Time is running out.

Ruben Vardanyan is in critical condition as his hunger strike reaches its 15th day, with his health rapidly deteriorating in illegal Azerbaijani detention. Yet, despite his worsening state, Azerbaijan continues to forcibly bring him to court, escalating concerns over his life-or-death situation.

Vardanyan has been subjected to prolonged isolation, denied water, and forced to stand for long periods of time, all while being deprived of independent medical care. A corrupt nation, Azerbaijan is blatantly violating a series of human and judicial rights while pursuing fabricated, baseless charges against him—accusations so absurd they are impossible to take seriously. His hunger strike is his final act of resistance.

All Armenian detainees, including Vardanyan, have been denied access to case materials and legal proceedings in languages they understand, further stripping them of any semblance of due process. International entities and media have been completely barred from communication or visits, ensuring that Azerbaijan’s abuses remain hidden from global scrutiny.

The world must act now. Armenians everywhere must demand that their governments take urgent steps to secure the release of Vardanyan and all illegally held Armenian hostages.

Freedom to all Armenian hostages!
The Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF) has formally referred Azerbaijan’s actions in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to the International Criminal Court (ICC). The complaint, submitted by attorney Sévag Torossian, urges the ICC Prosecutor to investigate Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and other officials for alleged genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity committed between 2020 and 2023.

The CCAF highlights the forced displacement of 120,000 Armenians and the destruction of their cultural heritage as a result of Azerbaijan’s military aggression. Citing previous statements from NGOs and former ICC Prosecutor Luis Moreno Ocampo, the organization argues that legal action is necessary to hold Azerbaijan accountable.

CCAF Co-Presidents Ara Toranian and Mourad Papazian have also called on the French government to push for an official ICC investigation. The complaint requests that the ICC Prosecutor:
• Open an investigation into crimes committed against Artsakh Armenians.
•Determine the ICC’s jurisdiction over Nagorno-Karabakh.
• Issue an international arrest warrant for President Aliyev and others responsible for the alleged crimes.

The CCAF warns that failure to act would mark a second denial of justice for Armenians since 1915 and stresses the ICC’s role in preventing impunity for crimes of this scale.
Martun Grigoryan has announced his decision to run for mayor of Gyumri.

“I will make an announcement in the coming days regarding the format of my participation, but there are no negotiations with the authorities, and there can be no cooperation,” said the MP from the With Honour faction.

The election follows the resignation of Mayor Vardges Samsonyan and other municipal officials in October 2024. Samsonyan, a member of the Balasanyan Alliance, resigned shortly after Khachatur Balasanyan, son of former Gyumri Mayor Samvel Balasanyan and a key opposition figure, was detained on October 11.

In the interim, Sarik Minasyan was appointed acting mayor after winning an open primary held by the ruling Civil Contract party. Although he ran as a nonpartisan, he joined Civil Contract soon after.

It should also be noted that producer Ruben Mkhitaryan announced his candidacy yesterday.
The puppet court in Baku has once again ignored the legitimate appeal of Ruben Vardanyan’s lawyers, continuing a pattern of systematic legal violations. Vardanyan, who was unlawfully detained by Azerbaijani forces on September 27, 2023, has been imprisoned for over 500 days, facing politically motivated charges.

According to his defense team, the court has repeatedly disregarded fundamental legal principles, depriving Vardanyan of a fair trial and due process. These violations are not isolated incidents but part of a broader campaign of political persecution.

International human rights organizations have raised concerns over the treatment of Armenian political prisoners in Azerbaijan, calling for greater scrutiny of the ongoing judicial abuses. Despite legal challenges, Vardanyan’s defense team remains committed to pursuing justice, vowing to escalate the case to international courts if necessary.

President Joseph Aoun announced on Saturday that he had accepted the resignation of the former caretaker government and signed a decree with Salam to form the new 24-member cabinet.

Bayrakdarian brings extensive academic and policy experience to her new role. Iran’s Ambassador to Armenia, Mehdi Sobhani, visited a military education classroom today after attending the opening ceremony of a Persian language classroom at a Yerevan school.

According to Iranologist Vardan Voskanyan, the ambassador expressed interest in learning about the specifics of military education in Armenian schools. Following the visit, Sobhani emphasized that both Armenia and Iran are committed to peace and are capable of safeguarding it through their own strength and mutual support.
President of the Republic of Artsakh Samvel Shahramanyan strongly condemns the statements made yesterday from the high podium of the Armenian Parliament and at a press briefing with journalists by the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, regarding the struggle of the people of Artsakh, the defense of the homeland, and the actions of the authorities of Artsakh. These statements have deeply disturbed the already unsettled spirits of the forcibly displaced people of Artsakh.

With this statement, Alen Simonyan attempted to belittle the heroic struggle of the people of Artsakh during more than nine months of blockade and the large-scale military actions that followed. Samvel Shahramanyan finds it necessary to once again emphasize that the people of Artsakh did everything possible to continue living on their historical homeland. However, the struggle is not only fought on the battlefield but also on political and diplomatic fronts, where Alen Simonyan has repeatedly shifted his opinions and positions on matters of utmost importance for Artsakh and Armenia, depending on political and other considerations.

The authorities of Artsakh made every effort to ensure that the servicemen defending the homeland did not feel abandoned and could safely leave their positions or the blockade after the cessation of hostilities. The President of the Republic of Artsakh demands that the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, publicly apologize to the displaced people of Artsakh and refrain from making any statements that undermine the struggle of the people of Artsakh and the defense of the homeland. He also calls on Simonyan to comment on his own statement regarding who called whom from Artsakh and requested the so-called border to be opened.

Given the widespread negative reaction to Alen Simonyan’s statement among the people of Artsakh, Samvel Shahramanyan urges the National Assembly of Armenia to use the high podium of the Armenian Parliament not for divisive and dangerous statements, but for addressing the existential problems of Armenians from Artsakh. He calls on the Parliament to redirect all energy and efforts toward revising the failed housing program proposed for Artsakh’s displaced people and to create adequate conditions for Artsakh Armenians to remain in Mother Armenia.

This was reported by the Artsakh Information centre.

Armen Garo, a distinguished figure in the Republic of Armenia and a prominent leader of the ARF, as well as a key figure in Operation Nemesis, was born on February 9, 1872, in Karin.

Throughout his life, Armen Garo played crucial roles in various self-defense movements in regions such as Zeytun, Van, and Tbilisi. He was deeply involved in diplomatic efforts aimed at safeguarding the rights of Armenians. Serving as the representative of Armenians in the Ottoman Parliament, negotiating with Russia's interim government following the Russian Revolution, and assuming the role of Ambassador to the USA during the First Republic were among his notable contributions.

Armen Garo was also actively involved in Operation Bank Ottoman, which sought to bring attention to the Armenian cause from European powers.

On this day, we remember this revolutionary statesman and political activist, who is also known as Karekin Pastermadjian.

Fallen serviceman Vitaly Abaghyan’s son recounts his final days in Artsakh leading up to the mass exodus. He remembers the moment he learned of his father’s death and, despite the difficult circumstances, took his father’s car—which wasn’t functioning properly—and drove to Armenia.

Vitaly Abaghyan’s family is among those who recently received a home through the Lorik Humanitarian Fund.

To support more families of fallen servicemen from Martuni, Artsakh, consider donating to help continue the Lorik Fund’s work.
UPDATE: The Armenian Community in Rome confirmed that the Colosseum Archaeological Park has corrected a geographical map in the “Göbeklitepe: The Enigma of a Sacred Place” exhibition to properly indicate Armenia’s location.

In a letter from the Park’s Secretariat, officials provided confirmation and a photo of the update. The Armenian Community expressed gratitude to the Italian Ministry of Culture for its responsiveness and commitment to historical accuracy.
It is regrettable to hear such irresponsible statements about Artsakh and the people of Artsakh from an official holding the highly responsible position of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Such short-sighted and ambitious remarks not only fail to contribute to solving the existing issues in national life and ensuring the national unity that we so desperately need, but, on the contrary, they further deepen the artificially implanted lines of division within our people. This was stated in a declaration by the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

“Moreover, for people with spiritual vision and understanding, the true reasons behind such behavior are clearly visible. The greatest sin of the first humans in Paradise was not the eating of the forbidden fruit, but shifting the blame onto others and refusing to repent when questioned by God. This phenomenon has been present throughout human history, and overcoming it is only possible through the path of Christianity, which teaches us first and foremost to see our own sins and take responsibility for our actions.

After the 44-day Artsakh War, the 9-month blockade of Artsakh, and the forced displacement in 2023, a destructive tendency to shift blame and responsibility away from oneself has unfortunately taken root among a significant part of our people. This has been fueled by numerous short-sighted and divisive statements made at the highest levels, and the latest statement by the Speaker of the National Assembly is merely a continuation of this approach.

We do not find it necessary to once again elaborate on the heroic resistance shown by our people, who endured the hardships of the 9-month blockade on September 19, 2023, because, according to the Holy Scriptures: ‘Whoever has eyes to see will see,’ and those who refuse to see reality will never see it. But the greatest pain is that those who know the truth best, who officially refused to help Artsakh in 2023, do not hesitate to distort reality once again, continuously pouring salt on the unhealed wounds of Artsakh Armenians who have lost their homeland, while also disregarding the sacrifice of the hundreds of our fallen sons in 2023.

We pray that God grants wisdom to our people so that nothing and no one becomes a cause of artificial tension and intolerance towards one another. The stronger love, forgiveness, and unity grow in our homeland, the sooner all our cherished hopes and dreams will come true—something we are certain is the desire of every Armenian,” the statement concludes.
Producer and political activist Ruben Mkhitaryan has announced his candidacy for mayor of Gyumri in the upcoming elections on March 30, 2025.

"In the Gyumri elections, the current authorities should not succeed," he stated in a video message, emphasizing his willingness to cooperate with other candidates who share his stance.

Armenian law does not provide for primary elections, making this an unprecedented move based solely on Nikol Pashinyan’s declaration that the winner would be appointed interim mayor.

New photos circulating online reveal that the Azerbaijani side has damaged the altar of Tsitsernavank, a historic Armenian church.

According to monumentwatch.org, images show that the holy table and cross pedestal inside the altar have been broken. This follows a previous act of desecration in 2023, when the church’s excavation site was also damaged.

Since December 2020, when the Kashatagh region of Artsakh surrendered to Azerbaijani control, Tsitsernavank has become a target of Azerbaijani propaganda, particularly by the so-called Aghvan-Udi community. Despite this, reports indicate that the church continues to suffer repeated acts of vandalism and destruction.

The damage threatens the integrity of the historic structure. The UNESCO 36th expert meeting emphasized that heritage integrity is defined by its ability to preserve its historical and cultural significance over time. According to international preservation guidelines, any changes that alter a heritage site’s defining characteristics pose a serious threat to its authenticity and preservation.

This latest act of destruction raises further concerns about cultural heritage protection in regions under Azerbaijani occupation.

It has been revealed that the translator in Ruben Vardanyan’s trial has been incorrectly translating hundreds of case files. As a result, an objection was raised by Ruben's team.

On Thursday, the Baku Military Court of Azerbaijan continued the trial against Ruben Vardanyan and other former Artsakh officials. His case is being handled separately and will continue on February 10, while the hearings for other Artsakh officials resume today. According to Azerbaijani media, excerpts from the indictments were presented, and former Artsakh President Arayik Harutyunyan and Foreign Minister David Babayan were allowed to speak.

In an interview with NEWS.am, lawyer Siranush Sahakyan, who represents Armenian prisoners of war at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), shared details about Ruben Vardanyan’s trial. The information came from his local lawyer, Avraam Berman, who passed it on to Vardanyan’s family.

"We have received some details about Ruben Vardanyan’s trial through his lawyer Avraam Berman. During the hearing, the defense attorney raised two objections, one of them about the translator. It turned out that the case file consists of 422 case files in Azerbaijani, and the translator failed to provide even a proper oral translation. Since written translations and even notes are not allowed, the oral translation was critical—but the translator made serious mistakes. In some sections, the case even referenced Belarusian law instead of Azerbaijani law," Sahakyan explained.

She added that the court ordered Ruben Vardanyan and his lawyer to arrange for a proper translation themselves—a demand made only during the third hearing, when the trial was already well underway.

Additionally, all requests from the defense to obtain copies of the case files and review video evidence were denied. "Naturally, Azerbaijani media have not reported on these violations," Sahakyan noted.

As for the statements made by Arayik Harutyunyan and David Babayan, Sahakyan emphasized that they were clearly made under pressure. "These testimonies do not sound credible for any international specialist," she said.

From the excerpts of the indictment that have been made public, it is clear that the real goal of this trial is to deny Artsakh’s right to self-determination and erase any legal basis for it. "They [Azerbaijan] are trying to present all of this as a ‘criminal operation to seize territories,’" Sahakyan added.

The National Assembly passed the draft law on Armenia’s accession to the EU.

With 63 votes in favor, 7 against, and 0 abstentions, the National Assembly (NA) passed the draft law on Armenia’s accession to the European Union (EU). The Civil Contract faction voted in favor of the bill.

It should be noted that discussions on adopting the bill to initiate the EU accession process began in the NA yesterday.

As a reminder, on January 9, the Armenian government approved this draft law.

The adoption of the bill does not mean immediate EU membership, as this issue would require a referendum. Following its approval, discussions with the European Union will be needed to develop a roadmap for the accession process.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan clarified that the draft law itself is a public initiative that has gathered the necessary number of signatures.
Nardò, Italy, is set to celebrate its patron saint, San Gregorio (Gregory the Illuminator, the founder and first official head of the Armenian Apostolic Church), with a week of religious and cultural events from February 13 to 22. The Settenario will open the festivities, bringing the city’s Confraternities together at the Cathedral Basilica.

A highlight will be the inauguration of the cathedral’s historic polyphonic organ on February 15, restored after decades of disuse. The celebrations culminate on February 19 with a Solemn Pontifical Mass led by Cardinal Dominique Mamberti and Bishop Fernando Filograna, followed by a grand procession.

On February 20, a ceremony in Piazza Salandra will commemorate the victims of the 1743 earthquake. The festival will also feature a fair, light displays, and concerts, including a Candlelight evening at the Municipal Theater (February 18) and a performance by the Tebaide d’Italia Symphony Orchestra (February 20).

The festivities conclude on February 22 with a concert by Antonio Castrignanò & Taranta Sounds on Via Grassi.
Azatutyun, also known as Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) in Armenia, is one of the most popular news channels in the country, particularly on YouTube. Fully funded by the U.S. Congress, it dominates the media landscape with vast resources, shaping public discourse in Armenia. While its coverage is extensive, its bias is evident—especially in its support for Nikol Pashinyan’s government.

Azatutyun played a crucial role in the 2018 protests that led to Pashinyan’s rise, providing round-the-clock coverage that far exceeded that of local outlets. This selective reporting aligned with foreign interests, particularly those of the U.S., which has historically influenced political outcomes in Armenia.

Beyond its political stance, Azatutyun has been criticized for undermining Armenia’s national identity. It has referred to Armenians in Artsakh as "occupiers" and has placed "Armenian Genocide" in quotes, casting doubt on established historical truths. These editorial choices contribute to a broader effort to reshape Armenian narratives in ways that serve external agendas.

As Armenia faces existential threats after the loss of Artsakh, Azatutyun’s reporting continues to spark concerns. Instead of addressing the country’s immediate challenges, it often revisits past negotiations, diverting attention from pressing issues. This pattern raises questions about its role in shaping Armenia’s future at a time when national unity is critical.

Azatutyun is more than just a media outlet—it is a key player in Armenia’s information war. With its selective coverage and foreign backing, it influences political outcomes and public perception in ways that do not always align with Armenia’s sovereignty and interests.
