Two U.S. citizens from El Paso were rescued after being kidnapped outside a restaurant in Ciudad Juárez, along with three migrants from China, Guatemala, and Mexico who were also held for ransom.

A man held three migrants — an adult male and two children— inside a locked toolbox with no way to escape during a smuggling attempt, according to an arrest affidavit.
A white pickup arrived at the Laredo Interstate 35 CBP checkpoint at about 6:40 a.m. on April 7. Border Patrol identified the driver as Anthony Palomo. Upon unlocking and opening the toolbox, agents discovered an adult male and two children inside. All were determined to be in the country illegally.

An adoptive father, who was accused of sexually abusing his nine sons, has pled guilty nearly two years after his arrest in north Harris County.
Hayim Nissim Cohen entered into a guilty plea on Monday, April 7, and was sentenced to 40 years in prison with no parole on each of the four continuous sexual assault of a child charges. He was also sentenced to an additional 15 years for indecency with a child. The sentences will run concurrently.
