821 years ago. Château Gaillard fell, and Normandy was absorbed into the French kingdom.
King Philip „Augustus‟ of France overran Normandy, bringing to an end the "Anglo-Norman‟ realm founded by William the Conqueror in 1066. This proved one of the turning points in European history, establishing the Capetian monarchy as the dominant power in Western Europe.

Duntrune Castle, located on the north side of Loch Crinan in Argyll, Scotland, is believed to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited castles in Scotland, with origins dating back to the 12th century.
The castle has historically been associated with Clan MacDougall and later came under the control of the powerful Clan Campbell, who retained ownership for centuries.
It gained a reputation for its role in Scotland’s turbulent clan conflicts, including a famous legend involving a MacDonald piper, who, while held captive, warned his clan of an ambush by playing a haunting tune.
Over the centuries, the castle underwent several phases of restoration, with the Campbells transforming it from a defensive structure into a family residence.
Today, Duntrune Castle remains privately owned, continuing to attract interest for its rich history, scenic location, and the persistent legends of ghostly hauntings tied to its past.

Built in the 1150s, this manor house can be found at Hemingford Grey in Cambridgeshire. It is also one of the oldest continuously inhabited houses in Britain, and much of the original house remains intact despite various changes over the last 900 years.

A 'bog oak' chest in St Oswald's Church, thought to be older than the church itself. This chest was used for centuries to keep important parish documents safe, as well as acting as a store for vestments and the church plate. It probably dates to the 13th century and was made from a single oak log, 6 feet long and 2 feet wide.
It has multiple locks so that several people had to cooperate in its opening and closing.
