🇵🇰🇮🇳 There is a nice video circulating on the Internet from the Baglihar hydroelectric dam on the Chenab River that says "India has shut down the flow of the Indus River towards Pakistan by closing all four gates that control the flow of water through the dams and canals."
🔴First, the video shows that the hydroelectric dam is operating normally (yes, closed spillway dam gates are normal operation, no reason to open them, it's a heat wave, not monsoon, no danger of overflowing the upper reservoir).
🔴Second, none of the hydropower plants in the Indian part of the Indus basin have sluices.
🔴And in general, India has not declared its intention to dam the rivers, especially since it does not have the capacity to do so. It has announced the suspension of the treaty, which contains a set of legal tools for resolving bilateral disputes that have been abused by the Pakistanis and long claimed by the Indians. The treaty renegotiation itself has been under discussion in Pakistan since at least 2016 (understandably in Pakistan's favor) and in India since 2019.
