Umayyad Mosque, Damascus | Women in Niqabs March in Latest HTS Propaganda Video
A group of women wearing niqabs marched through the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, calling on other women to adopt the full-face covering.
The video with added "militarized music" was released by pro-Jolani and HTS-affiliated channels and has since circulated widely across their Telegram channels and linked social media platforms.
This post is not aimed at criticizing or targeting women who choose to wear the niqab. Everyone has the right to dress according to their beliefs. Rather, it raises a question about the sudden appearance of organized religious marches of this nature—something not seen before in Umayyad Mosque, such a significant site.
What do you think of the new "Free Syria"?

Hmeimim, Latakia | Abduction of 17-Year-Old Girl
On April 14, 2025, at approximately 3:00 PM, an abduction of 17-year-old Reem Hassan occurred out of Hmeimim Airport in Latakia. She was threatened by a man who claimed he would kill her younger brother if she did not leave with him discreetly. Fearing for her brother’s life, she complied.
She was taken into a car, blindfolded, and driven toward Benjaro, where the kidnappers spoke in an unfamiliar dialect. Her phone was used by the abductors to send misleading messages to her family, assuring them she was fine.
Following these suspicious messages, her father and local sheikhs coordinated with public security, eventually locating and safely recovering her in Benjaro. Reem confirmed she was not physically harmed, but was threatened not to disclose the kidnapping, with warnings of further retaliation.

The Silencing of Abductions by HTS led media.
In the case of Mira Jalal Thabat, Al-Ikhbariya correspondent Amir Abdel Baqi attempted to present Mira's abduction as a "love story," claiming she "went with Ahmed of her own free will" and "ran away with him out of love."
However, the truth quickly shattered this fabricated narrative.
Leaked conversations revealed that Ahmed had been planning to abduct girls, openly asking friends to join him in the crime. In one exchange, he said, "I convinced a girl, but there was no way!"—a clear indication that there was no love, only coercion and organized abduction.
The media even distorted basic facts to sell this false narrative:
They claimed Ahmed was her classmate at the Teacher Training Institute, but he actually studied tourism and hospitality in Homs, with no connection to her institute.
They presented him as a "student from Idlib," but evidence shows he has been moving between Homs, Damascus, and Tartous since 2020, without ever leaving regime-held areas.

Mira's Abduction Turned Forced Marriage | Signs of Distress Emerge?
In a recent video interview featuring Mira and her accused abuser Ahmed, viewers noticed Mira subtly making hand gestures. Is this a clear sign for help?
Despite the narrative presented in the interview, her visible discomfort, fidgeting, and attempt to pull back the niqab raise concerns about her well-being and the true nature of her situation.
Others have noticed the mark that appears is in fact a tattoo.

Aleppo | Bigoted Treatment, Abuse and Arbitrary Violence by HTS Security Forces
Two young men from Aleppo recounted their experience of witnessing men being harassed and physically assaulted by armed gangs affiliated with the HTS-led “General Security” in the Mogambo district.
They describe being in front of the military hospital when armed men in civilian clothing begin hurling abuse, saying “Al-Halabiyah in Arsat" (calling them whores). The militants beat the men, confiscated a phone, and vandalized a car.
Although the situation was later addressed by a local HTS security commander, who issued an apology, the victims emphasized that dozens of bystanders witnessed the abuse and that this was not an isolated incident. They warn of a growing climate of impunity in Aleppo, where HTS-linked groups intimidate, rob, and assault civilians at will.
The two men urged others not to stay silent in the face of such abuse, comparing the atmosphere to the regime’s darkest days.

The Case of Mira
This situation demands emotional intelligence and common sense.
The exploitation of this story by all sides is evident, but the most important concern should be Mira's wellbeing.
Could this be a case of abduction? Yes.
Could it be a case of a runaway? Yes.
Could her appearance at her family's home reflect shame or a broken sense of honor for running away? Yes.
Could it be fear? Yes.
The truth is, we don't fully understand the intricate details of what has truly happened. There are contradictions from all sides, each attempting to protect themselves in some capacity.
However, this confusion should not distract from the more than 50 documented cases of missing women, including minors, whose fates remain unknown.
One story of a pregnant woman who was abducted, shot, and killed—verified by Amnesty International.
These are real tragedies, and the chaos surrounding Mira's case should not overshadow the families still searching for their loved ones.

In Idlib, under the control of Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), crowds gathered carrying ISIS flags and chanting religious, and sectarian slogans targeting the Druze and Jewish communities.
Protesters called for the spilling of Jewish blood with chants of "Khaybar, Khaybar, O Jews," while also inciting violence against the Druze.
