Anthony Albanese claimed victory as the first Australian prime minister to clinch a second consecutive term in 21 years on Saturday and suggested his government had increased its majority by not modeling itself on President Trump’s administration.

💥President Trump will sign an executive order Monday to ban all federal funding of risky gain-of-function research in China, Iran and other countries without proper oversight of the experiments — more than five years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic that US intel agencies have since said most likely resulted from a lab accident.
The order will yank funding from “any present and all future” gain-of-function research as well as deputize the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other agencies to identify biological research harmful to public health or threatening to national security.
“These measures will drastically reduce the potential for lab-related incidents involving gain-of-function research, like that conducted on bat coronaviruses in China by the EcoHealth Alliance and Wuhan Institute of Virology,” according to a White House fact sheet reviewed by The Post.
White House officials also dinged the Biden administration for allowing the possibly global-pandemic producing experiments that enhance the infectiousness of viruses and bacteria.
Additionally, all research with infectious pathogens and toxins will be paused until the director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy and national security adviser develop a new policy with enforcement and reporting requirements.

Greg Abel would take over at that point, pending board approval, and Buffett said he would not sell one share of Berkshire stock. Abel, the vice chairman of non-insurance operations of Berkshire, was designated as Buffett’s successor in 2021. It is not clear whether Abel would assume the chairman role.

In April 2025, Democrats changed the bill so that it no longer includes felony charges for people who solicit or pay for sex with 16- or 17-year-olds, unless it can be clearly proven that the teen was a victim of human trafficking. And since that’s incredibly hard to prove, it basically means these cases are now treated as misdemeanors.
To put it bluntly, this means that in California, owning a child sex slave isn’t actually punished in any meaningful way. Yes, seriously. That’s not a mistake or a misinterpretation.
And honestly, how does anyone still support the Democrats after this?
Protects predators while kids suffer. AB 379 exposes their true colors: soft on trafficking, soft on pedos, tough on excuses. This is the party of moral rot prioritizing ideology over innocence.

Germany’s domestic intelligence agency labeled the country’s popular right-wing party as an “extremist” organization in a statement released Friday, opening the door for the government to ramp up efforts to surveil the right, according to multiple reports.
The Verfassungschutz, or Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV), claimed in the statement that Alternative for Deutschland (AfD) is a right-wing extremist party, paving the way for the government to double down on its surveillance of the organization’s activities, according to The New York Times. AfD came in second place in the February federal elections as its platform proved popular among voters tired of runaway immigration and ceding sovereignty to the European Union.
“The ethnicity and ancestry-based understanding of the people prevailing within the party is incompatible with the free democratic order,” the BfV said in the statement, according to a BBC translation.

A vote Saturday to formally organize Starbase as a city was being approved by a lopsided margin by a small group of voters who live there and are mostly Musk’s employees at SpaceX.
Starbase is the facility and launch site for the SpaceX rocket program that is under contract with the Department of Defense and NASA that hopes to send astronauts back to the moon and someday to Mars.

Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) ended her week by taking action on a total of 57 bills, approving 34 of them and vetoing 23 others, on Friday, her office announced.
One vetoed bill (HB 2099) would have made it so the governor, attorney general and every county, city and town in Arizona would have to enforce and cooperate with all immigration orders, actions and programs from the federal government.
Hobbs said she vetoed this bill because "Arizonans, not Washington, DC politicians, must decide what's best for Arizona…we should not force state officials to take marching orders from Washington, DC.“
