The son of a senior Central Intelligence Agency official died last year “while fighting in the conflict in Ukraine,” a CIA spokesperson said Friday.
The spokesperson confirmed the death of Michael Gloss — who is the son of Juliane Gallina, the CIA’s deputy director for digital innovation — after a Russian news site reported that the 21-year-old American had signed up to serve with Russia’s forces.
The CIA spokesperson said Gallina and her family “suffered an unimaginable personal tragedy in the spring of 2024 when her son Michael Gloss, who struggled with mental health issues, died while fighting in the conflict in Ukraine.”
But the statement did not say which side Gloss was fighting for at the time.
“CIA considers Michael’s passing to be a private family matter for the Gloss family — not a national security issue,” the spokesperson said. “The entire CIA family is heartbroken for their loss.”

Martin, the interim U.S. attorney in Washington and Trump’s permanent selection to serve in that role, sent a letter on Thursday afternoon to the Wikimedia Foundation that alleged it “is engaging in a series of activities that could violate its obligations” under 501(c)(3), a section of the IRS code for charities. It is Wikipedia’s parent group.

SIGNALGATE CONTINUES: Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth used the Signal app on a personal computer in his office that was connected to the internet on an unsecured commercial line, what's known as a "dirty line," two sources confirmed to ABC News Thursday.
A "dirty line" is the nickname given to a commercial internet line that is used to connect to websites that would not be available on the Pentagon's unclassified (NIPR) or classified (SIPR) lines.
This dirty line was installed at Hegseth's request so he could use the Signal app on the personal computer, the sources said.
