It is regrettable to hear such irresponsible statements about Artsakh and the people of Artsakh from an official holding the highly responsible position of the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Such short-sighted and ambitious remarks not only fail to contribute to solving the existing issues in national life and ensuring the national unity that we so desperately need, but, on the contrary, they further deepen the artificially implanted lines of division within our people. This was stated in a declaration by the Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church.
“Moreover, for people with spiritual vision and understanding, the true reasons behind such behavior are clearly visible. The greatest sin of the first humans in Paradise was not the eating of the forbidden fruit, but shifting the blame onto others and refusing to repent when questioned by God. This phenomenon has been present throughout human history, and overcoming it is only possible through the path of Christianity, which teaches us first and foremost to see our own sins and take responsibility for our actions.
After the 44-day Artsakh War, the 9-month blockade of Artsakh, and the forced displacement in 2023, a destructive tendency to shift blame and responsibility away from oneself has unfortunately taken root among a significant part of our people. This has been fueled by numerous short-sighted and divisive statements made at the highest levels, and the latest statement by the Speaker of the National Assembly is merely a continuation of this approach.
We do not find it necessary to once again elaborate on the heroic resistance shown by our people, who endured the hardships of the 9-month blockade on September 19, 2023, because, according to the Holy Scriptures: ‘Whoever has eyes to see will see,’ and those who refuse to see reality will never see it. But the greatest pain is that those who know the truth best, who officially refused to help Artsakh in 2023, do not hesitate to distort reality once again, continuously pouring salt on the unhealed wounds of Artsakh Armenians who have lost their homeland, while also disregarding the sacrifice of the hundreds of our fallen sons in 2023.
We pray that God grants wisdom to our people so that nothing and no one becomes a cause of artificial tension and intolerance towards one another. The stronger love, forgiveness, and unity grow in our homeland, the sooner all our cherished hopes and dreams will come true—something we are certain is the desire of every Armenian,” the statement concludes.
