A common question arises: If miracles were so common in the early church, why don’t we see them today? The Bible provides a clear answer—certain miraculous gifts, known as sign gifts, had a specific purpose and ceased once that purpose was fulfilled.

In the New Testament, miracles such as healing the sick and casting out demons were primarily signs to confirm the message of the apostles. Mark 16:20 states, “The Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following.” Similarly, Hebrews 2:3-4 explains that God used signs and wonders to validate the gospel.

However, 1 Corinthians 13:8-10 teaches that these gifts were temporary: “Whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease.” When “that which is perfect” came—understood as the completion of Scripture—the need for sign gifts ended. Historically, miracles declined after the apostolic era, and by the second and third centuries, church leaders confirmed they had ceased.

Does this mean God no longer performs miracles? Not at all. He still answers prayer, heals, and works providentially. However, modern claims of faith healers performing apostolic miracles are often fraudulent, exploiting people for personal gain. Jesus warned of such deceivers in Matthew 7:22-23, saying that many who claim to do miracles in His name are not truly His followers.

Rather than seeking signs, believers today rely on the unchanging Word of God. Romans 10:17 declares, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The greatest miracle is still happening—the salvation of lost souls through the gospel. That is the true power of God at work today.

In Genesis 1:1-5, the Message Version mocks God by turning God’s complete sentences & powerful commands into watered down, incoherent commands and error-filled sentences with grammar errors. Some of the Message Version’s errors for its Genesis 1 include:
💥Having a colon [which is the : symbol] instead of a comma in verse 1, which is improper sentence structure because “first this” without a verb is a dependent clause, which is a clause/incomplete sentence that does not form a complete thought or wording, thus confusing the reader on what God’s words say and making God look confused on what he himself said in the introduction of Genesis 1 in verse 1
💥Switching “moved” to “brooded”, which creates a huge difference and much confusion. As per the KJB, the word “moved” in the context means that the Spirit of God physically went/moved a certain way over something, [i.e. the face of the waters]. However, the Message Version’s word brooded [from the word “brood” has multiple meanings such as “ “think for a long time about things that make you sad, worried, or angry” (Source 1, Source 2). Brood means “To sit on and cover, as a fowl on her eggs” (Source) or “to remain a long time in anxiety” (Source). In the context of verse 2 (which is verses 1 and 3 of Genesis 1), God is not angry at the earth and is not covering young birds’ eggs but was creating the earth as per Genesis 1:1, and created the light on Day 1, proving that brood and the Message’s word “brooded” are incorrect words for Genesis 1:2 while the KJB’s word “moved” does correctly describe what God does in Genesis 1:1-3
💥Omitting the words “Let there be” from verse 3 puts an incomplete, half-empty sentence into God’s mouth. Omitting the word “the” two times from verse 4 removes a definite article, which specifies a noun or group of nouns. In this case, “the” refers to “light”
💥Omitting the word “and” from verse 5 and turning “and” into a comma creates a grammatically incorrect, run-on sentence (in the Message Version’s verse 5) with no conjunction word that creates would otherwise connect both clauses/parts of a sentence together, making God look like a person who does not know how to talk. Also, no conjunction word or semicolon is in the middle of the 2nd sentence of the Message "bible" Version's verse 5 between "it was evening, it was morning".
