Homeland Security attorneys admit that warrants are needed to make an arrest even with ICE, but claim that Khalil was a flight risk and therefore did not have time to get a warrant.

If they can do this to LEGAL permanent residents of the U.S., they will soon be doing it to U.S. Citizens as well, as Trump even admits that this is what they want to do.

The Trump administration conceded on Thursday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents did not have a warrant when they detained Columbia University activist Mahmoud Khalil in March, acknowledging it was a "warrantless arrest."
Khalil's attorneys are asking an immigration judge in Louisiana, where their client has been detained by ICE for weeks, to terminate his deportation case based on the fact that he was arrested without a warrant.
The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE, admitted in a court filing that immigration agents typically need warrants before arresting individuals. But it argued that Khalil was arrested without a warrant due to "exigent circumstances," alleging that agents believed the Columbia activist would "escape before they could obtain a warrant."
Khalil's lawyers denied that he had any plans to flee, saying in their own court filing that their client "fully complied" with the ICE agents' demands.
"Tellingly, no agent present at the scene has ever submitted sworn or unsworn testimony that Mr. Khalil attempted to flee or otherwise posed a flight risk," Khalil's lawyers wrote in a court document.
A vocal member of the protests at Columbia University last year over the war in Gaza, Khalil is a Syrian-born immigrant with legal U.S. permanent residency — also known as a green card. He was arrested in early March by ICE, outside of his New York City apartment, where he lived with his U.S. citizen wife, who was pregnant at the time.
Khalil was not able to witness the birth of his son earlier this week, after ICE denied a request for him to be temporarily released.
One of several foreign-born students arrested by ICE in recent months, Khalil has become one of the most high-profile faces of the Trump administration's efforts to go after those on college campuses who have participated in pro-Palestinian protests.
The Trump administration has argued its efforts are designed to curb anti-semitism and pro-Hamas views at universities, but civil rights groups have accused the government of punishing students purely for their political beliefs, in violation of the First Amendment.

Two young German women say their dream holiday turned into a nightmare after they were detained, interrogated, and deported by US authorities shortly after landing in Hawaii.
Charlotte Pohl, 19, and Maria Lepere, 18, flew into Honolulu with plans to explore the island before continuing on to California and Costa Rica. However, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers flagged the pair when they revealed they had no hotel bookings or fixed itinerary for their five-week stay.
According to reports, the two women were accused of intending to work illegally and were held in custody overnight. They were allegedly strip searched, subjected to full-body scans, dressed in green prison uniforms, and forced to sleep on mouldy mattresses in a deportation holding centre.
Germany's Foreign Office later issued a reminder to citizens that even with an ESTA travel authorisation, entry into the United States is not guaranteed. Immigration officers retain full discretion at the border.
Their ordeal is not isolated. Canadian actress Jasmine Mooney, 35, was detained for nearly two weeks by US immigration officials in March after attempting to enter the US from Mexico. She claimed the experience was akin to being 'kidnapped' and held in 'cold and crowded' cells, describing the conditions as 'unjust' in an interview with ABC10.
Similarly, Lucas Sielaff, 25, a German national travelling with his American fiancée, was detained for 16 days after allegedly violating terms of his tourist permit. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that?"
Shortly after saying this, he put his teaching into action, with an encounter of a Roman military commander, Israel's enemy. This Roman officer came to Jesus and asked him to heal his servant, as he recognized the authority that Jesus had.
Jesus replied that he had never seen such faith among the Jews living in Israel, and he healed the commander's servant.

We have already seen what kind of people this Administration is classifying as "criminals" and "terrorists," including teenage girls here on tourist visas, and Fulbright Scholars here on student visas who dare to say anything about the plight of Palestinians and are then labeled "antisemitic."
American citizens cannot legally be deported, not even convicted criminals. So a blatant disregard for the U.S. Constitution is the only way he will get away with this, by declaring some kind of "emergency" to give himself "emergency powers."

Guess what? Canadians are staying away too. In droves. Airline bookings are down by more than 70% for the upcoming crucial summer travel season.
In fact, travel and tourism is a huge part of the services economy, supporting some 9.5 million American jobs. The U.S. Commerce Department’s International Trade Association (ITA), which provided the data, adds that the industry contributed $2.3 trillion to the U.S. economy in 2022. The ITA reports that travel and tourism is the largest single services export for the United States, accounting for 22% of the country’s services exports and 7% of all exports in 2023.
So when Trump insults — even threatens — friends around the globe because of his obsession with one part of the U.S. economy, it hurts other parts.

Trump Wants to Abolish the 4th and 5th Amendments
Trump lied today, claiming that the Supreme Court was prohibiting him from "removing criminals from our country" who "came here illegally."
But most of the ones he has seized for deportation have been here LEGALLY, on student visas and in some cases Green Card permanent residences, and their only "crime" was to criticize Israel's actions in Gaza.
As to detaining them and deporting them without a trial, that is a protection afforded by the 4th and 5th Amendments of the Bill of Rights. He is trying to go around that by using an old "War Times" Act that was last used to lock up Japanese Americans in concentration camps here in the U.S. during WW II.
He's NOT rounding up many illegal undocumented migrants, because they are the ones working on our farms and in our factories.
Is this really what Americans want and voted for? To strip search teenage German girls and lock them away when they came on a valid tourist visa for a vacation in Hawaii?

As to detaining them and deporting them without a trial, that is a protection afforded by the 4th and 5th Amendments of the Bill of Rights. He is trying to go around that by using an old "War Times" Act that was last used to lock up Japanese Americans in concentration camps here in the U.S. during WW II.
He's NOT rounding up many illegal undocumented migrants, because they are the ones working on our farms and in our factories.

U.S. Supreme Court Issues Emergency Stop on Trump Deportations to El Salvador
The U.S. Supreme Court this morning has ordered the Trump Administration to stop deportations to El Salvador.

The U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling early Saturday morning blocking, at least for now, the deportations of any Venezuelans held in northern Texas under an 18th century wartime law.
The justices instructed the Trump administration not to remove Venezuelans held in Texas' Bluebonnet Detention Center "until further order of this court."
The Alien Enemies Act has only been invoked three previous times in U.S. history, with the most recent being during World War II to hold Japanese-American civilians in internment camps.
