Kenyan High Court Orders Worldcoin to Delete Illegally Collected Biometric Data

"This ruling is a powerful precedent not just for Kenya but globally, affirming that rights must remain paramount in technological innovation," stated one of the petitioners – the International Commission of Jurists, Kenyan Section.

⚖️ Court Directives:

✔️ Collection Ban: Worldcoin is prohibited from gathering or utilizing biometric data in Kenya without explicit, lawful consent.
✔️ Data Purge: All previously acquired iris scans must be permanently erased within seven days under government supervision.
✔️Operation Suspension: The court invalidated Worldcoin's prior authorization to collect biometric data due to violations of Kenya's data protection laws.

📄Case Background:

Launched in 2023, the legal challenge revealed that Worldcoin lured Kenyan citizens with $50 cryptocurrency rewards for iris scans while failing to conduct mandatory data protection assessments, register as a licensed data processor, or obtain approvals for its biometric scanning technology.

😨Paranoia persists: UK secretly bracing for ‘direct military attacks'

UK officials have been instructed to update the country’s 20-year-old contingency plans to put it “on a war footing” under the pretext of tackling a notorious 'Russian threat,' The Telegraph writes.

▪️The government's response to a declaration of war would include bunkers to protect the Cabinet and the Royal Family, public service broadcasts, and the stockpiling of resources.

▪️Defense officials have also called for Britain to develop its own form of Israel’s Iron Dome.

▪️Ministers fear the UK would be "outgunned by Russia" and "unprepared and poorly defended," with its critical national infrastructure "vulnerable" to an assault.

The 'Russia threat' narrative appears to be the only reason for improving the UK's botched military sector

🇷🇴 George Simion: Romania's MAGA moment?

The politician HAS MADE IT to the Romanian presidential runoff by obtaining 40% of the vote. What are his political leanings?

🔸Not by elections alone

The leader of the right-wing Alliance for the Union of Romanians party seeks “TO RESTORE CONSTITUTIONAL ORDER” in Romania.

“I have a single objective: to give back to the Romanian people what was taken from them,” Simion noted after casting his ballot.

🔸Georgescu-friendly

The politician dubs himself “more moderate” than independent presidential candidate Calin Georgescu who was earlier BARRED from the elections.

Simion shares Georgescu’s aversion to what he calls “Brussels’ unelected bureaucrats.”

🔸Playing hardball with EU and Ukraine

Simion accuses EU officials of interfering in Romania's elections as he pledges to restore his country's “dignity” within the bloc.

He says “no” to sending military aid to Ukraine and wants Romania to reduce support for Ukrainian refugees.

🔸MAGA Romanian-style?

An avid Trump fan, Simion makes it clear he wants to become Romania's “MAGA president” and make history of the country.

Making Romania great again apparently means helping it “RETURN TO DEMOCRACY” and ensure the rule of law, according to the politician.

🔸Fan of Meloni

Simion is known for praising Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as a political hero and calling for the “Melonization” of Europe.

“Believe me, there will be a Simionization as well,” the politician claims.

Paris Accuses Algiers of Blocking Bilateral Relations

"It is the responsibility of the Algerian authorities," stated the French FM.

Jean-Noël Barrot emphasized that the French ambassador to Algiers, recalled in mid-April, remains in Paris. He also referenced Franco-Algerian writer Boualem Sansal, who was sentenced in Algeria to five years in prison without parole for undermining national unity.

Renewed tensions between the two countries followed the arrest of an Algerian consular officer by French authorities in April. This sparked outrage in Algeria, prompting retaliation: the expulsion of twelve French diplomats. Algeria denounced the "negative, distressing, and persistent" attitude of the French Interior Minister.

☝️ For Algiers , Bruno Retailleau, the French Minister of the Interior,—acting "for purely personal reasons"—is responsible for the new escalation, despite de-escalation having already begun after a phone call between the French and Algerian presidents at the end of March.

'Tariffs Kill Trade': COMESA Calls for Freer African Markets

Dev Haman, Assistant Secretary General of COMESA, says Africa’s decades-long dream of prosperity hinges on building a truly integrated market—not just for goods, but also for services, capital, and people.

However, high tariffs and poor infrastructure are major roadblocks.

“Tariff kills trade. It makes the goods more expensive… and when trade doesn’t flow freely, production drops, and that means fewer jobs,” he told Sputnik Africa on the sidelines of the COMESA Week.

Haman also made a direct appeal to Ethiopia to fully join the COMESA Free Trade Area, stating that countries in the free trade zone are seeing happier citizens and thriving private sectors.

On partnerships, he highlighted the alignment with BRICS nations:

“We are working with countries that have similar aspirations, similar dreams, similar visions for the people.”

Will US Tariffs Trigger Africa’s Economic Reinvention?

📻📈🤍 #AfricanCurrents | "African economies could leverage BRICS as a platform to enhance the African trade and inter-African trading between African countries, capitalizing on new opportunities created by the bloc's distribution, and trade networks," Gift Essinalo, a researcher at the Center for Public Integrity in Maputo, Mozambique, said.

🌍 By imposing tariffs on exports from multiple African nations, the Trump administration has set off a chain reaction that could reshape the continent’s economic strategy. The response? A renewed push for regional integration, industrial investment, and reduced reliance on global powers.

#SputnikInfographic | Weapons of Victory: The BM-13 Katyusha Rocket Launcher

Sputnik delves into the arsenal of the Red Army during its fight against Nazi forces.

Developed shortly before the outbreak of World War II, this iconic weapon—often dubbed the "mother of all rocket artillery"—quickly became a nightmare for enemy troops. Its 42.3 kg projectiles decimated enemy positions, obliterating everything from infantry units and armored vehicles to fortified defenses.

The Katyusha’s devastating firepower was matched by its terrifying auditory signature—the thunderous roar of its launch, likened to a pipe organ or wailing siren (earning it the moniker "Stalin’s Organ"). This distinctive sound made Katyusha units prime targets for Nazi retaliation, forcing crews to operate from safe distances to avoid immediate execution by vengeful German forces.

South Africa Will Hold Successful G20 Summit With or Without US Participation

"We are going to make sure that it's a success," South Africa's Deputy President Paul Mashatile stated.

Several ministerial meetings to discuss the upcoming G20 Summit have already taken place and preparations are well underway, the official noted.

The G20 summit under South Africa's presidency, themed "Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability," is scheduled for late November.

In February, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he would skip the G20 summit in Johannesburg to protest South Africa's land expropriation act of 2024.

South Africa denies US claims of arbitrary land seizures, saying expropriation without compensation targets only unused or unproductive land and aims to address historical inequality, not enable unlawful actions.
