"The reasons that the US will lose a war with Iran

Trump recently threatened Iran with an aerial assault if Iran does not surrender its nuclear arms program. No doubt, Trump is making this threat on behalf of Israel - our so-called greatest ally. It is not a coincidence that the threat was made on Saturday, the day before the beginning of the work week in Israel (Israel works Sunday - Thursday). Ordinary Jewish-state residents will gleefully awaken to the news that Trump is threatening to take out Iranian weapons capacity. If you live in Qatar, Bahrain, or the UAE, you are probably terrified. The destruction of those weapons systems so close to the Persian Gulf will destroy them, too, thanks to a poisoned water supply (desalination treatment does not remove uranium).

But what comes next? Iran is not likely to take such a strike sitting down. The most likely target would be the US naval base in Bahrain, army bases in Iraq, and the air base in Qatar. The mass devastation on US troops will lead to a war. After all, Trump cannot sit back and let the Iranians kill tens of thousands of American troops without a full scale response - even if a retaliatory strike by Iran was justifiable. If that happens, the United States will lose the war. Here is why.

Iran is not a powerhouse in the traditional sense. It has a modest weapons program and it purchases advanced weaponry from Russia and China (both of which would love to test new systems on American targets without directly confronting the Americans). This means that, despite a military disadvantage from a technological and production perspective, the Iranians would be able to match US firepower by alternative means.

Additionally, the US lacks the production capacity to keep up with a low-tech, high proficiency weapons assault by a country like Iran. We do not have the domestic manufacturing capacity. We do not have access to rare earth elements necessary to engage in a prolonged war. We have not replenished our military supply chains after the black hole that has been the Ukraine War. We are materially bankrupt.

More importantly, however, is that Iran is the home of Shia Islam - specifically the Ja'fari School of Islam. Whereas Shiites comprise about 10 - 15% of the world's Islamic population, the faith is grounded in certain historical predicates that make it more difficult to defeat than a movement like Al Qaeda.

To begin, the faith enjoys state support from Tehran. Historically, Shiites have been forced to overcome extraordinary hardships which, in turn, has led to a unique martyr-hero complex. Al Qaeda was a movement. Shiism Islam is an actual faith with diplomatic capacity.

Theologically, Shiites are ready for a cataclysmic, world ending event - even if they desire peace (as the vast majority do). Unlike Wahhabism, Shi'ism does not subscribe to the idea of compelled conversion (i.e., join Islam or die). Rather, Shi'ism believes Christians will be led to Islam, so they carefully construct relationships that engender good will amongst marginalized Christian communities throughout the region. Even in Lebanon, after the Israeli inspired troubles of the 1970s & 80s subsided, Hezbollah built relationships with Christians in the South of Lebanon. In Syria, during the rise of ISIS, US troops led by then General Lloyd Austin, at the direction of President Obama, targeted Christian minority communities in Syria and Iraq for bombings; the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (Sepha-e-Pasdaran) protected those Christian minorities. This has led to a unique interconnected web of support in the Middle East that is both hard to quantify and harder to identify. Unlike Al Qaeda, which targeted any non-Sunni Muslim, Iran works with anyone who will work with them.

Internally, the Iranian system is a bee hive of connectivity that cannot be dismantled. Bonyads (a quasi charitable/quasi business entity) feed the nucleus of a financial system that has remained unbroken despite economic sanctions by the United States. "Florida authorities, including the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and Attorney General James Uthmeier, announced the dismantling of a global child exploitation network. The investigation, which began in July 2024, uncovered a website that hosted approximately 1.2 million files of CSAM, including images and videos depicting the abuse of minors, some as young as infants. An undercover agent infiltrated the operation, leading to the site’s shutdown within a week via a seizure warrant.

Eight individuals were charged with felonies such as racketeering (RICO), money laundering, and purchasing or distributing child sexual abuse material. Seven of these suspects are Florida residents from cities including Clearwater and Lakeland, while the alleged ringleader, Mehmet Bozuyuk from Turkey, remains at large with an outstanding warrant. Another suspect, Ximena Del Real Maqueda from Portland, Oregon, is also being sought. The FDLE is collaborating with Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to extradite Bozuyuk."
