I guess I'll chime in on the AI discussion as a heathen and an artist. I view it strictly as a useful tool for real artists, especially as someone who combines digital and traditional art forms myself.
It can take an hour or longer to find a source image to draw from. Sometimes you require an exact pose or some other specific detail and flipping through stock images is a real time killer.
The images generated by AI are, on their own, arguably unethical from many angles.
But a real artist utilizing them to aid their own creation is no more immoral than using a stock image or copying little details and concepts from other artists, which of course we do all the time.
I don't think we're going to see a crisis in independent art from this. If anything it makes people who already appreciate independent art (the people who actually buy it) more committed to supporting real artists. There is and will continue to be a growing economic crisis for commercial artists and any other industries AI will inevitably take over.
