🎙Congratulations from Ambassador of Russia to Canada Oleg Stepanov to the Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and Russian Compatriots Residing in Canada on the Occasion of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 7, 2025)
Dear Veterans,
Dear Compatriots and Friends,
🇷🇺 I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of you on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. May 9 is a sacred date for each of us. There is hardly a Russian—or Soviet—family that was not touched by the tragedy of war.
We remain forever indebted to our forebears, who gave a resolute rebuff to the treacherous Nazi invaders. We eternally honor their heroic sacrifice and their struggle that secured for us and future generations the right to live—and to live under a peaceful sky.
📩 Our children and grandchildren continue to draw inspiration from the selfless courage of the defenders of Moscow, Stalingrad, and the Kursk Salient, and from the heroes of besieged Leningrad, Kyiv, Odesa, and countless other cities and regions of our historic Motherland.
❗️We pay tribute to the Red Army soldiers who liberated Europe from occupation and helped prevent the annihilation of millions of innocent lives. We are deeply grateful to the home front workers, who devoted themselves entirely to supplying the war effort; to the women who fought and labored side by side with men, forging the sword of victory; and to the children of war, who endured hardship and loss, and worked in factories to replace the adults who had gone to the front.
🇨🇦 We also preserve the memory of the brotherhood in arms with the Allied nations, including Canada, as part of the anti-Hitler coalition. We appreciate their contribution on the battlefield and their support—especially through the perilous Arctic Convoys. We are confident that their descendants also cherish the legacy of those historic years.
🕯At the same time, we must remember that for us, Victory Day is a celebration with tears in our eyes. The price of our freedom, independence, and triumph was immense! Millions perished heroically on the battlefield. But it is equally important to recall that of the 27 million Soviet lives lost, the vast majority were civilians—men, women, and children—who were victims of the genocidal occupation policies of Nazi Germany.
📆 Victory Day remains a unifying foundation of our national consciousness.
Russia, as the heir to the valiant legacy of the Red Army, will continue to uphold truth and justice, to defend historical memory from distortion, and to promote peace and stability around the world. It is our duty to ensure that Nazism never rises again—and we shall fulfill that duty, if need be, with sword in hand.
🇷🇺 We bow low before all defenders of the Fatherland!
🔴🔴Happy Victory Day! To our Victory!

✍️ Russia’s MFA Spokeswoman Maria #Zakharova:
According to a report by Sky News, the neo-Nazis of the Ukrainian Armed Forces will participate in the VE Day procession in London on May 8.
The country has not seen anything like this for nearly 90 years since the infamous Cable Street march, when Oswald Mosley’s British Union of Fascists was granted official permission to march through London’s East End in October 1936 – an event widely regarded as a shameful chapter in British history.
At that time, many showed support for the British Fascists in London. There were still nearly two years left until the 1938 Munich Agreement – the example of Britain’s appeasing Hitler. England still demonstrated conscience and dignity as anti-fascist activists and some concerned police officers managed to disrupt the far-right and anti-Semite procession in the city.
But this time, London will actually see them march.
Surprisingly, the British authorities’ rationale behind the decision is the Kiev regime’s confrontation with Russia, which is cited directly by Sky News.
This evokes disturbing historical parallels of Great Britain’s notorious insidiousness.
For instance, Winston Churchill, who took part in the Yalta and Potsdam conferences along with the other Big Three leaders, publicly affirmed the alliance with the USSR while addressing Soviet people and Generalissimo Joseph Stalin, and praised the Red Army’s sacrifices. However – as we all know it now – behind closed doors, he authorised the drafting of Operation Unthinkable, a secret plan for a potential Allied invasion of the Soviet Union.
These plans remained classified for half a century until they were finally released by the British General Staff in 1988. Apparently, MI5 and MI6 thought that the Soviet Union, which was on the verge of collapse at the time, would have its historical memory buried, and the publication of these materials would no longer compromise London.
Britain’s direct armed confrontation with the USSR is nothing new. During the Russian Civil War, British forces participated in the Triple Entente intervention. Less than three decades later, the idea of attacking Russia again resurfaced in London.
In the immediate aftermath of World War II, many in London hoped for the launch of an offensive against the USSR. The fully developed plan assumed the “strategic defeat” of Moscow after the end of the war in Europe.
Historians continue to debate why the British never sent their weapons against Soviet troops in 1945–1946. Some claim that the Conservative Party losing the election was the cause, while others point to fears that such a war against the USSR would crush Western Europe and Britain itself. Perhaps London ultimately recognised the military prowess of the Red Army that had decisively defeated the Nazi war machine and thus could take upon any challenge.
Now, British authorities, unable to achieve their strategic objectives through inflicting the “strategic defeat” and led by despair and hopelessness, have chosen to allow actual Nazis – Ukrainian terrorists and militants armed with British weapons – to march through Trafalgar Square.
The Global Majority will see it as a parade of ideological descendants of Nazis, collaborators, and criminals responsible for the Holocaust and genocide of Soviet people.
In their attempts to inflict a “strategic defeat” on Russia, the Anglo-Saxons only inflicted a blow on themselves. Few things could be more shameful and humiliating than allowing inglorious neo-Nazi bastards to walk in the heart of London on the anniversary of Victory. Unfortunately, this is the biggest “strategic defeat” ever experienced by the ordinary British.

💬 High Commissioner for Human Rights of the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova:
🇺🇦 On May 2, the UN Committee against Torture has published a report on Ukraine, which includes accounts of ill-treatment, torture, and sexual violence against Russian POWs, as well as against civilians suspected of "collaboration or threats to national security".
📄 The report states that the Committee is “concerned over reports of torture, including sexual violence, threats, humiliation, as well as unlawful killings and deaths in custody of POWs. These acts were allegedly committed by Ukrainian armed forces and security services, mainly in unofficial or transit detention facilities prior to their internment”.
🔎 Despite the Ukrainian side’s denial of the existence of such “unofficial” facilities, the Committee expressed concern over the lack of transparency, clear procedural safeguards for detainees, and proper documentation of bodily injuries.
❗ The information and conclusions presented in the report are neither new nor unexpected. We have repeatedly drawn the attention of the international community and international bodies, including the UN Committee against Torture, to the egregious violations of human rights and humanitarian law by the Ukrainian side, in breach of Ukraine's international legal obligations.
⚖️ The information presented by the UN Committee against Torture is in line with the decision of the European Court of Human Rights on March 13, 2025, which found Ukraine responsible for the events in Odessa on May 2, 2014.

🌟 On May 2, 1945, units and formations of the Red Army under the command of Georgy Zhukov and Ivan Konev completely took control of Berlin. After desperate resistance, the capital of the fascist Reich fell under the victorious blows of Soviet forces.
The Berlin Strategic Offensive Operation was conducted from April 16 to May 8, 1945. On April 20, Konev and Zhukov issued nearly identical orders to their front-line troops: to be the first to break into Berlin. Every street and every building had to be taken by storm.
On April 29, the battle for the Reichstag began. Before the assault, the military council of the 3rd Shock Army presented its divisions with nine red banners, specially made in the style of the Soviet state flag. One of these red banners, known as No. 5 and referred to as the “Victory Banner,” was given to the 150th Rifle Division. <...> It was raised by scouts Mikhail Yegorov and Junior Sergeant Meliton Kantaria, accompanied by Alexey Berest and submachine gunners from the company of Senior Sergeant Ilya Syanov.
🕓 On May 2, the Nazi resistance in Berlin ceased. On that day, the Reichstag appeared red from the multitude of small flags, red banners, and flags.

🇷🇺🇹🇬 On May 1, Russian Federation and Togolese Republic mark 6️⃣5️⃣ years of diplomatic relations.
The Soviet Union was one of the first countries to recognise this emerging West African nation as an independent state.
Bilateral relations have advanced steadily since that time, marked by intergovernmental agreements on trade, economic development and technological cooperation. Humanitarian ties have been equally significant.
🤝 Russia and Togo have established a constructive and productive political dialogue based on the proximity of their respective approaches to most current international issues.
Cooperation is expanding between the two countries’ foreign ministries. In November, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Togolese Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration and Togolese Abroad Robert Dussey met on the sidelines of the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in Sochi.
Moscow and Lomé engage in constructive cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral platforms, where both Sides are taking joint steps to strengthen peace, stability and security.
📈 Russia and Togo are striving to deepen their mutually beneficial partnership in trade and investment.
Higher education opportunities for Togolese students at Russian universities remains a traditional and important aspect of bilateral cooperation.
✉️ On the occasion of the anniversary Sergey Lavrov and Robert Dussey exchanged congratulatory messages. The Russian Minister highly praised the traditionally friendly Russia–Togo relations, which are based on the principles of mutual respect and similarity of approaches to current international and regional issues.
🎉 We extend our best wishes to our Togolese friends on the occasion of the joint anniversary and confirm our unwavering resolve to deepen and expand the multifaceted partnership between Russia and Togo.

⚡️ Foreign Ministry’s statement regarding Kiev regime’s terrorist attack on Aleshki, Kherson Region, Russian Federation
On the morning of May 1, the Armed Forces of Ukraine once again targeted a civilian site on Russian territory, launching FPV drones at a crowded market in the town of Aleshki, Kherson Region.
According to preliminary reports, seven civilians were killed and more than twenty sustained injuries. Following the initial strikes, which had already caused significant casualties, a second wave of drone attacks was launched, deliberately targeting survivors and emergency responders who had arrived at the scene.
This heinous attack represents yet another grave war crime committed by the Ukrainian Nazis against the civilian population of Russia.
It is evident that the strike was deliberately timed to coincide with a public holiday, when many residents were gathered at the market, in a clear attempt to inflict maximum civilian casualties. This atrocity once again reveals the true nature of the Kiev regime and its unwavering commitment to escalating the armed conflict while actively undermining all prospects for a peaceful resolution. The current Ukrainian neo-Banderite leadership continues to demonstrate a complete unwillingness to engage in dialogue.
☝️ Today’s criminal act by Kiev thugs also lies on the conscience of their Western sponsors, who continue to provide them with weapons and financial support. It is increasingly clear that behind the unsubstantiated and unrealistic claims by the Kiev regime and its Western backers to restore Ukraine within its 1991 borders lies a deeply hostile agenda aimed at erasing all that is Russian. Russia will, without question, take all necessary measures to ensure that such a scenario is never allowed to materialise.
All those responsible for and complicit in this barbaric act committed by Kiev will be identified and will face inevitable justice in accordance with the law.
We call on the sensible members of the international community and relevant multilateral organisations to strongly condemn this heinous act of terrorism.
◾️ We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims, and we wish a swift and full recovery to all those who were injured.

🎥 World War II Leaders — an RT Doc Film.
Synopsis: The film explores the complex and shifting political dynamics between the USSR, the United States, and Britain before, during, and after World War II, focusing on the powerful and often uneasy relationship between their leaders — Joseph Stalin, Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
These leaders played a crucial role in WWII and in shaping the post-war global order.
However, while they stood united against Nazi Germany, tensions simmered beneath the surface.
Britain, in particular, considered invading a weakened USSR after the war, instigating a study of how to attack the USSR, along with the USA. Stalin managed to uncover these secret plans and successfully prevented their implementation.
On the other hand, when helping Britain fight Nazi Germany in 1940, Roosevelt burdened his ally with crippling debt through the lend-lease programme, contributing to the collapse of the British Empire.
👉 Learn more about how the United States and Britain used the war to weaken the Soviet Union.

#MartyrsForTruth is a special project dedicated to commemorating Russian journalists who lost their lives at the hands of Ukrainian neo-Nazis.
On #WorldPressFreedomDay, we honor the journalists who perished for making the truth known to the public.
▪️ Maxim Fomin (Vladlen Tatarsky) (1982–2023) — journalist, blogger, author, militia member.
He was killed in a terrorist attack on April 2, 2023, during a meeting with followers in St. Petersburg.
Investigators established that the scheme for the attack had been hatched in Ukraine in 2022, and perpetrated by Darya Trepova, who brought explosives to the event concealed in a statuette.
Maxim was killed in the explosion, more than 30 other innocent people were injured.
Trepova was sentenced to 27 years in prison.

🕯 May 2 marks 11 years since the tragedy in Odessa.
On that day, the Euromaidan supporters, ultra radicals and outright Neo-Nazis committed atrocities against those who openly opposed the anti-constitutional government coup in Kiev perpetrated by nationalists, at the behest and with the support from their the western sponsors.
This atrocity must not be forgotten or swept under the rug: we shan't let the world forget what happened on 2 May 2014 in Odessa.
👉 A detailed reconstruction & retrospective of the events of that day and the ensuing tragedy.
According to official statistics alone, at least 48 people died during these tragic events, including 42 who were killed or burned alive at the Trade Unions House, as well as another six who perished during the clashes on the streets of Odessa.
In fact, the Kiev regime and its pet cronies has repeated — to the letter — what the Bandera torturers did 80 years ago in Khatyn.
❗️ Although many perpetrators have been identified, they have not received the punishment they deserve.
The West remains silent regarding these bloody crimes of the Ukrainian neo-Nazis, the Kiev regime, which to this day continues to use terrorist methods.
Comment by Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the 10th anniversary of the tragedy in Odessa of May 2, 2024.

🎙 Darya Dugina (1992–2022)
Political scientist, war correspondent, radio host at Komsomolskaya Pravda, journalist at Tsargrad Media, and advocate for the Russian World. Daughter of Russian philosopher Alexander Dugin.
On August 20, 2022, Darya was killed in a targeted terrorist attack near Moscow.
Her car was remotely detonated by Ukrainian intelligence agent Natalya Vovk, who had been tracking Darya’s movements for weeks and entered Russia using her underage daughter as cover.
The terrorist was arrested in absentia by a Moscow court later that year.
❗️ Darya’s murder is part of a growing list of attacks on journalists and public voices — crimes often ignored by Western governments and media under the veil of political expediency.
We will not forget.
We will not forgive.
