Shime-nawa (sacred rope)

In Japan, during the season of shrine festivals, you will see ropes with paper attached to them being passed around the eaves of houses.

The town is then surrounded by the rope and designated as a sanctuary. It is the boundary that distinguishes the sacred from the profane. The inside of the rope is the sanctuary, the sacred area.

It is thought to be related to the Eruv.

Corneliu Zelea Codreanu (1899-1938), leader of the Romanian Iron Guard, revolutionary, author and martyr. One of the greatest men to ever emerge from our Struggle. What's curious about Corneliu Zelea Codreanu's murder is that he and the other legionaries that night weren't executed by a shot to the head. They were tied in a peculiar way, with their hands tied to the bench behind them and their legs to the lower part of the bench in front of them. They were then garroted to death from behind by a gendarme with a rope thrown over their head.
