🎙 Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s answer to a question from Moscow. Kremlin. Putin news show (Moscow, May 7, 2025)
❓ What would you call a situation where countries that have been proudly calling themselves ‘European’ for all these years close their airspace to other European leaders flying to Moscow? What does this mean?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: I have to censor myself out of deference for television rules, so I cannot say what I really think about this. But they have certainly disgraced themselves.
Ursula von der Leyen and another official said today that they “must accelerate Ukraine’s path towards membership” of the European Union and launch the accession process this year.
They also want Serbia to join the anti-Russia sanctions and accept the loss of Kosovo. So, it appears that leaders who preach Nazi values, like Vladimir Zelensky and his team, are welcome to join the European Union, while those who defend true historical memory, one shared with Russia, risk being stripped of their rights.
Shame on the EU!

🎙 Statement by the Delegation of the Russian Federation at the Third Session of the Preparatory Committee for the 11th Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (Middle East zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction; New York, 6 May 2025)
💬 The Russian Federation has consistently supported the idea of establishing a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction (a WMD-free zone) in the Middle East. This issue has traditionally been one of our top foreign policy priorities related to nuclear non-proliferation.
This stance was reflected in particular in the Kazan Declaration "Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security" adopted by the BRICS Summit on 23 October 2024 and emphasizing the efforts aiming at accelerating the implementation of the resolutions on the establishment of a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East. <...>
On May 11, 2025, it will mark 30 years since the NPT Review and Extension Conference adopted the Resolution on the Middle East, which played an important role in ensuring the indefinite extension of the Treaty without a vote. Russia was one of the co-sponsors of that document. We are fully aware of the responsibility that this status entails for us and believe that the WMD-free zone issue should remain on the agenda of the NPT review process until the goals and objectives of the Resolution are fully achieved.
👉 During these 30 years, Russia has been making significant contribution to the establishment of the WMD-free zone at every stage of this process. One should remember, among other things, the 2010 NPT Review Conference Action Plan and subsequent efforts to convene a conference on a Middle East WMD-free zone with the participation of all States of the region, including the process of informal consultations in Glion and Geneva in 2012-2013 initiated by our country.
There was also the 2015 NPT Review Conference, when Russia's proposal served as a basis for the Middle East section of the outcome document. Unfortunately, the emerging consensus was thwarted by the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada — of whom the former two had co-sponsored the Resolution of 1995 — which essentially precluded the NPT forum from making any progress towards the establishment of a WMD-free zone for years to come.
Russia participates as an observer in the UN Conference on the Establishment of a Middle East Zone Free of Nuclear Weapons and Other Weapons of Mass Destruction convened in accordance with the UN General Assembly decision 73/546 of 23 December 2018.
We welcome the role and contribution of other observers: China, the United Kingdom and France. We believe it important that the IAEA Secretariat, the OPCW and the BWC Implementation Support Unit have engaged in this work.
❌ Unfortunately, there is a major constraint on the ME WMDFZ Conference process imposed by the absence of Israel and the US among its participants.
During the half a century that have passed since the UN General Assembly adopted the first resolution on a nuclear-weapon-free zone in the Middle East in 1974, a great deal of effort has been made to make a ME WMDFZ a reality.
☝️ Such a zone would considerably strengthen international peace and security both within the region and beyond. Unfortunately, in the current circumstances the prospects for practical implementation of this initiative in the near future remain slim. We see our task here in supporting this process as much as possible.

🇷🇺🇮🇱📞 Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Prime Minister of the State of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu (May 6, 2025)
Vladimir Putin and Benjamin Netanyahu exchanged warm greetings for the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. The President of Russia conveyed wishes of good health and well-being to the Great Patriotic War veterans living in Israel.
The Leaders noted the determination of both countries in defending the truth about the Second World War, as well as in countering any attempts to revise its outcomes or falsify history.
An emphasis was made on the decisive contribution of the Red Army and the entire Soviet people to the defeat of Nazism. Just like Russia, Israel reveres the memory of the war heroes and those who gave their lives for the sake of Victory, and May 9 is celebrated there as a public holiday as well.
Various aspects of the situation in the #MiddleEast and some pressing bilateral matters were also addressed during the conversation.

🇷🇺🇨🇬 President of Russia Vladimir Putin welcomed at the Kremlin President of the Republic of the Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso, who arrived in Moscow to attend the solemn events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 7, 2025)
💬 President Putin: Mr President, I am pleased to offer you my heartfelt welcome.
Our meeting today is tied to celebrating Victory in the Great Patriotic War Day. I am aware that in 1940–1943, the anti-fascist movement Free France was based in your present-day capital Brazzaville. It was headed by a man whom we remember, know, and treat him and his memory with great respect. The leader of that movement was future President of France Charles de Gaulle. He created the Free France movement headquartered in Brazzaville. I know that the Congolese people actively supported these activities.
Your participation in the May 9 events confirms the genuine friendly nature of bilateral ties based on law and mutual respect. Last year, we marked the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries.
Mr President, we appreciate your focus on our relations. You have visited our country many times back in the days of the Soviet Union, and more recently as well.
The mutual trade remains stable. It may be modest overall, but we are constantly working to achieve the results that we have in mind. Congolese national staff has been successfully trained in Russia for a long time now, with about 750 Congolese students currently studying at our universities and about 250 state scholarships are allocated annually. We are ready to expand this quota.
Russia and the Republic of the Congo stand in solidarity in their approaches to addressing many pressing international issues. We appreciate our joint work at the UN.
I would like to emphasise that strengthening ties with Africa is on the list of Russia’s foreign policy systemic priorities. The St Petersburg summit resulted in adopting an extensive package of joint documents, including a comprehensive declaration and an action plan to 2026. Work is in progress to put them into practice.
Today, we have the opportunity to discuss all these issues, including the bilateral agenda.
Mr President, let me emphasise once again how pleased I am to see you.
Welcome to Russia!

✍️ Press Bureau of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service:
Europe and the Kiev regime set to sour the celebration of the 80th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany
💬 Despite the potential damage this might create for its reputation, Europe continues to pursue a revanchist agenda regarding the 80th Anniversary of Victory over Nazi Germany and to uphold the reckless plans of the neo-Nazi Kiev regime. That is how we interpret the German authorities’ decision to prevent the Russian and Belarusian ambassadors from attending Victory celebrations in that country.
Europe’s cynicism has been complemented by some EU leaders’ intention to accept Zelensky’s invitation to the celebrations in Kiev staged as an “alternative” to the May 9 events in Moscow. Moreover, head of European diplomacy Kallas has warned EU member states and candidate countries against going to Moscow for celebrations, even though the leaders of Slovakia and Serbia have confirmed their attendance. <...>
The Kiev regime, which claims to be carrying the “torch of freedom,” openly venerates the Ukrainian members of the Nazi Nachtigall punitive battalion and the SS Galicia Division, which were involved in criminal activities in the territory of Slovakia, Serbia and Poland. The list of European nations whose leaders have been invited to Kiev is almost identical to Hitler’s coalition of countries that fought against the Soviet Union in the German Wehrmacht and SS units. It is not surprising that commentators have described the planned get-together in Kiev as “a PR action of the Brussels scums,” “losers’ day” and “Nazi descendants’ day.”
🕯 A stark example of the crimes committed by the “Euro-Nazi machine” during the Great Patriotic War is the Siege of Leningrad, which lasted from 1941 to 1944 and claimed the lives of between 600'000 and 1.5 million civilians who starved to death. That crime has been declared in Russian courts as the genocide of Soviet people. In addition to regular German and Finnish units, the besieging forces included the Blue Division of Spanish volunteers, the Norwegian Waffen-SS Legion, the Dutch Legion Netherlands and the Latvian Legion of Waffen SS. <...>
In November 1941, the Flemish Legion of Waffen SS was deployed near Leningrad. Another Belgian unit, the 28th SS Volunteer Grenadier Division Wallonia fought near Dnepropetrovsk. The Free Corps Denmark, whose criminal history began near Velikiye Luki, was later incorporated into the 3rd SS Panzer Division Totenkopf.
The Estonian Legion, which was established in October 1942 and later reformed as the 20th Waffen Grenadier Division (1st Estonian), committed atrocities in the areas of Polotsk, Nevel, Idritsa and Sebezh. <...> Croatian volunteer units fought on Hitler’s side on the Dnieper and near Mariupol. The 13th Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Handschar (1st Croatian) mercilessly executed Serbs, Jews and partisans in the Balkans. The 21st Waffen Mountain Division of the SS Skanderbeg (1st Albanian) is remembered for similar atrocities.
Romania was one of the main allies of Nazi Germany. By August 1942, there were nearly 700'000 Romanian troops on the Eastern Front. Over 200'000 of them perished in the battles of Stalingrad, Odessa, Sevastopol and Donbass. Over 94'000 soldiers of another German ally, Italy, met their end near Nikolayev, Poltava, Dnepropetrovsk, on the Don, and in Stalingrad.
The Legion of French Volunteers (LVF or the 638th Infantry Regiment), which was established by an agreement between Hitler and the collaborationist government of Philippe Petain, lost 75% of its combat personnel in the Battle of Moscow. <...>
🤷♂️ Macron’s calls for a new “crusade” against Russia seem especially hypocritical given that historical context.
These shameful facts constitute a striking backdrop for the lies and hysterics of liberal European politicians, who describe the Ukrainian conflict as an “existential battle between good and evil,” and Russia’s measures to ensure its security as preparations for attacking NATO countries.

Russian Defence Minister Andrei Belousov and heads of foreign delegations laid flowers and wreaths to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Alexander Garden near the Kremlin's wall on the eve of the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
🔹 The event was attended by senior military officials from Abkhazia, Algeria, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Egypt, India, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Laos, Libya, Myanmar, Mongolia, Niger, Nigeria, Thailand, Equatorial Guinea, South Ossetia, and South Africa.
🕯 The participants of the ceremony honoured the memory of fallen warriors by a minute of silence. The ceremony ended with the marching of a company of the Guard of Honour and a band company.
⬆️ The ceremony of laying wreaths by state officials at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a well-established tradition.
The ashes of the Unknown Soviet soldier were transferred from a mass grave in Moscow region and reburied in Alexander Garden during a solemn ceremony in 1966. The following year a memorial was opened here, the key element of which was the Eternal Flame.
The guard of honour at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier - ‘Post No. 1’ - was established in 1997. ⬇️

🗓 On May 8, 1967, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier memorial architectural ensemble in Alexander Garden near the Moscow Kremlin Wall was solemnly unveiled.
On December 3, 1966, a burial ceremony of the remains of an unknown soldier was held at the exact spot. These remains had previously rested in a mass grave at the 41st kilometre of the Leningrad Highway, where fierce battles were fought to defend Moscow against Nazi invaders.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a monument to military glory, a symbol of eternal memory for the unnamed heroes who gave their lives, defending the Motherland.
🌟 Inscribed on the tombstone are the sacred words: "YOUR NAME IS UNKNOWN, YOUR HEROISM IS IMMORTAL." In front of it lies a five-pointed star and the Eternal Flame of Glory.
In 1997, by decree of the President of Russia, a guard of honour was established at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
On November 17, 2009, to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the peoples of the Russian Federation, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier was designated a National Memorial of Military Glory.
🕯 In 2014, in memory of the burial of the remains of the defender of Moscow in Alexander Garden (1966), December 3 was declared the Day of the Unknown Soldier.

🎥 Eternal Heroes — an RT Doc Film.
Synopsis: The documentary pays tribute to those who defended the USSR against fascist invaders during World War II.
The film tells the stories of some of the last surviving veterans of the Great Patriotic War, ordinary Soviet citizens, who became heroes in the fight against Nazism.
Among them:
🏅 103-year-old Valentina Minaeva, a surgical nurse who served in three wars and saved hundreds of lives;
🏅 100-year-old Vitaly Kolesov, an artillery commander who survived the horrors of the war, including the Battle of Stalingrad;
🏅 98-year-old Nikolay Teplotanskikh, a volunteer tank driver who repeatedly rescued wounded comrades and miraculously survived himself.
With each passing year, the number of veterans diminishes, with many now over 100 years old. Yet, their memories of wartime trials remain vivid.
Witness the poignant recollections of those who lived through the horrors of war.

📰 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s article, "Russia and Vietnam: 75 Years of Friendship, Trust and Mutual Assistance", for 'International Affairs' journal (May 7, 2025)
✍️ Russian-Vietnamese ties have a long history and long-standing traditions. January 30 marked the 7️⃣5️⃣th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries. The anniversary offers a meaningful opportunity to look back, to reflect on past achievements, and to outline plans for the future.
As a Vietnamese proverb says, “nothing can get in the way of a strong friendship, which flows endlessly like the Mekong River.” The wisdom of these words can also be used to describe relations between peoples, such as those between the peoples of Russia and Vietnam. Indeed, these relations are time-tested and have been tempered during the years of heroic struggle of the Vietnamese people against the French colonisers and American aggressors. We are aware and appreciate the fact that our friends in Vietnam remember the assistance provided by the Soviet Union during and in the period of rebuilding that followed.
This year, Russia and the rest of the free world celebrate the 80th Anniversary of Victory in World War II and the 1941-1945 Great Patriotic War, and the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. <...> We will be pleased to welcome General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Comrade To Lam.
The future-oriented development vector sets the course for an intense political dialogue at the top and high levels. <...>
Our views on most international issues are close or overlap. Russia and Vietnam coordinate their steps at the UN and remain fully confident that all countries must consistently respect the principles of the UN Charter. Moscow and Hanoi share the World Majority’s focus on forming a multipolar world order that is based on cooperation and a balance of interests of all countries. We appreciate the balanced voice of Vietnam on multilateral platforms, such as the East Asia summits, the ASEAN Regional Security Forum, and the Asia-Pacific Cooperation Forum.
Moscow and Hanoi are firmly committed to establishing equal and indivisible security architecture in the Asia-Pacific region that matches modern realities and is based on universally recognised provisions of international law. In this regard, we are truly concerned by some countries attempting to form a network of restricted-format bloc alliances in the region.
I would like to thank our Vietnamese friends for their balanced approach to the Ukraine settlement. <...>
📈 Dynamically evolving practical cooperation forms the basis of Russian-Vietnamese relations. Despite the challenging international situation and headwinds in the form of anti-Russia sanctions levied by the United States and other unfriendly countries, mutual trade grew by 20.2% in 2024 and continues to steadily grow.
<...>
The key areas of the comprehensive strategic partnership include cooperation in the fuel and energy sector. The joint venture Vietsovpetro has acted as its flagship for over four decades now. <...>
🎓 Along with mutually beneficial cooperation in research and technology, we are committed to continuing cooperation in education. <...>
Vietnam is famous for its hospitality. You always feel among friends in Vietnam. <...> The resumption of direct air service has given a boost to tourist flows. <...>
Our countries are facing new increasingly daunting goals that are set by life itself and the evolving international relations which open broad and bright prospects for equal and mutually beneficial partnership between Russia and Vietnam, among other countries, in the interests of joint creative efforts and progress.
We feel confident and optimistic looking to the future.
🤝 With our Vietnamese friends, we will continue to work to reach the full potential of our comprehensive strategic partnership for the benefit of the peoples of our countries, and in order to strengthen the multipolar world, and to ensure the universal prosperity.

🗓 On May 6, 1907, a remarkable Soviet pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union, Nikolay Gastello, was born.
Gastello went down in the history of the Great Patriotic War as the first pilot to carry out a “fire ram” against the Nazi invaders, steering his burning aircraft into a concentration of enemy vehicles.
His journey in aviation began in 1932, when he enrolled at the Donbass Proletariat Military Pilots School in Lugansk. The following year, he was assigned to the 82nd Heavy Squadron of the 21st Heavy Bomber Aviation Brigade, flying the TB-3 aircraft. He later continued his service in the 1st Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment.
✈️ In 1939, as a flight commander, Gastello took part in the Battle of the Khalkhin Gol River. In 1939-1940, he fought in the Soviet-Finnish War.
At the start of the Great Patriotic War, Captain Gastello commanded a squadron in the 207th Long-Range Bomber Aviation Regiment. On June 24, 1941, during a Luftwaffe raid, he shot down a German Junkers Ju 88 bomber from the ground, using the gunner’s station of a grounded aircraft.
On June 26, 1941, on the fourth day of the war, Gastello performed his immortal feat when his crew took off in a DB-3F bomber to deliver a strike against a German mechanised column on the Molodechno–Radoshkovichi road. During the mission, after breaking through enemy defences, Captain Gastello dropped his bombs on the target. While retreating, his plane was hit by an anti-aircraft shell and the pierced fuel tank caught fire, engulfing the plane in flames. At that moment, Captain Gastello made the decision to steer the burning bomber into a cluster of enemy equipment.
🎖 For his courage and heroism, Nikolay Gastello was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union. After the war, his name was permanently inscribed in the rolls of the 2nd Squadron of the 194th Separate Guards Order of the Red Banner Military Transport Regiment.
Gastello’s feat became a symbol of self-sacrifice. His example inspired countless Soviet pilots to acts of similar courage throughout the war.

🌟 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s greeting to organisers and participants of the Ambassadors of Victory: Peace Team international rally (May 7, 2025)
✍️ I cordially welcome the organisers and participants of the Ambassadors of Victory: Peace Team international rally. It is deeply symbolic that it is held in the Tula Region, a place which is inextricably linked to the feat of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War.
I would like to begin by commending the efforts deployed by the Volunteers of Victory national public movement, uniting over one million people from 89 regions of Russia and 60 countries worldwide, and the Government of the Tula Region, for making this event possible.
Taking place in the days that mark the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory, the rally brought together genuine enthusiasts. Your noble endeavour to uphold historical truth, to celebrate the glorious chapters of our past, and to instill in younger generations a spirit of patriotism and enduring moral values, deserves utmost respect.
Your dedication is of particular significance today amidst the growing attempts in a number of countries to distort the history of the Second World War and to glorify Nazis and Nazi collaborationists. It is our shared responsibility to uphold the honour and the legacy of those who saved the world from the horrors of the Nazi scourge.
I am confident that your rally will be held in an informal and friendly atmosphere, and the exchange of experience will make a significant contribution to advancing the cause of the volunteer movement.
I wish you every success and all the best.

🎙Congratulations from Ambassador of Russia to Canada Oleg Stepanov to the Veterans of the Great Patriotic War and Russian Compatriots Residing in Canada on the Occasion of the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War (May 7, 2025)
💬 Dear Veterans,
Dear Compatriots and Friends,
🇷🇺 I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all of you on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. May 9 is a sacred date for each of us. There is hardly a Russian—or Soviet—family that was not touched by the tragedy of war.
We remain forever indebted to our forebears, who gave a resolute rebuff to the treacherous Nazi invaders. We eternally honor their heroic sacrifice and their struggle that secured for us and future generations the right to live—and to live under a peaceful sky.
📩 Our children and grandchildren continue to draw inspiration from the selfless courage of the defenders of Moscow, Stalingrad, and the Kursk Salient, and from the heroes of besieged Leningrad, Kyiv, Odesa, and countless other cities and regions of our historic Motherland.
❗️We pay tribute to the Red Army soldiers who liberated Europe from occupation and helped prevent the annihilation of millions of innocent lives. We are deeply grateful to the home front workers, who devoted themselves entirely to supplying the war effort; to the women who fought and labored side by side with men, forging the sword of victory; and to the children of war, who endured hardship and loss, and worked in factories to replace the adults who had gone to the front.
🇨🇦 We also preserve the memory of the brotherhood in arms with the Allied nations, including Canada, as part of the anti-Hitler coalition. We appreciate their contribution on the battlefield and their support—especially through the perilous Arctic Convoys. We are confident that their descendants also cherish the legacy of those historic years.
🕯At the same time, we must remember that for us, Victory Day is a celebration with tears in our eyes. The price of our freedom, independence, and triumph was immense! Millions perished heroically on the battlefield. But it is equally important to recall that of the 27 million Soviet lives lost, the vast majority were civilians—men, women, and children—who were victims of the genocidal occupation policies of Nazi Germany.
📆 Victory Day remains a unifying foundation of our national consciousness.
Russia, as the heir to the valiant legacy of the Red Army, will continue to uphold truth and justice, to defend historical memory from distortion, and to promote peace and stability around the world. It is our duty to ensure that Nazism never rises again—and we shall fulfill that duty, if need be, with sword in hand.
🇷🇺 We bow low before all defenders of the Fatherland!
🔴🔴Happy Victory Day! To our Victory!

📰 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s article "Russia and Cuba: brotherhood through the years and across distances" for Cuban Granma (May 7, 2025)
Key points:
💬 On May 8, the Russian Federation and the Republic of Cuba will commemorate a momentous date which is the 65th anniversary of reconstituting diplomatic relations. <...> Despite the geographical distance our two countries remain bound by close ties of brotherhood forged through many years of interaction in the spirit of strategic partnership. These ties were built upon the firm foundation of friendship and trust laid in the 1960s following the triumph of the Cuban Revolution led by Fidel Castro.
• Numerous visits by the leader of the Cuban Revolution to our country will forever remain part of Russian-Cuban relations.
• Regular contacts at the top level have always been the driving force of Russian-Cuban relations. Russia has always deeply appreciated Cuba’s contribution to the fight against Nazism, including the assistance provided by the island’s democratic, workers’ and trade union organisations, which sent essential supplies to the Soviet Union during the war.
• Cuba is Russia’s reliable foreign policy ally and top priority partner in Latin America. Our Cuban friends stand in solidarity with us on the vast majority of international issues. We support the World Majority’s focus on forming a fairer multipolar world order.
• Cuba’s accession to #BRICS as a partner country on January 1, 2025 will further strengthen our foreign policy coordination.
• We are grateful to Havana for its unfailing support amid the hybrid war being waged by the West against Russia. The Cuban leadership has repeatedly and rightly pointed to NATO’s longstanding expansion towards Russia’s borders as the root cause of the conflict over Ukraine.
• I am pleased to note the expansion of educational ties. A programme to grant 100 scholarships annually for Cuban students to study at Russian universities is being successfully implemented. Since 2023, eight Russian language centres opened in Cuba.
• Throughout its history, cooperation with Cuba has remained multifaceted to the point that you would be hard pressed to find an area that has so far remained untouched.
• Russia and Cuba are on the right side of history. We stand ready to continue to work shoulder to shoulder with our Cuban friends on the comprehensive strengthening of ties for the benefit of the peoples of our countries and in the name of global peace and security. Cuba can always count on our unwavering support. I am convinced that this feeling is mutual.
