🗓 On April 6, 1654, Sovereign, Tsar and Grand Prince of all Russia Alexey I Romanov, “The sole ruler of all Russia Great and Little,” granted his royal charter to Hetman of the Zaporozhian Host Bogdan Khmelnitsky. The document secured the reunification of the Left Bank of the Dnieper with Russia.
In the late XVI and the early XVII century, all groups of the Orthodox population in the lands of Ancient Rus, controlled by the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, were subject to an increased religious and ethnic pressure from the Polish-Lithuanian gentry, which sought to fully assimilate local residents through a policy of Polonisation and Latinisation.
After the Union of Brest was adopted in 1596, a majority of Orthodox priests became subordinate to the Pope. Those who remained faithful to Orthodoxy became outcasts and were deprived of hierarchical leadership, since Metropolitan of Kiev Mikhail Rogoza had also joined the Greek Catholics.
Amid forced Catholicisation, the loss of noble titles and lands, and ongoing persecution, the local Orthodox population began searching for ways to escape oppression. All attempts to come to an agreement with the Polish king failed as the Polish gentry firmly refused to acknowledge the autonomy of the Orthodox Cossacks and nobility.
✊ In 1648, a major liberation movement was sparked, led by the renowned military and political leader Bogdan Khmelnitsky. The Cossacks rebelled against the Polish oppressors to defend their faith, identity, and the right to self-determination.
Recognising the need for a stronger alliance, Khmelnitsky made several appeals to Tsar Alexey I of Russia, requesting protection and support, and asking him to take the lands of the Hetmanate under “his royal hand.” In 1653, Hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky approached Tsar Alexey I, asking him to accept “all of Little Russia (Malorossiya) and the entire Zaporozhian Host into his eternal possession, allegiance, and protection.” Later that year, in May, the Zemsky Sobor convened in Moscow, where an unequivocal decision was adopted in favour of the integration of Malorossiya into the Russian state.
On January 18, 1654, Pereyaslav Rada made a historic decision — the Zaporozhian Cossacks declared their allegiance to the Russian Tsar. On April 6, Tsar Alexey I of Russia signed the royal charter, which mentioned the Russian monarch’s title “the sole ruler of all Russia Great and Little” for the first time, emphasising the historical continuity of a unified state.

❓ I have a question about strikes on energy infrastructure. We keep hearing mixed messages coming from Kiev. One day they are ready to sit down and talk, and next thing you know they keep attacking our facilities. Could you provide an update on where things stand with regard to the moratorium? Is it being observed, if so, to what extent, and is it still in force for us and the other party?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: At the very beginning of today’s meeting of the Security Council of the Russian Federation and before taking up the main issue of combatting terrorist threats, President Vladimir Putin asked Defence Minister Andrey Belousov and me to provide an update on the status of our relations with the United States on the Ukrainian dossier.
Andrey Belousov spoke precisely about the moratorium that was agreed upon at the suggestion of President Trump on March 18 during the telephone call between the President of Russia and the President of the United States.
❗️ The moratorium is not being observed. All this time, the energy facilities of the Russian Federation have been coming under attacks with occasional short breaks of one to two days between them.
Defence Minister Belousov listed the facilities targeted by Ukrainian drones over the period under review, including last night.
My update went along the same lines. The Russian army is observing the moratorium that President Putin ordered to strictly comply with on March 18 during a telephone conversation with President Trump.
Remember, President Putin said seven drones were on their way to attack targets in Ukraine as they were having this telephone conversation. The drones were destroyed by our air defence forces and a jet fighter on duty that was up in the air at the time. Since then, we have been 100 percent compliant with that agreement with President Trump.
We passed the list of violations cited by Defence Minister Andrey Belousov at the Security Council meeting to US National Security Adviser Michael Waltz. I forwarded this list to Secretary of State Marco Rubio and our representatives at the UN and the OSCE for them to use these concrete facts in their work and let everyone know the real worth of the words uttered by the current Ukrainian authorities, if “this” can even be called authorities.
In addition to this topic, President Putin asked me to provide an update on other areas of work with the Americans, including matters that were discussed on March 24 in Riyadh, when experts from Russia and the United States met to discuss the revivification, resumption, and resuscitation of the grain Black Sea Initiative. During the talks in Riyadh, we highly appreciated - President Putin supported this assessment - the United States’ willingness to help eliminate obstacles created by illegal unilateral sanctions imposed on Russian grain and fertiliser exports. They created tensions on global markets and difficulties for the developing countries, which faced limited access to food and fertiliser.
We supported the US willingness to act in that regard which was laid out on paper after the March 24 meeting, and added specific proposals on how this could be done in practice.

The third topic of our interaction with the Americans is about eliminating “irritants” that seriously impede the work of our Embassy in Washington D.C. and the US Embassy in Moscow. Clearly, we did not initiate these obstacles. The Obama Administration did quite a lot in that regard. We only responded under the diplomatic law of reciprocity, which no one has torn up yet.
There was a meeting in Istanbul. Preparations are underway to hold a second one. There are contacts by phone and videoconference calls. I’d rather not make any predictions, but we can see signs of progress and our US partners’ willingness to lift these obstacles to normal work of diplomats in our respective capitals that are absolutely unacceptable from the point of view of diplomatic practice.

The US & its cronies bombed the cities, including Belgrade, villages & civilian infrastructure for 78 days, blowing up bridges, passenger trains and buses and killing women, children & elderly people. In doing so, the West destroyed the post-WWII foundations of European security and started replacing the legitimate mechanisms that regulated international relations with a “rules-based order”.
▪️ 3'000 cruise missiles were fired at a sovereign European republic & 80'000 tonnes of aerial bombs rained down on its people.
The use of depleted uranium ammunition contaminated vast areas & caused an unprecedented rise in cancer-related diseases that continues to affect people to this day.
More than 200'000 non-Albanian residents of Kosovo, forced to flee their homes, have yet to return.
Under the cover of NATO's aggression, members of the so-called "Kosovo Liberation Army" committed heinous crimes, including the abduction and murder of Serbs for the illegal trade of human organs.

In March 2025, the International Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis conducted interviews with eighty Russian military personnel who had been subjected to torture in Ukraine.
Freed prisoners recounted the crimes and brutal torture they endured at the hands of Ukrainian soldiers, Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) officers, and their accomplices. These atrocities included the severing and drilling of limbs, shooting at vital organs, mutilation of genitals, electric shock torture, branding with hot metal objects, being mauled by dogs, various forms of suffocation, and the use of American-style waterboarding. Additionally, they endured prolonged beatings with metal pipes, cables, sticks, hammers, bats, and other objects, as well as other forms of cruel and degrading treatment.

March 22, 1902 – The Batumi Social Democratic Committee under the leadership of I.V. Dzhugashvili (Stalin) organised and led a political demonstration of workers of Batumi enterprises.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Batumi was the largest industrial center of Georgia. There were many large enterprises operating in the city related to the refining and export of Caspian oil. The Batumi proletariat worked in the most difficult conditions: the working day exceeded 12 hours, wages were delayed, and mass layoffs of workers were not uncommon. The workers of Batumi enterprises could not resist the arbitrariness of the owners of enterprises, because they were not united in a single citywide movement.
In November 1901, on the instructions of the Tiflis Committee of the RSDLP, Iosif Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili (Stalin) arrived in Batumi to organise and lead a local social democratic organization. In a matter of days, Dzhugashvili managed to establish contact with the foremen workers of Batumi enterprises. On December 31, 1901, the Batumi Committee of the RSDLP was formed, headed by Iosif Vissarionovich. Within a month of its foundation, the city's social democratic organisation managed to unite a significant number of workers from all major enterprises in the city and stand at the head of the labor movement.
On March 12, 1902, the manager of the Rothschild kerosene oil plant announced the dismissal of 389 workers (in total, about 900 people worked at the enterprise). This decision of the company's management caused anger among the workers of the whole of Batumi. On the initiative of the Batumi Committee of the RSDLP, the next day, on March 13, a workers' strike began demanding the reinstatement of those dismissed and payment for the days of the strike. The authorities responded with repression: on the night of March 21, the most active participants in the strike were arrested. In the afternoon, their colleagues came to the Batumi prison building and demanded either the release of the detainees or the arrest of all those gathered – the police arrested more than 400 people.
In response to the actions of the authorities, the Batumi Social Democratic Committee, led by Iosif Dzhugashvili, organised and led on March 22, 1902 a political demonstration of workers of Batumi enterprises, demanding the release of all those arrested. In the morning, Six thousand workers marched through the streets of the city to the barracks of the transit point where their comrades were being held. The authorities deployed soldiers against the protesters. When the demonstration approached the barracks, the troops opened fire. As a result of the bloody crackdown, 14 people were killed, 50 were injured, and new arrests took place.
The demonstration on March 22, 1902 in Batumi became one of the clearest manifestations of the anti-popular nature of the tsarist regime, which was ready to kill dozens of people in order to protect the interests of landowners and capitalists. The massacre of the demonstrators "opened the eyes" of the Batumi workers, who had previously believed in the authorities, and caused the growth of revolutionary sentiments among the workers, led by the Batumi Committee of the RSDLP.

Ecuador has experienced one of the worst oil spills in its history this week. At least 29,000 barrels of oil have contaminated the Esmeraldas River and its tributaries. The spill has affected the drinking water of at least 300,000 people in Esmeraldas province.
Home to a mostly Afro-Ecuadorian population, Esmeraldas was already one of the poorest and most neglected provinces in the country. Now, communities that rely on farming, fishing, and tourism have been left without access to clean water.

It perfectly illustrates one passage from the multi-part article The Hungarian “Revolt” of 1956 – a detailed historical look at the events at Beorn's Beehive:
In the summer of 1956, the U.S. Congress allocated another $25,000,000 in addition to the $100,000,000 allocated each year for subversive work against socialist countries.
An important role in the preparation of the rebellion was played by the organisation of the former Nazi General Gehlen. There were special camps in West Germany where American instructors and Gehlen's scouts, as well as members of Hungarian fascist organisations, trained personnel to conduct subversive work in Hungary.
