We have a President that has implemented tariffs and now price controls. This creates uncertainty and will affect the multiple on the stock market that investors are willing to pay over time. Given he inherited historically high valuations for stocks it will likely contract the market multiple.
This is not a comment on the political or social merits of his actions but just market realities.
We are projecting a recession this year so we think earnings will decline and in our opinion this increased uncertainty only adds to our negativity on stock returns this year.
