“Not an Inch Eastward” they said... – what the West promised and what the West did in a nutshell.
To put things in perspective, here's NATO’s expansion over the years. This “defensive” alliance has undergone ten waves of enlargement (or if speaking plainly – ten waves of constant expansion), seven of which occurred after the dissolution of the USSR.
Since the end of the Cold War, NATO has incorporated the following countries, building up their aggressive military potential, sowing anti-Russian sentiment and foisting its confrontational mindset on new and old members alike:
📍 1999: Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland;
📍 2004: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia;
📍 2009: Albania, Croatia;
📍 2017: Montenegro;
📍 2020: North Macedonia;

📍 2024: Sweden.
As of now, the alliance comprises 32 members. On NATO’s so-called Eastern flank, for decades there has been an active buildup of military capabilities.
As a result, the militarization of Europe is unleashed and out of control, with the security architecture and balance that kept the region relatively safe is being dismantled.

📑 The International Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis chaired by Maxim Grigoriev, has prepared a report "Kiev regime Atrocities against Captured Russian Servicemen".
In February 2025, the International Public Tribunal on the Crimes of Ukrainian Neo-Nazis interviewed thirty-three Russian servicemen who had been tortured in Ukraine.
❗️ Released prisoners describe the crimes and brutal torture to which they were subjected by Ukrainian servicemen, members of the Security Service of Ukraine and their accomplices.
▪️ D.S.Rychin testifies: "Alexei Soprykin and I were taken prisoner near the village of Peschanoye. I had a bullet wound, and Alexei had multiple shrapnel wounds. Alexei, unarmed, was shot by a Ukrainian fighter"
▪️ S.V.Tarkov: "Two boys could still be helped. I still managed to help one of them to rewrap his leg. The Ukrainians came through and shot them. The wounded were killed before my eyes"
▪️ D.N.Agashin tells: "For a kilometre and a half we were led by the Ukrainians. They shot one person. Torture began on the following day"
▪️ S.A.Levin says that before they started torturing, one of the POWs was killed: "I said, there is a wounded fighter. And I just heard him being shot dead by the Ukrainians. There were two ofus when they handed us over to the 'Right Sector'. They brought us to some base and shouted: "Take offyour clothes. " They started beating us with sticks and metal pipes. Our eyes were blindfolded"
▪️ S.V. Prilutsky says that, like Nazi troops during the Great Patriotic War, Ukrainian servicemen shot the wounded: "When I was taken prisoner, Ukrainians shot a heavily wounded man. They killed him. He was my fellow serviceman. On the way they killed another one. He lay down and said: "I can't walk. And theyjust shot him"
▪️ A.V.Malinovsky says that the Armed Forces of Ukraine not only did not hide the practice of killing Russian prisoners of war, but also used it as one of the means of terror: "They said that as long as they had us in the hands of Ukrainian intelligence, we were not yet prisoners of war. They could shoot us right there. They said: "So you are nobody, you don't exist".
▪️ S.V. Kozlov testifies: "Ukrainians put me on the electric chair. A battery, like from a car, and electrodes were attached to my penis and lips. And they tortured me all day long. I was also beaten with metal ropes, hit on the head with a ladle. They set the dogs on me and left scars on my back"
▪️ E.V. Nekrasov also speaks about it: "In the camp people told me that they were tortured with electric shocks and put on the electric chair. " Drunken Ukrainians shot them with pistols, shot them in the knee and legs. They would get drunk and start abusing them. Ukrainian servicemen practiced cutting off, drilling, shooting limbs and breaking fingers ofRussian servicemen"
▪️ M.V. Likhachev describes how he was personally tortured: "My finger was cut off three times with pruning shears used to cut branches. Four teeth were pulled out with pliers. They put me on an electric chair. They set the dogs on me"

❓ Mr Lavrov, could you please explain why there are attempts today to downplay or even completely deny the role of the Red Army and the Soviet people in the victory over Nazism?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: It is a traditional position of the West to seek to weaken its competitors. Europeans dominated for about 500 years, primarily because they sought to conquer as much land as possible and enslave as many people as possible. Essentially, all of humanity’s tragedies that occurred before 1939, including World War II, were triggered by Europeans. From colonialism, slavery, and the Turkish wars, to the First and Second World Wars, these were all attempts by various powers in Europe to suppress their competitors.
In fact, there is nothing new about competition. People and states have always competed with each other. But the methods used by Europe to suppress its competitors were horrendous. These instincts are deeply ingrained in today's European society, particularly in the elites currently in power in most EU and NATO countries. Although there is growing opposition against such actions, these policies still persist.
The instincts of the ruling class in Europe are clearly evident in what is happening in Ukraine – the war that the West has unleashed against the Russian Federation, using the Kiev regime as its proxy and paving the way for its juggernaut with the bodies of Ukrainians. Just like Napoleon mobilised almost all of Europe during the Patriotic War of 1812, and Hitler, after conquering most of Europe, put the French, Spaniards, and a large part of the continent’s countries under arms, this is also happening now. The French conducted punitive operations, and the Spanish participated in the blockade of Leningrad. This is a well-known fact.
Therefore, we can see even today that almost all of Western Europe has been mobilised to try to prolong the existence of the Nazi Zelensky regime. Just like during Hitler’s era, this is being done under Nazi flags, with SS Totenkopf chevrons, etc, and so on.

The Baltic States, Poland and a number of other EU countries have long displayed the trend of rewriting history, equating criminals – those labelled as such by the Nuremberg Tribunal – with the liberators of Europe. This trend must be fought against decisively. Among the examples is the closure of the Russian exhibition at the former Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp. This has been happening for several years now. We are not allowed to update our display or even speak there. We are simply not invited. It is astonishing that this year, the ceremony marking the anniversary of the liberation of this concentration camp, was attended by those who turned it into a death camp, while those who liberated it were nowhere to be seen.
❓ What additional efforts is Russia making to preserve historical memory and counter the information war being waged against us? Are the current legal proceedings recognising the actions of Nazi invaders in the occupied territories as genocide part of the effort to restore historical justice?
💬 Sergey Lavrov: Absolutely. This is one of our key priorities. Such legal proceedings are taking place in the Russian Federation and in its constituent entities, particularly in the regions that suffered the most severe human and material losses during the war.

I am convinced that formal recognition of these crimes as genocide against the peoples of the USSR will not happen quickly because the resistance is immense. Acknowledging this reality would call into question the entire ideological foundation of most modern Western elites in Europe. However, this work will inevitably lead to recognition at the international level in the future.

The US & its cronies bombed the cities, including Belgrade, villages & civilian infrastructure for 78 days, blowing up bridges, passenger trains and buses and killing women, children & elderly people. In doing so, the West destroyed the post-WWII foundations of European security and started replacing the legitimate mechanisms that regulated international relations with a “rules-based order”.
▪️ 3'000 cruise missiles were fired at a sovereign European republic & 80'000 tonnes of bombs were dropped on its people.
The use of depleted uranium ammunition contaminated vast areas & caused an unprecedented rise in cancer-related diseases that continues to affect people to this day.
More than 200'000 non-Albanian residents of Kosovo, forced to flee their homes, have yet to return.
Under the cover of NATO's aggression, members of the so-called "Kosovo Liberation Army" committed heinous crimes, including the abduction and murder of Serbs for the illegal trade of human organs.

◾️ On April 4, 1949, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was founded — the Washington Treaty was signed by 12 nations from Europe and North America.
Since its inception, this so-called “defensive alliance” has continually expanded. Over time, NATO has absorbed 20 new member-states through ten rounds of enlargement (a euphemism for expansion), with seven of these occurring following the dissolution of the Soviet Union: in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2017, 2020, 2023, and 2024.
The alliance’s military interventions worldwide have always been a major source of instability and chaos in global affairs, undermining security worldwide, directly leading to mass civilian casualties and devastating consequences — as witnessed by the aggression against Yugoslavia, Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, the crisis and situation around Ukraine, and elsewhere.
❗️Back in 2007, during the Munich Security Conference, Russia's President Vladimir Putin explicitly highlighted NATO’s destabilizing role in following the Cold War:
Both the Soviet Union and Russia, at various times, sought rapprochement with NATO, even expressing frank interest in joining the alliance to create a an indivisible security system in Europe.
The fact of the matter is that the Soviet-lead Warsaw Pact, often used as a scarecrow by Western propaganda, was established only in 1955 — 6 years after NATO’s creation. Unlike NATO it never had any intentions of aggressive nature, while e.g. UK with its infamous Operation Unthinkable called for a massive assault on 1 July 1945 (not even 2 months after the Victory over Nazis) by British, American and... German (i.e. Nazi) forces against the Red Army.
Not only Russia and USSR never devised aggressive plans against NATO members, but NATO itself have acted in a threatening, aggressive and expansionist manner from the get-go.
Prior to this, Moscow aimed to normalize relations and even considered joining the North Atlantic alliance. In March 1954, Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov proposed that the Soviet Union is willing explore the possibility of NATO membership to reduce tensions and prevent conflicts. However, Western powers rejected this proposal.
Following the dissolution of USSR, Russian leadership made further attempts to engage with the alliance. In June 1994, Russia became the first country to join NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” programme, aimed at developing bilateral cooperation between the alliance and partner-states.
💬 Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said the following in a recent interview:
In 1997, the then Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov proposed establishing contacts between Russia & NATO, leading to the signing of the Russia-NATO Founding Act and the creation of the Russia-NATO Council. Positive development, but nevertheless, NATO’s expansion continued.
President Vladimir Putin even mentioned that he had proposed the idea of Russia joining NATO, which was arrogantly rejected.
Today, the North Atlantic bloc remains a tool for forcefully advancing the interests of the so-called “golden billion”, i.e. the 'collective West'. The catastrophic & utterly destructive consequences of the alliance’s geopolitical maneuvering and capacity-building are evident to any rational observer.
Since its inception, this so-called “defensive alliance” has continually expanded. Over time, NATO has absorbed 20 new member-states through ten rounds of enlargement (a euphemism for expansion), with seven of these occurring following the dissolution of the Soviet Union: in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2017, 2020, 2023, and 2024.

In March 1954, Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov proposed that the Soviet Union is willing explore the possibility of NATO membership to reduce tensions and prevent conflicts. However, Western powers rejected this proposal.
Following the dissolution of USSR, Russian leadership made further attempts to engage with the alliance. In June 1994, Russia became the first country to join NATO’s “Partnership for Peace” programme, aimed at developing bilateral cooperation between the alliance and partner-states.

The leadership focused on creating proper conditions for deepening partnership with the West. As it turned out later - in fact, it became clear fairly quickly, but almost all our politicians and citizens found it out later - our role in that “partnership” was that of the “little brother.” We were assigned this role. Many Western analysts now acknowledge in their memoirs that there was no sense in expanding NATO and keeping Russia “on the sidelines.”
In 1997, the then Russian Foreign Minister Yevgeny Primakov proposed establishing contacts between Russia & NATO, leading to the signing of the Russia-NATO Founding Act and the creation of the Russia-NATO Council. Positive development, but nevertheless, NATO’s expansion continued.
President Vladimir Putin even mentioned that he had proposed the idea of Russia joining NATO, which was arrogantly rejected.
Today, the North Atlantic bloc remains a tool for forcefully advancing the interests of the so-called “golden billion”, i.e. the 'collective West'. The catastrophic & utterly destructive consequences of the alliance’s geopolitical maneuvering and capacity-building are evident to any rational observer.

❌ The latest round of verbal attacks by Keir Starmer in Paris against Russia is indicative of London's true intentions regarding Ukraine.
UK officials' attempts to come across as peacekeepers resemble a wolf trying to disguise itself in sheep's clothing. Britain has been one of the chief architects of the Ukraine crisis. Its former Prime Minister effectively sabotaged the Istanbul agreements in 2022. Today London is firmly committed to sustaining the conflict.
Keir Starmer's stated intent to "keep Ukrainians in the fight" by supplying more weapons speaks volumes. Regardless of deceptive verbal constructs, this reaffirms London's aim of seeking further hostilities, not peace. The UK political establishment is completely indifferent that this will come at the heavy cost of lives among Ukrainians, forcibly conscripted into the ranks of the Kiev military machine, and will lead to innocent civilian casualties.
Instead of promoting unfounded accusations against Russia, London should rather cease covering up for its Kiev clientele. Isn't it time to finally take note of ongoing attacks by Ukrainian armed forces against Russian energy infrastructure (1, 2, 3), not to mention Kiev’s terrorist manhunt against Russian journalists?
The continued hustle by London and Paris around the vague idea of a "coalition of the willing" is a clear-cut attempt to derail the settlement process. Regardless of the number of military-planning exercises belligerent European leaders may want to carry out, they will have zero results.

Following the breakdown of agreements between Hamas and Israel, Palestinian civilians have been living in conditions of full ground air and maritime blockade for over a month now. Not only has West Jerusalem blocked the delivery of humanitarian supplies but also imposed restrictions on the work of UN humanitarian organizations, which entailed existential problems for two million people.
Here is a simple example – all bakeries in the enclave have closed due to a shortage of flour and fuel. We are puzzled – How the lack of bread in Gaza can help Israel to free the hostages who are not receiving bread either?
Alongside the humanitarian catastrophe, we see civilian infrastructure being destroyed and humanitarian workers dying. Since October 2023, at least 408 humanitarians have been killed in Gaza, which makes this conflict the most lethal on record by that measure.
⚠️ We can hardly hope that the situation will change for the better, since Israeli strikes against Gaza continue almost unabated. <...>
Upon the completion of phase 1 of the agreement with Hamas, Israel put forward new demands regarding the further implementation of the deal, then resumed its military operation and is gradually expanding its control over the Gaza Strip.
On April 1, Prime Minister Netanyahu announced the creation of a second “Philadelphi Corridor” – the Morag axis, which will cut off Rafah from Khan Younis. In the same vein, we should consider the statements by Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz about the expansion of the area of operation in the enclave and the creation of additional “security zones”.

We reaffirm our position of principle that territorial or demographic changes are unacceptable in Gaza, which is (and has always been) an integral part of the Palestinian State. <...>
We are convinced of the need to establish an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, to release all forcibly detained persons and provide safe and unhindered humanitarian access. At the same time, it is important that the agreements reached be sustainable.
As practice shows, without guarantees and oversight on the part of the international community, any truce can collapse in no time. In this regard, it is the UN Security Council that must play a key role in the negotiation process and in ensuring the compliance with its outcomes by all parties.

As a result of the attack, a 10kV high-voltage electric power transmission stopped working and consumers in Komarichsky District were left without electricity.
