Ohio Democrats have introduced a bill that would fine straight cisgender men for ejaculating without intent to conceive.

The Conception Begins at Erection Act, proposed by Democratic State Representatives Anita Somani and Tristan Rader, would impose a $1,000 fine for a first offense, $5,000 for a second offense, and $10,000 for any subsequent offense to "discharge semen or genetic material without intent to fertilize an embryo."

The bill contains exceptions for men using birth control, donating sperm, masturbating, or having sex with another man or member of the LGBTQ+ community that won't "produce ova." It is specifically aimed at men having straight sex without protection and without intent to have a baby.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro said during a government meeting that cocaine is “not worse than whiskey” and that it's only illegal because it comes from Latin America.

Colombia, the world's largest producer and exporter of cocaine, has spent decades fighting drug trafficking, but the country's left-wing president claimed the drug was being scapegoated by American politicians, who have waged the war on drugs for decades.

“Cocaine is illegal because it is made in Latin America, not because it is worse than whiskey,” Petro said during a six-hour-long government meeting.

“Scientists have analyzed this: cocaine is not worse than whiskey,” he added, suggesting that the global cocaine industry could be “easily dismantled” if the drug was legalized worldwide.

“If somebody wants peace, the business [of drug trafficking] has to be dismantled,” Petro said. “It could be easily dismantled if they legalized cocaine in the world. It would be sold like wine.”

By contrast, Petro pointed out that fentanyl, a contributor to the opioid crisis in the United States, “is killing Americans, but it's not made in Colombia.”

“Fentanyl was created as a pharmacy drug by North American multinationals" and those who used it “became addicted,” he added.

Mexico is pushing back hard against U.S. plans to label its cartels as terrorist groups. President Claudia Sheinbaum warned that if Washington goes through with the designation, U.S. gunmakers could face fresh lawsuits as accomplices to organized crime. Her argument? The majority of firearms used by Mexico’s cartels come from the United States, and if cartels are considered terrorists, then gun manufacturers supplying them should be held accountable.

The warning comes as the U.S. State Department reportedly plans to classify criminal groups from Mexico, Colombia, El Salvador, and Venezuela as terrorist organizations, following an executive order signed by Donald Trump. Mexico, already under pressure from Trump to curb drug smuggling, argues that the real problem is weapons trafficking in the other direction.

A previous $10 billion lawsuit against U.S. gunmakers was dismissed, but Mexico hasn’t backed down. It continues legal action against Smith & Wesson and Interstate Arms and is also targeting Arizona gun dealers for supplying weapons used in cross-border crimes.

Sheinbaum recently fired back at U.S. accusations that her government is allied with cartels, calling them “slander” and pointing the finger at American gun stores instead. Meanwhile, tensions between the two countries have escalated, with Trump threatening 25% tariffs on Mexican and Canadian goods due to immigration and drug trafficking concerns—though the tariffs are temporarily on hold.

With drug-related violence having claimed nearly half a million lives in Mexico since 2006, Sheinbaum is making it clear: if the U.S. brands cartels as terrorists, it must also take responsibility for the weapons fueling the violence.
