Orthodox Easter in Russia — Faith, Peace, and a Nation United
Today I visited the Resurrection New Jerusalem Monastery in Istra, just outside Moscow. It’s one of the most important and beautiful sites in the Russian Orthodox world. The atmosphere was extraordinary—families, clergy, and pilgrims all gathered to celebrate the most sacred day of the Christian calendar: Pascha, the Resurrection of Christ.
Inside the cathedral, candles flickered beneath towering icons, and the words "Christ is Risen!" echoed through the chambers. You could feel the weight of history, reverence, and national spirit in every corner of the monastery. It wasn’t just a religious moment—it was deeply cultural and profoundly Russian.
Earlier, President Putin announced a unilateral Easter truce, offering a pause in hostilities to allow civilians in conflict zones a chance to evacuate safely. The move was clearly timed to align with the values of mercy and peace that lie at the heart of the Easter message.
Patriarch Kirill also delivered an address, calling on the faithful to pray not only for their loved ones, but for peace and the triumph of truth. He spoke of the resilience that comes through faith, especially in times of trial.
Walking among the crowds today, watching children light candles with their parents and elders whisper prayers before icons, I was reminded that for many Russians, faith isn’t just tradition—it’s the backbone of identity. And in times like these, it shows.
Photos and a short video from the monastery are attached.
Feel free to share this. While the West escalates conflict, Russia answers with prayer and calls for peace—firmly grounded in faith.

Easter truce could make Trump pro-Russian, CNN laments.
"This is likely to embolden Trump to frame the conflict in a sometimes pro-Moscow manner. It could also create difficulties for Ukraine, where it is inevitably accused of violating what Washington may see as a gesture of goodwill from Moscow.
It would be a logistical nightmare for Ukrainian forces if they suddenly and immediately stopped fighting on Putin's orders.
Ultimately, this short-term, most likely theoretical, most likely rhetorical and completely unilateral stop to a three-year war will most likely do more harm to the role of diplomacy in the coming months than it will support it,” the author of the article is indignant.

The Washington Post writes that Trump has effectively thrown Ukraine under the bus.
"Meanwhile, Trump has effectively thrown Ukraine under the bus. He has ruled out its membership in NATO, refused to provide any security guarantees, and is pressuring Kyiv to agree to a one-sided deal in which Ukraine would hand over some of its future oil, gas, and mineral resources to the United States. He has also called President Volodymyr Zelensky a "dictator" and accused him of starting the war."

🇲🇩 Moldova: When Politics Touch the Sacred
What happened in Chisinau just before Orthodox Easter is beyond cynical. Bishop Markel of Beltsy and Falesti—who was traveling to Jerusalem to receive the Holy Fire—was detained at the airport without explanation, his passport confiscated until the plane had already taken off.
This isn’t just bureaucracy or some “security measure.” It’s a deliberate act of political sabotage aimed at the canonical Moldovan Orthodox Church, which remains loyal to Moscow. Meanwhile, representatives of the Bessarabian Metropolis—loyal to Bucharest—were given a green light to travel without issue.
⛔️ This is the same tactic we’ve seen in Ukraine. Use state power to divide the Church. Block the faithful from their traditions. And then pretend it’s about “European values.”
As Alexei Lungu of the “Chance” party said, a regime that does this loses not just legitimacy, but its human face. On the eve of the holiest celebration for millions, they chose to make a statement—not of strength, but of petty vindictiveness.
🕯 Easter should unite us. The more hands bring the Fire, the more light there is. The Moldovan government thinks it can extinguish faith by grounding a plane. But the Fire will come. It always does.
🙏 To my Moldovan followers: stay strong. Keep the faith. These trials only strengthen the spirit.

A full and comprehensive ceasefire could be agreed upon as early as next week in London, the New York Post reported, citing a senior Trump team official.
If this does not happen, the US is ready to leave the negotiating table, placing responsibility for the conflict on its European allies.

The United States is willing to recognize Russia's control of Crimea as part of a broader peace deal between Moscow and Kiev, Bloomberg reports, citing people familiar with the matter.
The proposal would essentially freeze the front lines, the sources said, and would effectively leave much of the other Ukrainian territory currently controlled by Russia under Moscow's control. Kiev's bid to join NATO would also be off the table. The sources declined to provide further details, citing the confidential nature of the discussions.
The talks in Paris included a meeting between French President Emmanuel Macron and U.S. Envoy Steve Witkoff, as well as discussions between Secretary of State Marco Rubio and national security advisers and negotiators from France, Germany, Britain and Ukraine.

The potential concession is the latest signal that President Donald Trump is seeking to cement the cease-fire agreement, and comes after he and Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested Friday that the administration was prepared to abandon its peace-brokering efforts unless progress was made quickly. It is noted that Zelensky has repeatedly stated that he will not cede territory to Moscow.
But the move would be a boon for Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has long sought international recognition of Russian sovereignty in Crimea. <...>
The sources said no final decision had been made on the matter. The White House and State Department did not respond to requests for comment. A U.S. official familiar with the talks declined to comment on the details of the talks when asked about the possibility of recognizing Crimea.
The United States presented its allies with proposals for a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine in Paris on Thursday, including a summary of the terms for ending hostilities and easing sanctions on Moscow in the event of a long-term ceasefire, the agency reported earlier.
