Dr. Ron Rhodes: BEAR NOT A SINGLE CARE THYSELF
“Bear not a single care thyself,
One is too much for thee;
The work is Mine, and Mine alone;
Thy work — to rest in Me.”
—Anonymous
This short poem portrays God speaking to one of his children who is burdened by too many cares. The poem echos a truth that permeates the psalms — and that is that the Lord offers to take all our cares upon Himself. We need not be overwhelmed.
The psalmist writes: “The LORD is a stronghold for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble” (Psalm 9:9). “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (46:1).
God invites us, “Call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me” (50:15). The psalmist urges, “Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you” (55:22).
When cares press in and trouble threatens to undo us, we must remember that our strength is not in ourselves, but in the One who never grows weary. The Lord calls us to rest in His power and lean into His promises. Whatever weighs heavy today, release it into the hands of your faithful God. He who holds the stars also holds you, and He will surely sustain you.
