Uncertainty about the second coronation
There is an interesting uncertainty in research about this coronation. Some historians argue that this ceremony may not have been Bolesław's first coronation, but rather a repetition or a second coronation, as there are historical accounts that point to an earlier coronation in 1000 during the Congress of Gniezno.
In the year 1000, Emperor Otto III appeared as a pilgrim in Gniezno. There the "Congress of Gniezno" took place, the exact meaning of which is disputed.
Otto's visit undeniably meant a significant revaluation of the Polish duke: Bolesław was provided with royal rights, such as the right to appoint bishops independently. According to an early papal decree, this was reserved exclusively for kings and emperors.
According to Thietmar of Merseburg, Otto raised Bolesław from tributarius (tributary) to dominus (lord).
According to Wipo, Bolesław took advantage of the short interregnum in Germany after the death of Henry II in 1025.
The Polish Historical Museum, which is celebrating this anniversary with the exhibition "1025. The Birth of the Kingdom", writes on its website: "No chronicler of this time, and here we are only dependent on German reports that resist the Polish ruler, has given the date or place of this event. On the basis of indirect data, it is possible to point with a high degree of probability to 18 April 1025, the day of Easter in that year, and to the Archcathedral in Gniezno, which is associated with the cult of St. Adalbert, as the place of coronation."
However, this topic remains controversial; many modern historians recognise 1025 as the date of the coronation.

With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Kudasheva enlisted in her husband’s old regiment as a volunteer and fought alongside them in East Prussia. Her bravery earned her a promotion to lieutenant and the Order of St. George medal, the highest military decoration. By 1915, she had risen to command the 600-strong light cavalry regiment, which was notable for containing women troopers and officers among its ranks.
In 1917 Kudasheva was travelling incognito through Central Asia, possibly on an espionage mission, after which records of her cease.
She may have been the Alexandra Gerasimova Kudachev who was executed by the Cheka in 1921 in what is now Kazakhstan.

Pravda vítězí🇨🇿
"Truth prevails" (Czech: Pravda vítězí; Latin: Veritas Vincit) is the national motto of the Czech Republic.
The motto goes back to a letter from Jan Hus to Jan z Rabštejna from 1413, in which he writes: Super omnia vincit veritas (Truth triumphs over everything).
Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, the first President of Czechoslovakia, adopted the shortened phrase "truth prevails" as a presidential motto shortly after independence from Austria-Hungary in 1918.
Today the motto appears on the standard of the president of the Czech Republic.

Sveti Stefan, Montenegro🇲🇪
Sveti Stefan is a small Adriatic island near Budva in Montenegro. A short causeway connects the small island, which covers an area of just 1.46 hectares, to the mainland.
There are several old churches on the island, including that of St Stefan (Sveti Stefan), which gave the island its name. In the 1950s and 1960s, the entire village was turned into a hotel island. The alleyways, roofs and house facades have retained their original character. A casino was also part of the complex, which gave Sveti Stefan the name Adriatic Monaco.
The island was leased by the Aman Group from the state of Montenegro for 30 years in 2007 and then renovated.
The facility has been closed since 2020 for legal reasons.

Water mills of Mlinčići near Jajce in Bosnia and Herzegovina🇧🇦
The old water mills on Lake Plivsko are a fairytale place. The wooden huts, connected by small footbridges, date back to the time of Austro-Hungarian rule and were built directly on a stream of small rivers. They were owned by landowners, and were given for use to the local population, who paid landowners a tax on flour.
Data from 1562 say that there were 24 mills at that time, of which only six were not in function. In the 17th century, the number of little mills increased to 26. Today, the mills are no longer in operation.
In 2009, the mills was declared a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. In May 2011, unknown perpetrators set fire to four grinders, which burned to the ground. Two years later, the burning mills were rebuilt as part of the 14th Regional Restoration Camp.

Silesian Gorals 🇵🇱🇨🇿
The Silesian Gorals are a West Slavic ethnic group living on the Polish-Czech border and a subgroup of the Gorals. They speak Cieszyn dialects and Jablunkau dialects of the Polish Silesian dialect, with Czech influences.
The group shares many cultural traits with other Gorals of the Western Carpathians, stemming from a common way of living from shepherding in mountainous pastures, but they are also characterised by various different cultural and spiritual elements like dialect, beliefs, customs, costume, etc.
Wincenty Pol in his survey of Gorals in the middle of the 19th century subdivided Silesian Gorals into four groups:
Breniacy – in Brenna.
Wiślanie – in Wisła.
Jabłonkowianie (Jablunkov Gorals) – in mountain villages around Jabłonków
Morawianie (Moravians) – in the villages of Krásná, Morávka and Pražmo. Their dialect is transitional between the Polish and Czech language.

Colonel Alexandra Kudasheva was a Russian soldier and sportswoman who lived in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. She was famed for her endurance horse riding skills and for commanding one of the first mixed-sex military units.
Born around 1875, she was a daughter of a soldier in the Orenburg Cossack Host, and although details of her childhood are uncorroborated it seems she was raised among Cossack soldiers
In 1910, once her children had left home, Kudasheva decided to ride solo across Eurasia from Harbin, China to St Petersburg in order to demonstrate the physical prowess of a female Cossack. She set out on the 8000 mile journey in May 1910, equipped with only her traditional Cossack uniform and weapons, and what she could carry in her saddlebags. In 1913-4 she undertook a second cross-continental ride from Vladivostok to St Petersburg, for which she rode the Tsar’s personal horse. She published a diary about her experiences as well as writing poetry.

Mila Gojsalić
Born in Kostanje, a village in the Dalmatian hinterland, at the beginning of the 16th century, she was a descendant of the Croatian King Gojslav. She lived in Poljica during the Habsburg-Ottoman wars. In 1530, the Ottoman Ahmed Pasha planned to conquer Poljica. The Ottoman army camped in Podgrac.
According to legend, she and many other local women were captured and raped by Ahmed Pasha. To take revenge, she secretly went to the armoury at dawn. There she set fire to the gunpowder, killing Ahmed Pasha and numerous Ottoman officers and soldiers. She also died in the process.
Seizing the favour of the hour, the people of Poljica rose up and defeated the surprised Ottoman occupying force.

Amazing find in Poland: a Roman sword from around 2,000 years ago🇵🇱⚔️
The first weeks of 2025 brought a fascinating discovery for history and archaeology enthusiasts. Two detectives from the INVENTUM association, Rafal Proszowski and Mariusz Lampa, have made an extraordinary find.
The discovery was made in an area known as Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, although the exact location was not specified to prevent unauthorised excavations.
The find, which was immediately secured by employees of the museum in Częstochowa, is probably a double-edged spatha - a weapon characteristic of Roman cavalry. At the time of discovery, the sword was broken into three pieces, suggesting that it may have been part of a burial ritual.
The researchers suspect that a farewell ceremony may have taken place in an ancient forest near Częstochowa, during which Vandal warriors burnt the body of a fallen comrade, leaving behind symbolic objects.

Another, equally interesting case was given by Jakub Kazimierz Rubinkowski. Describing the Vienna campaign of 1683, he stated that his father Wojciech, who was 95 years old at the time, took part in it. Interestingly, Wojciech Rubinkowski served in Prince Aleksander Sobieski's hussar troop of great merit, which at Vienna became famous, among other things, for its ‘suicidal’ charge (in fact, this was to test the terrain to see if it was suitable for a charge by the mass of Polish cavalry), throwing itself in just over a hundred horses against the entire army of the vizier Kara Mustafa. And although the unit suffered unusually heavy losses in the battle, although Wojciech Rubinkowski himself was wounded twice, he survived and returned home. And when we add the fact that this Wojciech Rubinkowski sired a son, Jakub Kazimierz, at the age of 80, the admiration for the vital forces of this hussar reaches the zenith.

Bigos is a stew of steamed sauerkraut with various types of meat and sausage, shredded fresh cabbage as well as other varying ingredients. It is served hot and can be enriched with additional vegetables and wine. Depending on the region and preference, Bigos is served with bread or potatoes. Hardly found today, hot water was added in the past and the dish was eaten as a soup.
Originally from Poland, the dish also became traditional in the areas of the vast Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth.
Bigos is considered a Polish national dish, which, according to American food historian William Woys Weaver, "has been romanticized in poetry, discussed in its most minute details in all sorts of literary contexts, and never made in small quantities."
