The first of the eighteen apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the humble Bernadette took place at Lourdes on February 11, 1858. On March 25, when Bernadette asked the Beautiful Lady her name, she replied: “I am the Immaculate Conception.” The devotion of people in all parts of the world to Our Lady of Lourdes, together with the countless miracles that have been wrought through her intercession, has caused one if the most marvelous spiritual regenerations in the history of the Church.

Matt. 8, 23-27. At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to the crowds: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men were asleep, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. And when the blade sprang up and brought forth fruit, then the weeds appeared as well. And the servants of the householder came and said to him, ‘Sir, did thou not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have weeds?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ And the servants said to him, ‘Wilt thou have us go and gather them up?’ ‘No,’ he said, ‘lest in gathering the weeds you root up the wheat along with them. Let both grow together until the harvest; and at harvest time I will say to the reapers: Gather up the weeds first, and bind them in bundles to burn; but gather the wheat into my barn.’” S. Praise be to Thee, O Christ.

February 9th ~ FIFTH SUNDAY after the EPIPHANY
God is the creator of the world, and what He has made is good. How then do we account for the evil in the world? Because man has free will, he can misuse God’s gifts and transgress His Commandments and do evil. He can become an enemy of his greatest Benefactor. It would be foolish to delay our conversion until God will separate the weeds from the wheat.

SECOND SUNDAY after the EPIPHANY
John 2, 1-11. At that time, a marriage took place at Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Now Jesus too was invited to the marriage, and also His disciples. And the wine having run short, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “What wouldst thou have me do, woman? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the attendants, “Do whatever He tells you.” Now six stone water-jars were placed there, after the Jewish manner of purification, each holding two or three measures. Jesus said to them, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them to the brim. And Jesus said to them, “Draw out now, and take to the chief steward.” And they took it to him. Now when the chief steward had tasted the water after it had become wine, not knowing whence it was (though the attendants who had drawn the water knew), the chief steward called the bridegroom, and said to him, “Every man at first sets forth the good wine, and when they have drunk freely, then that which is poorer. But thou hast kept the good wine until now.” This first of His signs Jesus worked at Cana of Galilee; and He manifested His glory, and His disciples believed in Him. S. Praise be to Thee, O Christ.
