“Incendiary device” found in arson at northern Colorado Tesla store, police say

Loveland police found an incendiary device that someone used to start a fire at a Tesla dealership early Friday morning, the fifth case of arson and vandalism reported at the northern Colorado store this year.

Officers responded to the store at 1606 N. Lincoln Ave. early Friday morning and found a fire started by a device between two vehicles near the building, putting “several occupants” at risk, the Loveland Police Department said in a news release.

It also appeared someone damaged the building and several vehicles by throwing rocks, police officials said.

Investigators do not believe Friday’s arson is connected to a suspect in a previous case, Lucy Grace Nelson, 40, who is accused of throwing Molotov cocktails and spray-painting “Nazi cars” on the building.

Introduced bill would give Coloradans more time to pay property taxes, local leaders urge against

COLORADO — Newly introduced state legislation aims to give Coloradans more time to pay property taxes.

The house bill would create a four-installment payment option for residents to pay property tax bills. Current Colorado law gives taxpayers the option to pay the taxes in full on or before April 30 or in two equal installments due in February and June. The legislation is meant to help residents who do not pay property taxes out of an escrow account by a mortgage company.

The property tax payment schedule bill would require taxpayers to send in the four payments before set deadlines on the last day of February, April 30, July 15, and Sept. 15.

Details on first wave of federal lease terminations in Colorado now public

The Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE isn’t only interested in shrinking the federal payroll but is also moving quickly to terminate federal leases and dispose of government properties considered non-essential. Colorado isn’t being spared, and the plans for unwanted office space can offer insights into what might be coming next for head counts.

The federal government has tried to shrink its real estate holdings since the “Reduce the Footprint” initiative launched in 2015 during the Obama years. Under the Trump administration, that push has gone into overdrive and is playing out in ways that are hard for outside observers to decipher, said Brian Redmon, executive vice president with Arco Real Estate Solutions in Golden.

“The numbers are staggering,” said Redmon, a former GSA employee who now advises building owners on federal leases. “There absolutely is concern. What are the long-term plans here and what agencies are being targeted?”

Election Transparency bill KILLED this week in the State House!

HB25-1193: Vote Transparency Protocol Act would have required "ballots to be assigned vote tracking numbers and voters to be assigned voter identifier numbers."

It's not surprising the the Ruling Party of Colorado does not want change the election system... even if it means more transparency and trust!

Should a Healthcare provider be able to exercise their conscience?

Rep. Stephanie Luck's bill HB25-1255 to create the "Medical Ethics Defense Act" would have "allowed health care providers to refuse to perform or pay for medical procedures based on their right of conscience."

Trusting medical professionals to make decisions based on ethical considerations should 100% be the standard!

This bill was killed in a 7-4 vote on Tuesday of this last week at the State House.

Democrat sponsors kill own bill extending closing time for bars

DENVER — A bill that would have pushed back the closing time for bars and nightclubs from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. was killed off on Thursday after the bill’s sponsors withdrew it in committee.

House Bill 25-1237 “Soft Closing of Alcohol Beverage Establishments” was postponed indefinitely by the House Business Affairs and Labor Committee, after its sponsors, Rep. William Lindstedt, D-Adams County and Rep. Javier Mabrey, D-Denver told the committee they could not get stakeholders to cooperate or agree on the bill “despite a lot of merits.”

The Colorado legislature’s glossary of terms defines a motion to postpone indefinitely as having the “same effect as moving to kill a bill.”

Lindstedt said the bill came out of the Department of Revenue’s Liquor Advisory Committee. It was part of a larger package of recommendations, he said, but was pulled from a bill last year, and brought back this session “thinking we could take on just this little piece of it.”

Current law prohibits the sale of alcohol at retail establishments between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. The 2 a.m. timing is legally a hard stop, although, most bars already self-impose a last call of 1:30 a.m. to give them that 1/2 hour to clear the establishment and comply with the law.

Calling the current 2 a.m. law a mad rush and “dangerous,” Lindstedt said giving people another hour to drink would solve that problem.

“We’ve seen a lot of shootings, stabbings, sexual assaults, a lot of drunk driving all at one time,” he said. “It’s hard to enforce; it’s not great for neighborhoods and communities.”

The new law would have allowed the actual sale of alcohol until 2:30 a.m., but consumers would have until 3 a.m. to leave, the idea behind a “soft close.” Linstedt the 30-minute extension of sales a “conservative change.”

Effort to Double Marijuana Sales Limit Survives, Without Dispensary Samples

A bill proposing that Colorado double its recreational marijuana sales limit has passed its first hurdle, but not without a few changes to the language.

Colorado's marijuana possession limit for adults 21 and over has been two ounces for almost four years now, but the state's daily limit for recreational purchases is one ounce of flower, or eight grams of concentrate, or edibles with no more than 800 milligrams of THC. House Bill 25-1209 attempts to align the sales and possession limits and also streamline or loosen several other business rules, including record-keeping, research and development, worker registration and video surveillance.

The bill was approved 9-4 by the state House Finance Committee on March 4, and will go in front of the full House next. However, part of the bill that would have allowed free promotional marijuana items — an exciting prospect for dispensary shoppers — was removed during the amendment process because some lawmakers, including committee members, were concerned about free samples at stores.

District judge denies Denver schools' temporary restraining order request to keep ICE out of schools

U.S. District Court Judge Daniel Domenico on Friday denied a Denver Public Schools motion for a temporary restraining and injunction order to prevent federal agents from arresting immigrants at or near campuses.

Typically reluctant to issue a ruling from the bench and preferring to give a more thorough explanation of his thinking, Domenico said the extraordinary remedy the district sought “was not appropriate.”

Domenico said he does not believe that Denver Public Schools met the high burden to favor the district's demands.

The Blooming Health Farms Egg-To-Table Program aims to be just that.

“It’s a 16-week program that’s going to teach the youth everything from hatching chickens to how to take care of them to selling their eggs,” Short said.

Blooming Health Farms began in April 2019 as an aquaponics farm focused on bringing sustainable agriculture to the community while providing counseling and job skills training to at-risk youth.

Thompson School Board member criticized for anti-transgender shirt

Tensions flared at a study session of the Thompson School Board on Wednesday night over a shirt worn by board member Nancy Rumfelt at the last public school board meeting on Feb. 19 produced by XX-XY Athletics, a sportswear brand that has taken a public stance against transgender athletes competing in women’s sports.

The shirt, which read “Real Women Rock,” caused a public outcry over its perceived discrimination against transgender people, and prompted a discussion of the board’s ethics policy during Wednesday’s board study session.

This week, House Democrats narrowly defeated HB25-1190, The Tamale Act, which would have allowed small businesses, entrepreneurs, and local cooks the ability to legally sell their food products.

Rep. Ryan Gonzalez's pro-liberty bill would have expanded Colorado's Cottage Food Laws, which are out-of-date.

Colorado Rep Exposed for Citing Racist Gun Control Laws to Justify Anti-Gun Vote

One of the more ironic facets of modern gun control advocacy is how the majority of gun control boosters fancy themselves as liberals and progressives. However, most proponents of gun control of the political Left have a historical blind spot when it comes to gun control’s checkered history with respect to race. Namely, how gun control has been historically used to infringe on the rights of the very minorities liberals and their leftist bedfellows claim to champion.

This blind spot on gun control’s racist history was exposed when Colorado Rep. Javier Mabrey (D) tried justifying his vote against HB25-1164, Colorado’s Constitutional Carry bill. On Feb. 24, 2025, Mabrey issued a closing statement where he alluded to 19th-century gun control laws to justify his vote against the Constitutional Carry bill.

Small Business Administration moving regional headquarters out of Denver over immigration policies

The U.S. Small Business Administration confirmed Thursday that it would pull regional offices from Denver and five other large “sanctuary cities” over their unwillingness to cooperate with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Over the coming months, the Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, New York City, and Seattle regional offices will be moved to less costly, more accessible locations that better serve the small business community and comply with federal immigration law,” the SBA said in a release.

The announcement comes a day after Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, along with Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, and New York City Mayor Eric Adams testified for six hours before Congress about their respective stances on cooperating with federal deportation efforts.

Federal funding freeze stalls energy-related projects across Colorado

As billions of dollars in federal money for energy projects nationwide remain frozen, projects by Colorado businesses, communities and utilities remain on hold and people waiting for loans and grants to pay for finished work are still waiting.

The Colorado Energy Office was awarded more than $500 million in grants under legislation approved during the Biden administration. Colorado farmers, ranchers and businesses were awarded funds geared specifically to rural areas.

Some funds blocked by the Trump administration have been released, but court battles over the widescale stoppage are ongoing. And the fate of the money is uncertain as the administration continues to cut federal spending and roll back Biden-era policies that promoted renewable energy and addressed climate change.

Trump’s tariffs hit one of Colorado’s most valuable resources – craft beer

Like everything else, beer has gotten more expensive in the past several years. So has the cost to produce it. Now Colorado’s craft brewers, businesses on which Colorado created a culture and a reputation, are girding for even higher costs. As President Donald Trump lobs tariffs at the United States’ largest trading partners, prices are poised to go up on everything from aluminum cans to grain.

Those higher costs are likely to be passed on to Colorado’s beer drinkers. That could be a further drag on an industry already struggling with declining sales.

“At some point, it just gets too expensive,” said Dave Thibodeau, president and co-founder of Durango-based Ska Brewery. “And I think we're up against that threshold or we will be with these tariffs.”
