Syrian Democratic Forces Hand Over Kurdish-Majority Neighborhoods in Aleppo to Damascus
The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have handed over the Kurdish-majority neighborhoods of Al-Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo to the Syrian government. This transfer follows an agreement between the local civil council and a presidential committee, officially recognizing these neighborhoods as part of Aleppo under its administrative jurisdiction. The agreement is temporary, pending a long-term resolution from central committees.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Syrian Interior Ministry will oversee security in the area, with its forces being the only armed presence allowed. Kurdish military forces are set to withdraw, taking their weapons to the eastern Euphrates region. Additionally, both sides have agreed to release detainees and exchange prisoners captured since the fall of the previous regime.
