I had a long conversation with an angry woman from Oklahoma who wanted to talk about the Tulsa Race Riot. I have no knowledge of that event, as nobody seemed to have known of it until the Summer of Floyd. The woman cursed her own people several times and described aircraft strafing homes. She said a conspiracy of intimidation enforced silence until now, and wondered how people could live in so much fear as to stay quiet about important events. I suggested that we learned something about such conspiracies in the last few years.

I had dinner with a South Dakota cowboy and a college administrator from Seattle. The administrator was the son of immigrants from Norway. He said his parents raised him to be an American and purposely kept the Norwegian language out of his upbringing. He reflected on the difference in attitude towards immigration today, which is filled with antagonism towards the host nation.

In spite of my bulky set of works related to Long and specifically to his death, I cannot verify the alleged Jewish ancestry of Weiss. I can verify from any number of sources the Roman Catholic adherence and practice of Weiss, his parents, and his grandfather who had immigrated to Louisiana from Germany. Weiss was educated in a Catholic parochial school, St. Vincent's, in Baton Rouge. Allegedly, Weiss was enraged that Long had directed the removal of Judge Pavy, the close relative of his Weiss' wife. Everyone close to Weiss expressed bewilderment at his undisputed action to enter the Capitol with his bag late Sunday after 9 PM in an apparent attempt to meet/confront/murder Long. Weiss' own family and friends did not know him to be politically engaged. The ultimate motives and actions of Weiss will remain shrouded and beyond the abilities of historians to know, but the fate of this 29 year old newlywed, father, and promising physician is full of pathos.
