🇺🇸🇨🇴 Colombian President Gustavo Petro claims Trump administration revoked his US visa

Colombian President Gustavo Petro revealed Tuesday that he believes the Trump administration has revoked his travel visa to the US.

Petro, who earlier this year caved to pressure from President Trump to accept deported migrants, made the claim during a Cabinet meeting in Bogota, as he explained why he couldn’t participate in spring meetings hosted by the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Washington, DC.

“I can no longer go because I believe they took away my visa,” Petro said.

🇺🇸 US Army suspends Fort McCoy Commander amid display controversy

The US Army has suspended Colonel Sheyla Baez Ramirez as garrison commander of Fort McCoy in Wisconsin following an incident where photos of the chain of command, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, were missing from the base's display.

The Army Reserve Command clarified that Ramirez's suspension is part of an ongoing review and not due to misconduct. The missing photos were later replaced.

This incident occurs amidst broader leadership changes in the military, including the firing of Colonel Susannah Meyers from Pituffik Space Force Base and the dismissal of four former aides by Defense Secretary Hegseth. These events highlight the military's emphasis on adherence to protocol and alignment with administration directives.

A federal judge on Thursday imposed new restrictions on billionaire Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, limiting its access to Social Security systems that hold personal data on millions of Americans.

Hollander had previously issued a temporary restraining order.

A Peruvian court on Tuesday sentenced former President Ollanta Humala and his wife, Nadine Heredia, to 15 years in prison for laundering funds received from Brazilian construction giant Odebrecht to finance his 2006 and 2011 campaigns.

The judges of the National Superior Court found that Humala and Heredia received almost $3 million in illegal contributions for these campaigns from Odebrecht and the government of then-Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez (1999-2013).

Humala’s wife requested asylum at the Brazilian embassy in Lima, Peru’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday afternoon.

🇺🇸🇸🇻 Democratic lawmaker argues his party shouldn't look kindly on foreign governments aiding Trump

Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., suggested that Democrats should not look kindly on any foreign government that "facilitated authoritarianism in our country," during a discussion about Kilmar Abrego Garcia and the Trump administration's role in deporting him to an El Salvadoran megaprison.

"We should be talking about cutting off aid to El Salvador right now. The whole idea that Bukele doesn't have any power to return an American prisoner who was sent to him under an agreement where he's getting paid $6 million by America is ridiculous. He's our legal agent in this dubious arrangement they've created," Raskin said before arguing El Salvador President Nayib Bukele and Trump were acting like dictators.

🇺🇸🇾🇪 Defense Secretary Hegseth faces scrutiny over alleged leak of Yemen operation details

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is under fire for allegedly sharing sensitive military information about a U.S. operation against Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi rebels in a private Signal group chat.

This marks the second time Hegseth has been accused of mishandling classified information, with the latest chat reportedly including his wife, brother, and personal lawyer. The controversy has led to the departure of several senior Pentagon officials, who deny any wrongdoing.

While critics like Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer call for Hegseth's removal, supporters argue the situation is politically motivated, undermining U.S. defense efforts amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

🇺🇸 Trump administration seeks explosive expansion of nation’s immigration detention system

This month, ICE invited companies to bid on contracts to operate detention centers at sites around the country for up to $45 billion as the agency begins to scale up from its current budget for about 41,000 beds to 100,000 beds.

The money isn’t yet there, but contracts are already being awarded. The House narrowly approved a broad spending bill that includes $175 billion for immigration enforcement, about 22 times ICE’s annual budget. The agency’s 100-plus detention centers nationwide currently hold about 46,000 people, causing overcrowding in locations including Miami.

🇺🇸NYC mayor and Trump border czar tout charges against 27 people in Tren de Aragua case

President Donald Trump’s border czar joined New York City’s mayor on Tuesday to tout new federal charges against 27 people accused of being Tren de Aragua gang members and associates.

The joint announcement is the latest example of the close ties between Mayor Eric Adams and the Trump administration, which recently dropped federal corruption charges against the Democrat so he could better focus on the Republican president’s immigration priorities. Adams is now running for reelection as an independent.

“The question that we must answer: whose side are you on?” Adams said. “Are you on the side of those who are carrying these illegal guns, wreaking havoc, sex trafficking, harming innocent people regardless of their documentation, or are you on the side of hardworking New Yorkers and Americans? I’m clear on which side I’m on.”

🇺🇸 California sues to stop Trump from imposing sweeping tariffs

California Gov. Gavin Newsom sued the Trump administration on Wednesday, challenging the president’s authority to impose sweeping tariffs that have set off a global trade war.

The lawsuit argues that President Donald Trump’s use of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act to impose tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China or a 10% tariff on all imports is unlawful. The act enables a president to freeze and block transactions in response to foreign threats but doesn’t allow the president to adopt tariffs, the suit says.

The lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, also argues that enacting such tariffs requires approval from Congress.

🇺🇸🇲🇽 Trump Administration Revokes CBP One Permits

The Trump administration has taken a decisive step by revoking two-year residence and work permits issued under the CBP One app, a border management system introduced by the Biden administration in 2023.

These permits allowed over 900,000 migrants to enter the U.S. legally with temporary parole status. However, the Trump administration, committed to strengthening border security, suspended the program on President Trump’s first day in office and has now officially revoked the parole status granted through it.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has sent notifications to permit holders, urging them to voluntarily depart or face removal and permanent bans on reentry. This move aligns with the administration’s promise to secure borders and enforce immigration laws.

🇨🇦 Carney ahead in polls as Canada enters last week of election campaign

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, ahead in polls in the run-up to an April 28 election, renewed calls on Monday for voters to give him a strong mandate to deal with U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff threat.

The official opposition Conservatives had been 20 points ahead at the turn of the year but now trail the Liberals.
A rolling three-day Nanos poll released on Monday put the Liberals on 43.7% public support with the Conservatives on 36.3%. The left-leaning New Democrats, who compete with the Liberals for the center-left vote, trailed at 10.7%.

If repeated on election day, that would give the Liberals a majority of the 343 seats in the House of Commons.

🇺🇸🔨The US has a single rare earths mine. Chinese export limits are energizing a push for more

MP Materials, which acquired the idle Mountain Pass site in 2017, said Thursday it would stop sending its ore to China for processing because of the export restrictions and 125% tariffs on U.S. imports China imposed. The company said it would continue processing nearly half of what it mines on site and store the rest while it works to expand its processing capability.

The California mine yields neodymium and praseodymium, the light rare earths that are the main components of the permanent rare earth magnets in EVs and wind turbines. But small amounts of some of the heavy rare earths that China has restricted, such as terbium and dysprosium are key to helping the magnets withstand high temperatures.

Already, the price of terbium has jumped 24% since the end of March to reach $933 per kilogram.

🇺🇸🇲🇽 US transfers land on Mexican border to the Army to prevent illegal crossings

The Trump administration announced an emergency transfer of nearly 110,000 acres of federal land along the U.S.-Mexico border to the Army to help prevent illegal immigration, the Interior Department said on Tuesday.

The land, which crosses Hidalgo, Luna and Dona Ana counties in New Mexico, will be transferred to the Department of the Army for three years, the agency said, allowing for patrols by federal personnel and construction of infrastructure to prevent illegal crossings.

This is not the first time Trump has made such a move. In 2019, during his first term as president, the Interior Department made a similar transfer of 560 acres along the southern border to the Army to build a wall.

It accompanied an executive order signed by President Donald Trump that launched an investigation into the "national security risks posed by U.S. reliance on imported processed critical minerals and their derivative products."
