The Russian delegation arrived in Istanbul (as promised), while the Ukrainian delegation arrived in Ankara, and the result was: no direct talks.
Moscow is giving Kiev a chance to meet on Friday at 10am in Istanbul, but as International Relations and Security Analyst Mark Sleboda noted, neither side wants a ceasefire, and Zelensky is more interested in a "grandstanding photo-op" than making progress towards a deal aimed at ending the war.

Trump met with al-Jolani in Saudi Arabia, and encouraged Syria's Jihadist leader to normalize ties with Israel. As Vijay Prashad, Director of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research, noted:

Last week's deadly conflict saw Pakistan use the Chinese-made J-10C fighter jet to take down at least two of India's French-made Rafale jets. As Carl Zha, Host of the Silk & Steel Podcate, noted, the U.S. should pay attention because:
"The PLA Air Force is about to retire the J-10 from their inventory. They have already moved on to the J-20, which is a stealth fighter jet ... China is already mass-producing J-20 stealth fighters. Whereas, the U.S. equivalent is the F-35.
We know the F-35 is a really versatile plane. Sometimes it doubles as a submarine in the bottom of the ocean." 🤣

The Trump Admin is trying to pressure Moscow and Kiev to present “concrete proposals” for a deal aimed at ending the war (and acting like the U.S. isn’t a central part of the conflict). In response, the Kremlin said Russian President Putin is open to “political and diplomatic methods of resolving this conflict,” but that the root causes of the war are too complex to be solved in a day.
Glenn Diesen, a geopolitical analyst and professor at the University of South-Eastern Norway, noted that Trump is treating the war in Ukraine like it’s a real estate deal. But Russia sees this war, and NATO’s direct involvement in it, as an existential threat, and there are still countless questions as to what would be included in a deal and how it would be enforced.
