We achieve it through constant repentance, walking in the presence of the Lord by attending Divine Liturgy and studying the Holy Scripture, and ceaseless prayer.

Remember that nothing must be done in spiritual life without repentance. No matter what anyone endeavors to seek, let the beginning of it be repentance.

Just as a house cannot be built without a foundation, nor a field be sown or planted without first being cleared, so also without repentance we cannot begin our spiritual search; anything begun without repentance was begun in vain.

Thus, first of all, repent—that is, weep over everything bad that you have done, and resolve to do only what is pleasing to God. This will be like turning your gaze and your whole body towards the path of meeting the Lord, and taking the initial step upon that path.

Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Feldkirch, Austria. Founded in 1976, it is a parish of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Austria and Switzerland. The faithful were given a church by the Roman Catholic Church in 1990. Today the community represents a mix of Serbs, Greeks, Russians, Ukrainians, and Austrians, and the priest Fr. Nikola teaches the Basics of Orthodoxy course at the schools in Feldkirch. The outbreak of the Ukraine War has threatened the stability of the community, but Fr. Nikola was able to manage it and reconcile the Russians and Ukrainians under his pastoral care. Witnessing of the truth is fraught with danger however; last year two teenagers broke into the church and vandalized the sanctuary. Orthodoxy is growing in Western and Central Europe, which is a blessing but also a challenge.
