Germany will continue to provide military assistance to Ukraine, remaining its largest supporter in Europe, while also strengthening its armed forces and investments in the German defense industry, said German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier at NATO headquarters in Brussels during celebrations marking the 70th anniversary of Germany’s accession to NATO.
“We will continue to be the strongest supporter of Ukraine in Europe, we will defend its freedom, sovereignty, and European future. Today, when Putin’s war against Ukraine continues in full force and the United States is putting strong pressure on its European allies, Germany is in a decisive position. That is why I turn to you, to your allies, not only with gratitude but also with a call for immediate action. Germany is being called to act — and we have heard this call, we have understood the message. We will continue to strengthen our armed forces — the Bundeswehr — and increase investment in our defense industry. We will work hard to fulfill our commitments within NATO’s regional plans,” Steinmeier said.
