“It has been related that there was a cat in the kitchen of one of the great shaykhs. One day, the cook wanted to serve food from the pot (burmah) for the shaykh and his noble companions, when the cat approached and tried to push him away. He repeatedly pushed her back, but she kept returning. Eventually, when he overpowered the cat and pushed her forcefully away, she threw herself into the pot and died. When they overturned the pot, they found a snake inside. Thus, it became clear—through this extraordinary event—that the cat had great affection for the shaykh and the fuqarāʾ, had seen the snake inside, and sacrificed herself to protect them.”

As for the popular claim among common folk—that a cat slept on the Prophet’s garment and when he wanted to rise for prayer, he cut his garment to avoid disturbing it—is utterly false and entirely baseless.

This hadith is one of the things that prompted me to consider that maybe there was more to Islam than Desert Storm pre-invasion drum-beating propagandists would have us believe.

Every daʿwah requires at least four elements, namely the:
1. dāʿī (caller),
2. madʿū (called),
3. madʿū bihi (called through), and
4. madʿī ilayhi (called to).
What worthwhile destination is called to through falsehoods? Because it certainly is not Paradise.

Your good Ramadan habits should not be abandoned once Ramadan ends:
“Beneficial Point
One should maintain consistent devotional practices at all times and places. Devotion limited to Ramadan followed by neglect thereafter is misguidedness and self-deception—even if increasing acts of charity, recitation of the Qur’an, and earnestness in worship during Ramadan is recommended.”

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said:
“Wondrous is the affair of the believer—for all his affairs are good, and that is not the case for anyone except the believer. If something pleasing befalls him, he gives thanks, and that is good for him. If something harmful befalls him, he is patient, and that is good for him.” [Muslim, 2999]
This is evidence that for the believer who follows the Divine Law (al-sharʿ), everything that happens to him is ultimately good.

The world is shrouded in darkness except where illuminated by the sun of the Prophet’s message (may Allah bless him and give him peace). Anyone whose heart has not been illuminated by the radiance of the sun of his message (peace be upon him) is cursed, banished, afflicted with the darkness of disbelief and misery, and deprived of the life of the heart—through which alone comes success in this world and the hereafter, and salvation from eternal punishment in Hellfire. Even if his body remains alive, his existence resembles that of animals. True life of the heart lies only in obedience to Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him).
Allah (Exalted is He) says: “O you who have believed, respond to Allah and the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life.”[1]
He also says: “And is one who was dead, and We gave him life and appointed for him a light whereby he walks among people, like one whose likeness is in darkness from which he can never emerge?”[2]
The need of a legally accountable servant (ʿabd mukallaf) for prophetic guidance and for accepting what the messengers brought is greater, more intense, and more essential than his need for hearing, sight, or any conceivable necessity—even greater than a sick person’s need for a physician. The worst conceivable consequence of lacking medical care is physical death, but whoever does not seek illumination from the prophetic message will never attain happiness, and will suffer everlasting torment.
Indeed, the greatest blessing of Allah (Exalted is He) upon His servants, His noblest grace, and His finest gift is the sending of messengers, the revelation of divine scriptures, and clarification of the straight path (ṣirāṭ mustaqīm). Without these blessings, our condition would be worse than that of livestock and beasts.

Know that the meaning of “consuming the flesh of others” is backbiting them (ghībah), because Allah (Exalted is He) likened the backbiting of a believer to eating his flesh.
Some scholars said: Just as the deceased is incapable of preventing the eating of his flesh, similarly, the absent victim of backbiting cannot prevent it and is unaware of it.
Others have stated: The likeness emphasises the severity of backbiting’s prohibition, for just as human nature recoils from eating the flesh of the dead, it should equally recoil—by religious obligation—from backbiting.

“Even though he makes a lot of mistakes on absolutely basic stuff, but he still has good to offer.”
If you wouldn’t accept this excuse for those who step forth to care for your physical health and well-being in the passing material world, it is even less appropriate to accept it for those who step forth to care for spiritual health and salvation in the never-ending hereafter.
