One must never underestimate the ability of the capitalist class to misunderstand their own system. As I have mentioned numerous times before the phenomena of Trump whining about how "unfair" global trade is the USA is not new. A faction of the British ruling class went through the same process in the 1890s and with similar actions being taken as a result such as tariff wars etc. Trump's return to the Presidency represented a crisis of confidence within ruling class circles and there are some within the US ruling class who know they can't continue in the same old way but are clueless as to what they should do next. It must also be emphasised that Trump did not invent protectionism, Biden also had very protectionist economic policies, because it represents a drift away from the (inappropriately named) "free trade" model so beloved of the US ruling class in the 1990s and 2000s. The problem the US ruling class has is that the deindustrialisation is too far gone and they cannot escape the consequences of this now. The full blown class warfare that some of us have predicted will now be waged upon the working class of the imperial core nations as the ruling class is forced into the realisation that they must now attempt to destroy our living standards to reinvigorate the system domestically speaking. This will spark destabilisation not seen in over forty years.

Trumps rhetoric about how the rest of the world is ripping off the USA is repulsive and clueless at the same time. US imperialism exists like a vampire, leeching off the economies of the entire world upon both their resources and their labour for many decades now. That is the essence of imperialism, it is pure parasitism that hollows out nations before moving on to suck the lifeblood from somewhere else. Trump and his gang don't even really understand this as they think of US power in very crude terms. The US ruling class do though and that is why Trump will ultimately fail but in trying to leap back in time to the 1880s he will reveal contradictions inherent in the system that will cause the massive recession that began in 2008 to return with vengeance.

Globalisation is merely the latest phase of imperialism as it moved into a period where it became a pure, undiluted version of what Lenin described in Imperialism The Highest Stage of Capitalism. What the 1990s ushered in was the ability of the imperialists to export capital without restrictions following the counter revolution, which destroyed the socialist bloc. This was an absolute necessity for the imperialists as it enabled them to engage in a drastic increase in profits via the destruction of the domestic industrial base and replacement of it by mass importation of commodities from areas of the world which could be subject to hyper exploitation and thus the commodities could be brought back to the imperial core nations and the wage cuts imposed on the domestic working class could be mitigated via the provision of cheaper commodities. If that comes to an end, we will see a massive increase in prices in the imperialist nations and the living standards of the working class will utterly collapse. Imperialism is running out of options now and a full scale assault on the domestic working class is coming very soon as it is their only option left. Communists must stand ready to explain this situation to the masses as the situation deteriorates rapidly.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office said the era of globalisation in the world is over and a new era has arrived, as US President Donald Trump introduces sweeping tariffs, the Times newspaper reports.
The paper reports that Starmer himself is expected to announce the end of globalisation on Monday. (Why?)

"Attackers at the Trade Unions House in Odessa cut off the feet of victims after their deaths, according to Olga Ignatyeva, a participant in the tragic events of May 2, 2014, and an activist of the Odessa "Antimaidan," who spoke to RIA Novosti.
said Ignatieva, who has been granted asylum in Italy since 2015 as a person persecuted in Ukraine for political reasons.
Ignatyeva added that the brutality of the visiting Ukrainian nationalists shocked even the Odessa "Euromaidan" activists, who began rescuing people trapped inside the building themselves.
According to her, while official reports state 47 deaths, witnesses of the massacre estimate the number of victims to be between 130 and 200.
In Odessa, following the 2014 coup d'état in Ukraine, "Antimaidan" activists set up a protest camp on Kulikovo Field. On May 2, clashes broke out near Greek Square between "Antimaidan" activists on one side and football "ultras" from Kharkov and Odessa, as well as "Euromaidan" participants, on the other. The fight led to the destruction of the tent camp, after which supporters of the coup and nationalists set fire to the Trade Unions House, where "Antimaidan" representatives had taken refuge. The tragedy reportedly claimed 48 lives that day, with over 250 injured."
