I was asked about my family and talked about my children. A middle-aged woman explained that children are not for everyone, and she is single and childless by choice. She said her goal was to be the "fun aunt," and she loves taking care of her cats. She just volunteered this.

I had a long conversation with an angry woman from Oklahoma who wanted to talk about the Tulsa Race Riot. I have no knowledge of that event, as nobody seemed to have known of it until the Summer of Floyd. The woman cursed her own people several times and described aircraft strafing homes. She said a conspiracy of intimidation enforced silence until now, and wondered how people could live in so much fear as to stay quiet about important events. I suggested that we learned something about such conspiracies in the last few years.

I had dinner with a South Dakota cowboy and a college administrator from Seattle. The administrator was the son of immigrants from Norway. He said his parents raised him to be an American and purposely kept the Norwegian language out of his upbringing. He reflected on the difference in attitude towards immigration today, which is filled with antagonism towards the host nation.
