🇸🇾🤝🇮🇶 — Kurdistan Watch: As expected, Nechirvan Barzani met with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa. The meeting was arranged by Turkish officials.

Turkish officials have also arranged additional meetings for Al-Sharaa with other leaders attending the Antalya Conference.

Interestingly, Al-Sharaa’s brother is said to have worked as the director of the Coca-Cola factory in Erbil, which is owned by Nechirvan’s son, Idris.

🇮🇶 🏴 🇮🇶 - A video was released by the Kurdistan Security Council showing that the Assyrian New Year attacker was indeed a Syrian Kurd from Qamishli, Syria living in Domiz refugee camp near Dohuk. He was an affiliate of ISIS, under the kunya "Abu Suleyman al Baghuzi" (Baghuz Fawqani was the last ISIS territory in Syria prior to its 2019 collapse)

In the video he speaks with a Kurdish accent in Arabic, indicating that he is a native Kurdish speaker.

He describes how he contacted ISIS via a liason named Abu Suleiman via a messaging app, who instructed him to give bayah to the caliph, and then met him. He took jihadi and sharia courses under him.

They both spoke to the ISIS spokesman, Abu Hudhayfa al Ansari. to whom he became close to. He called for the targetting of Christians wherever they were found, and he and Abu Suleyman ordered the attack on the Assyrian New Year festival.

🇮🇶 🇮🇶 🇮🇶 - Reuters via Kurdistan Watch: Ten Shia militias—including the powerful Kataib Hezbollah, Harakat al-Nujabaa, and Kataib Sayyed al-Shuhada—are reportedly prepared to ‘disarm for the first time in an effort to avert the threat of escalating conflict with the US’.

The groups have largely withdrawn from their positions in Sunni-majority areas such as Mosul and Anbar.

However, according to a US source cited in the report, this is likely a deceptive maneuver and not indicative of a long-term disarmament.

This was just two days after a stabbing committed by a Kurdish Islamist against the Khab Nishan celebration, also attended by diaspora Assyrians alongside locals.

The rise of Islamism in Iraqi Kurdistan is alarming, and is concurrent with the rise of Islamism among Iraqi Sunni Arabs.

The bill aims to sanction and crush the acess of Iranian-backed militias into the Western Financial system, pressure Iraq into dismantling the PMF and prohibit LNG imports by Iraq from Iran, which is used to bypass sanctions on Iran

In Statement, Rep. Joe Wilson said:

The Free Iraq from Iran Act will stand with Iraq and free its people and finally end Iran’s reign of terror in Iraq.

He worked as a tailor and lived with his mother, sister, and brother, while his father resides abroad, according to security sources cited by Rudaw TV.

His family expressed shock over the incident, saying they were unaware of any extremist views he may have held. It remains unclear how he was radicalized, or whether the attack is connected to ISIS or any other terrorist organization.
