I’m holding the hand of a child who has been severely malnourished, lying in our ICU for over two weeks. SubhanAllah, despite his condition and the severe complications he faces, he has been with us for over two weeks now, he remains so calm. In a place where children are often terrified of the doctors and the treatments we provide, this little one is different.

He seems to seek my attention every time I enter the room, reaching out for a hand to hold, as if he craves love and comfort. It breaks my heart to know that he cannot have his mother or any family member by his side due to the infection risks in the ICU. Yet, when I hold his hand, I can see his heart rate slow, and he becomes more relaxed. It’s a small gesture, but it means the world to him.
