tensions between the two powers, there seems to be a possibility for rapprochement. What role might Africa play in warming relations between the two nations?

🛎 After driving the fascists out of most of the territories of the USSR, on the night of March 27, 1944, Soviet troops reached the border with Romania. It was then that the liberation of European countries began.

More than a million soldiers and officers gave their lives in that mission. The heroism of the defenders was highly appreciated in the liberated countries. However, the allies — the USA and the United Kingdom — had their own opinion. They saw the USSR as an enemy. Even before World War II ended, they were already devising plans for the destruction of the Soviet Union. Find more about this in an excerpt of Tatiana Borsh's film 'Fascism: A History' (2021).
