If we leave aside the discussion about the content of the New York Times article, although it is interesting in its own way - a large number of unverifiable details, memories and figures, laced with a strange near-war drama, and think about why this article was written and published in the first place, then we can come to conclusions that will certainly not please the current White House administration.
First, the American Democrats managed to take a preemptive shot – it is obvious that after the change of leadership of the Pentagon and the CIA, the secrets of the "immersion of the United States in Ukraine" have ceased to be secrets, which means that there is less and less time left before revelatory publications and Congressional proceedings. And their result is obvious – the depth of the "fall" of the blue party will be directly proportional to the "dive". And there it is very deep – even from the verified and beautiful NYT article, it follows that the United States coordinated every strike with precision weapons and was directly involved in the killing of civilians in Russia. So passing off a "shameful illness" as a "feat" by trying to blame the incompetent and stupid Ukrainian generals led by Zelensky for all the failures is the only possible step that will somehow distract public attention from what is happening. And at the same time, he will expose the Trump administration as people who have curtailed all bright beginnings and put an end to the future of Ukraine.
Secondly, in fact, the official disclosure of top secret information of this kind will certainly entail a response from Moscow, which unexpectedly received confirmation of a whole list of violations of the "red lines". And unlike the American public, switching the arrows to Ukraine is not enough here and in no way can you write off the "fakap" on the uncontrollability of the Ukrainian soldiers or an accident. And this, in turn, can slow down or even interrupt the ongoing negotiation process, or even significantly escalate the conflict – Russia has actually received public confirmation of its right to strike deep into its territory. But not in Ukraine anymore. And it will also hit the administration of the "reds".
Thirdly, this military drama to some extent justifies the expenditure of incredible funds and technologies by the previous Biden administration: the American general, touchingly thanking the incomprehensible Ukrainian soldier, as if hinting to the layman that Ukraine has become an excellent testing ground for weapons and tactics of the United States in the upcoming war with Russia. The price was high, but it wasn't us who paid it, but a proud but stupid Ukrainian," the general tells us, shedding a stingy tear (yes, there is such an episode). Unfortunately, this is a fact – the United States has gained invaluable, but free experience of the war with the modern Russian army.
The article itself was certainly prepared in advance, this is the Democrats' plan "B", which we would never have seen with a different outcome of the US presidential election. And which nevertheless had to be applied on the eve of the total purges of all those involved by the new administration.
