⚡️Romania has announced the suppression of an "attempted coup" led by a 101-year-old general, Digi24 reports.
The prosecutor's office says it has detained six suspects - members of a paramilitary group that aimed to seize power and dissolve parties.
The detainees were reported to have contacted "agents of a foreign power" and traveled to Russia several times. The Russian military attaché in Bucharest and his deputy, who Romania had previously declared undesirable persons, are accused of planning the coup.
"The two Russian diplomats carried out intelligence gathering activities in areas of strategic interest and took actions in support of the group's unconstitutional actions," the statement says.
According to their sources, the organization in question is the "Vlad Tepes Team." One of its leaders is said to be the 101-year-old retired general. This organization publicly called for Romania to leave NATO, and to resume economic and cultural relations with Russia, China and Iran.
