The United States has ramped up its military actions in Yemen, carrying out a wave of airstrikes aimed at senior figures connected to the Islah Party in the Maarib Governorate. According to local sources reported by Al-Akhbar, American warplanes launched 16 strikes early yesterday, targeting the homes of military commanders from the Al-Shaddadi family in the Al-Abdiyah and Raghwan districts, southeast of Maarib city. These figures previously held key leadership positions within the Islah-controlled Third Military Zone.

These strikes follow similar recent US attacks on Islah-affiliated military positions near the Maarib frontlines, which killed the son of Mansour Al-Hanaq — head of the “Resistance of Sanaa” and a prominent Islah leader — along with several party fighters.

The US escalation also involves drone strikes in Shabwa and Hadramawt governorates, where unmanned aircraft targeted sites in Ataq and Al-Abr, resulting in five casualties between dead and wounded. While UAE-backed groups in Shabwa claimed these strikes hit Al-Qaeda operatives, the group has yet to confirm or deny the claims.

This military escalation coincides with intensified Emirati efforts to marginalize Islah and tighten its grip over the military landscape in Maarib. Abu Dhabi is actively promoting Abdulhadi Abdulatef al-Qabli Nimran, commander of the UAE-backed Sheba Axis, as its top military figure in the governorate. In recent statements to local media, Nimran announced that reigniting the Maarib frontlines was imminent, declaring his forces fully prepared, with objectives set for an advance towards Sanaa.

Although recent US strikes have primarily targeted Ansar Allah positions around Maarib, the deliberate bombing of Islah commanders’ residences has highlighted a widening divide between UAE-aligned factions and Islah, revealing Abu Dhabi’s strategic push to take over military leadership in the area for the first time in years.

These events unfold alongside a report by *The Wall Street Journal*, revealing that the UAE has submitted a military proposal to Washington outlining plans for a ground assault into Ansar Allah-held territories. According to American and Yemeni officials cited in the report, the US is considering supporting the proposed operation, though no final decision has been made. The report also noted that Saudi Arabia has declined participation, expressing concerns over potential retaliatory missile and drone attacks.

The plan would mobilize UAE-backed forces from Shabwa, Maarib, Ad-Dali, and the western coast, focusing on capturing the Red Sea city of Al-Hudaydah and neighboring coastal regions controlled by Ansar Allah. The *Journal* further indicated that these discussions come as Washington reevaluates its aerial campaign in Yemen, aiming to avoid deeper involvement in a prolonged, attritional conflict.
