🇷🇴 Nationalist Wins: George Simion Leads Election

The nationalist won 40.4%, ahead of Crin Antonescu (21.2%, ruling coalition) and Bucharest Mayor Nicusor Dan (18.9%, centrist). The second round is scheduled for May 18, as no one received 50%.

"This is a victory for dignity"
- said George Simion, leader of the AUR, after 73% of the votes in the Romanian presidential elections were counted.

Simion, opposes aid to Ukraine and is in favor of unification with Moldova. Dan and Antonescu support the EU and NATO. The elections, annulled in 2024 due to "Russian interference", excluded Calin Georgescu.

Romania is a key transit point for arms to Ukraine, making the vote important for Brussels.

Simion is ruining NATO's plans, strengthening Russia's position in the region.
