Elon Musk wants to privatize the United States’ Postal Service and Amtrak, he said on Wednesday.
It’s “kind of embarrassing” how other countries have “way better passenger rail than we do,” like China’s bullet trains, Musk said during a virtual appearance at a Morgan Stanley tech conference.
“Amtrak is a sad situation,” he said. “It’s like, if you’re coming from another country, please don’t use our national rail. It can leave you with a very bad impression of America.”
The Tesla and SpaceX billionaire, who is also the face of the Trump administration’s cost-cutting agency, said “we should privatize anything that can be privatized.”

No state has enacted a ban on mRNA so far. But Iowa, Montana and Idaho have all introduced legislation this year aimed at cutting the use of mRNA vaccine technology.
In Iowa this week, a bill advanced out of a legislative subcommittee that would penalize providers with fines of as much as $500 for each shot of mRNA-based vaccine they provide.
After pushback, state Sen. Doug Campbell, who introduced the bill, backtracked and reworked it to instead require mRNA vaccine makers to waive federal liability protections in order to distribute within the state.
The move would allow patients who believe they were harmed by the vaccine to file a lawsuit. "If I was a manufacturer of car tires and they delammed at 1,000 miles, I should be liable for that," he told the TV station KEYC.
Meanwhile, an Idaho bill that would outright ban the use of mRNA-based vaccines for 10 years is being considered in a state Senate committee but hasn't advanced. A regional public health department in the state has already been blocked from administering COVID shots in six Idaho counties.

CIA officers hired within the last two years are being summoned to off-site locations, fired and forced to surrender their badges to security personnel, three people briefing on the layoffs told The New York Times.
President Donald Trump said that agencies would begin initiating their own cuts and firings inspired by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) actions over the first month of his second term.
And the CIA under Director John Ratcliffe wasted no time getting to work on trimming down their workforce under Trump's orders.
It's not clear how many officers were let go so far and how many will lose their jobs.
People familiar with the effort, however, insist not all recent hires and probationary employees will be dismissed.

President Donald Trump said that agencies would begin initiating their own cuts and firings inspired by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) actions over the first month of his second term.
And the CIA under Director John Ratcliffe wasted no time getting to work on trimming down their workforce under Trump's orders.
It's not clear how many officers were let go so far and how many will lose their jobs.
People familiar with the effort, however, insist not all recent hires and probationary employees will be dismissed.
The reduction in CIA workforce came after a judge cleared the way for Ratcliffe to fire employees at will.

We hear longtime Disney and ABC staffers have been finding a home at CBS News as the former continues to slash its workforce.
Former ABC heavy hitters such as Matthew Mosk and Wendy Fisher have landed executive positions at CBS after exiting the network.
ABC News veteran Tom Cibrowski has also been snapped up by the network. He was named president and executive editor of CBS News last week.
Sources told Page Six the move to hire ABC vets has been intentional. Wendy McMahon, president and CEO of CBS News and Television Stations and CBS Media Ventures is excited to scoop up the newly available talent.
And she’s hoping to replicate the former success of now struggling “Good Morning America.”
